Eraserhead: Thom Yorke Goes Solo

We've been keeping an eye on theeraser.net, which Thom Yorke linked to on his blog Thursday.

And while we did get a heads up about an exciting Radiohead announcement coming today, we thought this post on Green Plastic was a hoax:

We received this message from W.A.S.T.E. tonight. It confirms the rumors that Thom has made an album:

this is just a note to say that something has been kicking around in the background that i have not told you about.
its called The Eraser.
nigel produced & arranged it .
i wrote and played it.
the elements have been kicking round now for a few years and needed to be finished & i have been itching to do something like this for ages.
it was fun and quick to do.
inevitably it is more beats & electronics.
but its songs.
stanley did the cover.
yes its a record!
no its not a radiohead record.

as you know the band are now touring and writing new stuff and getting to a good space so i want no crap about me being a traitor or whatever splitting up blah blah... this was all done with their blessing. and i don't wanna hear that word solo. doesnt sound right. ok then thats that.

i think its out in july and im pretty certain XL are going to put it out.

love thom

NME says it's legit. We'll keep you posted!

UPDATE: July 11th is the release date. Here's the tracklist.

01 the eraser
02 analyse
03 the clock
04 black swan
05 skip divided
06 atoms for peace
07 and it rained all night
08 harrowdown hill
09 cymbal rush

I guess this album is finally going to show who has more sway over the quality of Radiohead's songs: Thom or Jonny. Bodysong vs. The Eraser. Fight!

I know it's Thom Yorke so it should be awesome and everything, but only nine tracks? They better be fuckin' amazing, Thom!! I'm counting on you.

I hate to be a pessimist but it sounds like it will also show how much the quality of the songwriting suffers the more that Thom shuts out Ed.

Regardless I'm very excited.

I hope that this is a chance for Thom to get all the dance music nonsense out of his head so that when the band's album comes out it has a little more of that old type of music in it that they used to play...what's it called? Rocque Und Roll?

come on, that's probably not the best title to use for this post...esp. considering thom's statement!

i rather hear an electronic radiohead than a rock and roll one.

that electronic part of them is the best.

i hope they pull it out .

Electronic Radiohead is God.

Kid 17 is Jesus.

This record will be Moses.

ya i saw this on pitchfork, but thanks for putting it up. i'm really looking forward to this... i'm very curious as to how much of a departure from radiohead's 'sound' this is going to be. fantastic news!

There are still people complaining that Radiohead went "electronic"? Weird. Stop wishing for The Bends II, folks. Ain't gonna happen.

The live version of "Cymbal Rush" that Thom and Johnny played at some show is amazing.

hm, i was kind of hoping that thom's first 'solo' album would be all acoustic. ah well, maybe the next one....

I really cannot wait to see Thom's product. It's going to be fantastic work, I'm sure.
