Dept. Of Unnecessary Covers

Frickin' A - "Jessie's Girl" QT | WMV

At least they have a cool band name. Oh wait, no they don't.

Yes that's Rick Springfield in the beginning.

ATTENTION HIPSTERS:

This is what happens when you and your band try and be too "ironic" and "clever" by covering some dopey but loveable eighties top 40 pop song complete with your own smug, indie prenentions. This comes off as a converse wearing train wreck.

okay, so explain to me how starship's 'built this city' was dubbed worst song of all time and 'jessie's girl' didn't even get a mention. i'd rather have the former in my head for the next twenty years than the latter in my head for the next twenty minutes.

Wow! That was awesome. And that lead singer was so cool, especially with that hair and kick-ass guitar riffs.

Sweet baby Jesus...well, that just sucked. Seriously, I couldn't even finish watching it all.

one question-why would you want jesse's girl when that other chick you're talking to is smoking hot?

from their site -

What made them choose to cover Rick Springfield’s “Jessie’s Girl”, their second single off the disc? "The first time I ever got lucky, “Jessie's Girl” was playing”, says singer Jason Phelps. “I had borrowed my older brother’s car and a cassette of WORKING CLASS DOG was jammed in the cassette deck. Ever since that night I've always loved the song – even if I was finished before the first chorus! I'm hoping that luck comes back around...with our version of the song.”

Three highlights of lead singer, Jason Phelp's, life so far:

1) Getting laid to Jesse's Girl.
"Frickin' A, Dave! That was awesome!!"

2) Getting the highlights in his hair.
"Ahhh..Frickin A! Julio, my hair looks awesome!!"

3) Thinking up the band name.
"Jason, dude!! Look at your hair. Frickin' A that's awesome!!!"

"Dude, no way...we should name the band 'Frickin' A!!'"

"'Frickin' A', Jason...that's awesome!!!"

"Frickin A it is, dude!!!"

It's videos like this that make me wish "Beavis & Butthead" were still on the air.

It's lame, it's stupid, it's a complete waste of time and money, and it will probably make the band a pile of cash.

P.S. what is with the skanky 80's look? The girl playing Jessie's girl looks like a cross between "Like a Virgin" Madonna and "Sixteen Candles" Joan Cusack.

2 things:

1. Did anyone else notice Jessie looks like P. North?
2. There's a local band here in Anchorage that covers that song (and has for some time) 100 times better. Go Ettinger! (http://www.ettingerband.com/)

To be fair, a lot of perfectly decent folks thought they were hippies in college. (I am not, however, including this guy in the pool of "perfectly decent folks.")

Maybe its the low resolution but Jason Phelps either looks like Garth Brooks dropped 60 lbs and decided to play that dumbass "rock star" again or one of the Wayans brothers is gearing up for the "White Chicks" sequel - "White Dude."

And ol' man Springfield sanctioned this ear dung?

Come on people stop taking yourselves so seriously! I know that otherwise that band is probably crap but that was, like, totally awesome! Did anyone else catch the "Workin' Class Dog" in the back of Springfield's car at the end? Genius! I smiled through the whole video. "Jessie's Girl" was the best "bad eighties song".
