Death Cab For Cutie Take Over Stereogum

thubmnail icon: Death Cab For Cutie Take Over Stereogum

Today we're doing something we've never done before. It's gonna be a lot of fun and/or a total disaster. We're handing over the blog to Death Cab For Cutie. All day Ben, Chris, Nick, and Jason will be trolling YouTube, refreshing The Hype Machine, and surveying all the news crossing Stereogum's RSS. This is very exciting for us because it means we have the day off. Also everyone at Stereogum is a longtime fan of Death Cab For Cutie. We don't give free t-shirts to just anyone.

The band's new album Narrow Stairs, which you guys have been enjoying, is the #1 album in the country right now. A song from it was even featured on Gossip Girl last night. And yet they agreed to spend the day blogging for Stereogum. We hope you'll make them feel welcome by sending tips to dcfc@stereogum.com or shouting words of encouragement and burning questions in the comments.

Before we get this started, we've got a premiere video and MP3 of Stairs standout "Long Division," recorded at DCFC's Seattle studio during the band's final pre-tour rehearsal.

You can embed the video on your blog with the following code:

<object height="276" width="448"><param name="movie" value="http://stereogum.com/v/dcfc.php"><param name="wmode" value="transparent"><embed src="http://stereogum.com/v/dcfc.php" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" height="276" width="448">

And here's the tune for your portable music device.

Death Cab For Cutie - "Long Division" (Seattle Session) (MP3)

Now we're off to see Iron Man or something. Don't forget to tip your guestbloggers. And in case they don't mention it, you can catch Death Cab on tour now.

wow. this announcement has been up for almost an hour, without a single anonymous comment thread hater in sight. i have to say that's impressive. also, the clifford doll hanging in the background is pretty rad.

This sucks. Good idea, but I can't help wondering if this has anything to do with Stereogum recently being purchased by Buzznet and maybe some industry backscratching is going on. I hope not, because I love Stereogum for its theoretically uncompromised music coverage. Not to mention DCFC is pretty annoying and if i wanted to read what they have to say, I'd go to their website or blog or whatever.

This doesn't have anything to do with Buzznet. No money is being exchanged around this. It's just supposed to be fun.

Hey Ben, Chris, Nick, and Jason! Love the new album, adore the old albums, and I'll be seeing you in Santa Barbara in a few weeks. Tell me, is Narrow Stairs going to be pressed on vinyl like your other albums?

I`ve only been a fan since around Plans, and a few years before that I tabled an SF show for Berkeley KALX-FM....and at the time, I didn`t get it. Nor of the legions who came into my part-time job who were buying We Have The Facts and The Photo Album.

Fast forward to now, new release rack at HMV in Shibuya--I bought it! It looks like OK Computer, but "Cath..." tells me you fucking lot still got it!!! Play your own shows in Japan, please!!! I hate festivals and they always overcharge.

Anyways, four years ago, I was on tour with The Subhumans/Enemies and with The Postal Service we had virtually the same itinerary, so I think the first time I met Jenny on tour in Austin, to the same venue in Orlando (The Social) for the early/late shows...for the different crowds they both had, it made perfect sense for me. And even before that when I got the advance for the album it was already a lock...I think that album was the bridge to Tarabithia that brought me to Death Cab!!!

Cheers

I guess this is answers the question "Why no 'Narrow Stairs' Premature Evaluation?" Didn't want to bust up the relationship by high-profiling the album leak.

I love what you guys do. new album is incredible. Idea: Death cab meets Slowreader, find the two of them, get the band back together and start a creative project. Not much could possibly be better.
Rock on guys...

Death Cab For Cutie will always be my favorite band of all time. I cant even go into explaining how much you guys rock. Your music has helped me overcome so many obstacles in my life. I am so grateful. Theres have been times that I wanted to give up, times when i thought life was not worth living bu then I would listen to one of your songs and keep moving. Determined to never give up. You guys started out little and stayed little for a while, but you didn't give up. You slowly worked your way up, to become the most awesomest band of all time. That gives me inspiration to keep moving. I only asked for one thing for my birthday, tickets to your concert. I am so excited and can't wait.
