Death Cab Reveal New Moon Soundtrack Single

thubmnail icon: Death Cab Reveal New Moon Soundtrack Single

Twilight 2: The Edge Of Reason is coming (omg), and just in time too because there are no vampire stories in pop culture these days. We're still skeptical about the Radiohead and Bon Iver tunes rumored for the soundtrack, but at least we know Death Cab For Cutie penned its first single. (At least! God forbid we knew nothing.) The tune, the first the band has ever written expressly for a movie sequel about teen vampires, is called "Meet Me On The Equinox" and will premiere on MTV.com during the VMAs on 9/13. We've already established that Nick Harmer is a big Comic-Con nerd so naturally he was tasked with providing the statement to Stephanie Meyer about why Twilight and DCFC go together like True Blood and terrible Southern accents.

Via stephaniemeyer.com (i.e., your homepage):

"We are very excited to be a part of this amazing series of novels set in our own backyard. It just seemed a perfect synergy that a band from the Northwest would create a song for a series of novels set in the Northwest. We wrote 'Meet Me On the Equinox' to reflect the celestial themes and motifs that run throughout the Twilight series and we wanted to capture that desperate feeling of endings and beginnings that so strongly affect the main characters. This song marks the first attempt that Death Cab for Cutie has ever made at contributing new, unreleased material for a film and we are proud to be a part of the Twilight legacy."

You can watch a totally rad New Moon trailer right here. And that's fresh.

UPDATE: Chris Walla hasn't even started the third book yet!...

i can't say they were ever cool enough to sell out but this is disappointing, even more disappointing than Iron and Wine in the last one. Death Cab is about to get a whole new set of fans and my goodness they will be annoying.

Death Cab already has a bunch of tweens listening to them. This is common knowledge. Walk into any high school, and every 15 year old kid is walking around with a DCFC shirt. They "sold out" years ago when The O.C. began namechecking them and when sorority girls began putting The Postal Service on their ipod mix after watching Grey's Anatomy. Welcome to 2009.

New Moon's music supervisor is none other than Alex Patsavas - he was also music supervisor on “The O.C.,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Gossip Girls” and “Chuck” ) it should come as no surprise that he's using the same indie bag-o-tricks on this new project.

GOD Twilight is sooooo lame! I'm highly disappointed with Death Cab, but will be even more disappointed with Radiohead and Bon Iver if they take part too.....
