Dirty Pretty Things In New York

Punk Photo tells us that despite Carl Barat's broken collarbone (saki + motorbike = ouch) last night's Dirty Pretty Things show at Bowery was epic. And that we'd better hope "there is a snowflake’s chance in guestlist hell" to catch night two. ("If you’re really special he might even strap on the guitar for an encore. It’s one of those surreal shows where you feel like you’re witnessing history in the making.") Damn, should've gotten tickets. Maybe we should go to Leeds! Oh well, can't see 'em all. Awesome photos Abbey!

If any Stereogum readers went/are going, we wanna hear about it. Stream some DPT here.

I've been looking forward to this show since the band got together. Can't wait for tonight.

Played 2 Libertines songs, to much excitement; "Death on the Stairs" and "I Get Along." Crowd responded nicely, great responses for "Bang Bang You're Dead" and "Deadwood," naturally. Show was greatness.

I saw the Chicago show on Friday--it was incredible. There was amazing energy from the band and the crowd. They played three Libertines songs, the third being "France". It was definitely one of the best shows I've been to this year.

Amazing? In Chicago? We were at the same show?

I'm sorry, but I thought the performance was lackluster and they've done much better at older performances with the previous band. I couldn't even muster the stregth to stay the entire show. It just all of a sudden hit me how derivitive it was, and I found myself lumping in a catagory with Wolfmother, Jet, Interpol, She Wants Revenge, etc. If you're going to be derivitive, do it well (see: The Walkmen).

Now, good shows this year: Andrew Bird @ Logan Square, Tapes n' Tapes at Sub T, BSS at Lollapalooza, I could continue here if you'd like. . .

"Amazing? In Chicago? We were at the same show?"

Apparently not since you left after 1.5 songs. Is it really fair to judge a show that you only saw 1/10th of?
I was actually commenting on the amazingness of the show, not necessarily the music. DPT may not be the most original band around, but they put on a damn good show.
