Evan Dando Rotates The Crops

"Since I was ten, it was all about doing all the drugs in the alphabet," Evan Dando says in the new Spin. "And it worked out fine for me." We won't disagree. Despite a few career bumps (only 43 people bought Baby I'm Bored), Dando's songwriting chops have enabled him to rise above being a pretty face that made "Mrs. Robinson" palatable for Gen X. Reality Bites cameo notwithstanding.

And Evan's newly reunited band's self-titled album is full of hooky, ramshackle guitar pop that sounds like classic Lemonheads. Our only gripe is not enough bittersweet, acoustic ballads a la "It's About Time" and "Hannah And Gabbi." That's why tomorrow we're heading to that new hotbed of live rock insanity, the Soho Apple Store. Dando will be doing a solo acoustic set at 8 PM, and then signing autographs and iBooks. (We're just guessing about the iBooks.)

(If you're not in the NYC-area, but are itching for live Dando, tune into NPR on Friday to stream WXPN's "Free At Noon" concert in Philadelphia.)

The Lemonheads hits stores tomorrow, but you can stream the whole thing now at AOL Music.

As for the drug use, Dando tells Spin he still trips now and then "just to rotate the crops. I don't want to swear off anything -- I just don't do it every day, the way I used to."

Vagrant president Rich Egan adds, "He's off crack. He's totally there."

That article was kind of sad. How many people were saying "I know he's been clean for a while now" just for him to go "I do acid at least once a summer."

I mean, do acid if you want to, but where are people getting the idea that he's "clean"?

best taang! records "signing" ever, ha-ha. i wonder if dando ever hung out with (pioneering boston straight edge band and fellow taang! artist) SSD. that would be funny.

When I lived in Allston (that's in Boston) the drummer from the Lemonheads (or so he claimed, I wouldn't really know) heard us playing music from the street and rang our doorbell. We let him in, he played our drums for a while (he was pretty good.) and then he asked us for some coke and left. It was quite the surreal experience. We didn't have any coke for him though.
