Deerhunting Season

Just when we thought it was safe to stop reading Bradford Cox's blog, he reminds us why it's quickly becoming one of the most engrossing stops on the Internet. First came the Poop Journal (maybe more "gross" than engrossing), then the Five Imaginary Boyfriends … and now you can add tales of muggings at gunpoint in ATL to the lurid list. Cox writes (via BV):

We got a friendly homecoming suprise last night in Atlanta when Lockett and I got robbed at gunpoint after our show at Lenny's last night. We literally had just walked off the stage and I was pretty wasted. Lockett was trying to take care of me and get me home. He grabbed my guitar and my stuff and we walked to his car which was parked about a block away from Lenny's because it was so crowded. I heard a commotion behind us but like I said I was pretty out of it. I just opened the door to the car and collapsed in the passenger seat. Then I heard all this yelling and I hear this loud metallic banging on the window and look up and there is a gun in my face and a guy yelling "get the fuck out the car man" I stumbled out and see the other guy has Lockett with his arms spread on the roof of his car and is patting him down.

Lockett was begging them to leave me alone. The guy put his gun up to my temple and said "give me EVERYTHING motherfucker I aint fucking with you" I just mumbled something and he put his hands in my pants and took everything I had. My cellphone, my wallet (empty except for credit / bank cards which kristin immidietly cancelled, and about 450 dollars in cash I had for my rent.) They also got all of Lockett's money. They even took my fucking Camel Ultralights and Orange Bic. All I can say is that I'm glad we are not dead. Or more specifically, I am REALLY glad they didn't hurt Lockett. He was just trying to help me get home and would not have even been there at that time otherwise.
That's a hard luck tale, but it also may be the most thorough thievery we've ever heard of (couldn't leave the Orange Bic alone, the fiends!). Anyway, thankfully Cox and Pundt are okay. In way less frightening news, Cox has posted new Atlas Sound MP3s -- the woozily gorgeous "White Tea" and oscillating fun house "Stoned"...

Atlas Sound - "White Tea" (MP3)
Atlas Sound - "Stoned" (MP3)

...along with all sorts of visual ephemera (photos, flyers…). Worth bookmarking the site -- it's like a Found magazine/"dear diary"/True Crime anthology, edited by Deerhunter.

That's terrifying. And I'd just seen the car-jacking episode of "Six Feet Under." I'm never going outside again.

That isn't gold, it's juvenile and moronic.. Is it supposed to be funny in some way?

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...

Premature Evaluation: of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping

Skeletal Lamping is anything but skeletal. When we took a close listen to album closer "Id Engager" we mentioned it wasn't the strangest, most ambitious, or best tune on of Montreal's new one, but after absorbing the other 14 tracks,...

Horse Feathers - "Father"

Portland songwriter Justin Ringle's evocative vocal twang and sharp lyricism are at the center of Horse Feathers' bedroom Americana. The band's second album House With No Home, which follows 2006's Words Are Dead, finds Ringle's vision fleshed out by multi-instrumentalist/composer...
