DJ AM Daft Punks HARD Fest
Adam Michael Goldstein, aka Los Angeles-based DJ AM, aka the guy who survived that recent plane crash with Travis Barker, made his Halloween costume count this year: Rumors were spreading online that Daft Punk were the "special guests" on Halloween night's dance-packed HARD fest, which took place at the HARD mansion in L.A. Confirmed performers included Justice, Simian Mobile Disco, Crystal Castles, Soulwax, etc. Instead of Daft Punk proper, at 2:55 AM they got this:

Based on blog glancing, some people are a bit pissed, while others can't face the truth: "I just got there and i thought it was daft punk. a part of me still wants to believe that i saw them..." It's hard to be the bearer of bad news, but Daft Punk generally doesn't travel solo or with a DJ AM-emblazoned laptop. Also, as Beatcrave notes:
With a light show and hand signals of pyramids all over the place topped off with music by Daft Punk, many were convinced that this man was giving them the best Halloween of their lives. When AM removed the helmet, dancers (many of which were obviously disappointed) continued to dance without missing a beat.
Unless Thomas Bangalter was wearing a DJ AM mask underneath his helmet.

We secretly switched their coffee with Folgers crystals...
People were upset?
It would be like going to see Blue Man Group and getting upset that it wasn't the original guys. Never mind, that is a terrible analogy...It was Halloween, and it didn't say Daft Punk was on the bill anywhere right?
If I went to a show and a band on the bill was dressed as KISS for Halloween, I wouldn't get all pissy that it wasn't KISS onstage.

Yeah but most people can spot the difference between Gene Simmons in full KISS regalia and some dude dressed up as him. Daft Punk robot costume not so much. People probably felt tricked, and maybe a little insulted. And i think that's reasonable.
I mean it's totally funny, but it's also kind of a dick move?
but whatever, anyone that got to see such an amazing lineup shouldn't complain all too much. These bands don't come to most of our towns, let alone all at once.
(me = jealous)

They got Punked by DJ AM and had to put up with a Crystal Castles set?
Ugh, yeah that's pretty bad.

There was a lot of this nonsense going on in LA over the weekend. The night before, at the Heist, DJs Eric Neutron and Hyphycrunk dressed as Daft Punk and also performed with a makeshift pyramid light show, which fueled rumors of a HARD appearance.
Daft Punk have emphatically stated in interviews that they would never send anybody else out in their costumes because it's offensive and they would never want to not hear the cheers of their own fans.
I was at HARD but missed DJ AM -- thank god. This would have ruined the night for me.
Simian Mobile Disco, Soulwax and Boyz Noise were excellent.

I would of just been happy to be there. I had passes but had to dj a set another place in Los Angeles. Cool Pic

HA HA!! Get over it, CRY BABIES!! This was the greatest part of my weekend, DJ AM F*CKIN ROCKED IT!! I don't see how anyone could have been upset. "Aka the guy who survived that recent plane crash with Travis Barker", Are you kidding me? Give the man some credit!! I give it up to AM for having the strength to get back to work so soon. It was an honor to witness the smile on his face as the crowd moved to the music.

Wait, didn't AM's face get melted off? No?

One robot does not a daft punk make.

You know, the part that really made it frustrating for me was that he was spinning fucking Daft Punk when my friends and I walked in (after waiting in that ridiculous freaking line outside for more than an hour) and even though we could only see the one guy in the suit, we also couldn't see the whole DJ platform so we figured the second guy was where we couldn't see him. Once we got into the crowd a bit more we started questioning if it was really Daft Punk, just in time for him to flip us off and take off the helmet while berating us with a neverending "DJ AM" loop. To top it all off, we fucking missed the end of Simian Mobile Disco because of it.
I will now officially boycott DJ AM for the rest of my life. Fuck that guy.

Thomas Banghalter (one half of Daft Punk) was in attendance at HARD probably to see fellow record label artist Justice and his manager Busy-P perform....Also considering that @ LAX this past Sunday Banghalter, DJ AM, and JFK (MSTRKRFT) all played together I would say that they are all close friends and when asked to borrow the suit, he agreed...It was a great weekend
