Dylan Biopic I'm Not There Soundtrack Features Many Artists You Know

The last half of '07 is a busy one for Bob Dylan's recorded output and historic likeness. There's the DYLAN boxed set (in two editions, with a celebratory Mark Ronson "re-version" of "Most Likely You Go Your Way [And I'll Go Mine]"), and then there's the six-thespians-as-Bob film I'm Not There (starring Christian Bale, Marcus Carl Franklin, Richard Gere, Heath Ledger, Ben Whishaw, and Cate Blanchett as Zimmerman), looking at a November theatrical release and an extensive Dylan-in-covers soundtrack.

Director Todd Haynes spoke with USA Today recently about the 2-disc release, which features Sufjan Stevens, Antony and the Johnsons, Yo La Tengo, The Hold Steady, Eddie Vedder, Jim James & Calexico, Once stars/lovers Glen Hansard & Markta Irglov, Jeff Tweedy, Karen O (backed by the Lee Ranaldo-produced house backup band the Million Dollar Bashers), and more! Bob gave the film (and presumably the soundtrack) his blessing, plus Todd Haynes scored rights to Dylan's obscure "I'm Not There" bootleg for the film and audio release (worry not revisionists, Sonic Youth covers it for good measure). Full tracklist and a flick clip featuring Cate Blanchett and David Cross after the jump.

I'm all for experimental but for some reason I'm worried about this movie.

Stephen Malkmus doing "Ballad of a Thin Man" and "Maggie's Farm". This is going to be fucking incredible.

Antony and the Johnson's rendition of Knockin' On Heaven's Door... ooooh, I'm excited. Great tracklist for the most part.

It's weird how now, since Stereogum is a full-fledged publication, it can come out with newsish tidbits two or three days post-news cycle without feeling the least bit sheepish about it.

I still see great stuff in Stereogum that I want to read, listen to, think about, and pass on, but I have to say that the noise-to-signal ratio is now higher, and I even wonder if there are quotas to keep the number of posts per day up, even if that's to the detriment of the reader.

Yeah, agreed. Stereogum might as well just link to every Forkcast article, since its all the exact same stuff anyway.

On the brighter side, a new Iron and Wine and Calexico track just made me giddy.

Boooooooooooooooring. I'm tired of these bands. Recycled soundtrack garbage. I'd rather hear Times New Viking or somebody I've never heard of doing Most Likely You Go Your Way and I'll Go mine.

Cat Power's version of "Stuck Inside of Mobile" smokes. Listen here:

It's basically Cat Power fronting a Southern E Street Band and doing Dylan - I can't imagine that it really gets any better than that.
