Evening Streaming: Unreleased Goodness From Death Cab, MMJ, Wolf Parade

thumbnail icon: Evening Streaming: Unreleased Goodness From Death Cab, MMJ, Wolf Parade

Did we hear you say you wanted more tablas on the new Death Cab record? Awesome, you will love "Pity and Fear." The track's a bit more succinct than "I Will Possess Your Heart" (surprise!), but along with the eastern instrumentation come some modal and thickly fuzzed guitars, custom tailored for the summer festival season. If you can't wait quite that long, NPR have it for you, along with a full-song stream of the Jim James gone disco cut "Touch Me I'm Going To Scream Pt. 2" from Evil Urges, a snippet from Wolf Parade's forthcoming Kissing The Beehive, and more stuff you've probably already heard here or somewhere (which doesn't mean you shouldn't listen -- we're talking Fleet Foxes, Portishead, Cloud Cult, Shearwater). The listening party happens here.

The Wolf Parade track is AWESOME. The MMJ track (despite me despising them) is great, and the Death Cab track...

sucks:(

How can you despise mmj? Not your thing, I get, but Despise?!

THey have long since been my favorite band, but I worry about this record. Of the songs I've heard (Touch Me Pt. 2 included) they all seem to be missing that special mystery... power aura... something... mmj usually brings in spades. I'm sure I'll hear the whole record and feel like an ass for ever doubting. I trust. I do.

I think you might change your mind about "Touch Me Pt. 2" (and the rest of the new material) once you catch them performing it live. "Touch Me" in particular was such a freakin' party. But then, I suppose that's to be expected - MMJ is bloody incomparable live. (And I also can't understand how anyone could possible despise them.)

I just never really cared for MMJ. They were so hyped up I grew to despise them with every record. Just not my cup of tea. But this new track is interesting, and I like it a lot.

Wow, the death cab song has a tabla playing in the background throughout! Pretty bold!!

By the way, I'm doing a survey on digital music for a class at MIT. I'm giving $5 free credit on Amie Street to anyone who fills it. Check it out at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=K9zfdPbYagqlxxoUqPWZ6Q_3d_3d

no mention of the fact they're streaming an Elbow song as well? I mean I know we've all heard it but still...

The MMJ sounds really good. They threw us a curveball with this one, but they have adopted this new sound with conviction and confidence. I like what i'm hearing and have to give the band props for constantly shedding its skin.

Hopefully a leak isn't too far away, because this just got me so much more excited.

This is in direct response to Meng with respect to this particular article, but also just a general statement to everyone who hopes and prays for album leaks...why? Are you that cheap you'll shaft a band you love and claim to support so that you can pirate their music and save a couple bucks? I don't want to hear any trippy-hippy nonsense either about how record labels overcharge, or that music is communal and should be shared, not purchased.

The fact is, bands like My Morning Jacket, Death Cab, et. al have bills to pay to even make a record - rent for studio space (it ain't free, folks), salaries to producers/techs (again, they don't work for free), equipment rentals (yup, this costs money too), etc., etc. Most bands go into a bit of debt before they turn around and come back into the black off album sales and touring. So my question...

Why not support these artists by BUYING their music?

Granted live touring generates the majority of income for most artists now, especially notorious travelers like MMJ...still, you can count me as one person who's excited for this album to come out on the release date and not a minute prior unless the band pulls a Raconteurs / Gnarls Barkley (and even those bands made the move up to pre-empt inevitable leaks). I'll happily pay the $10 for this album, and it will be money well spent.

Stop stealing music...support artists you gush about on these blogs by buying the music, buying tickets to the show, and helping them stay in the black to keep making amazing records for years to come.

Thats a noble thing to say, KAM, but I don't think you're saying anything that the leak-lovers haven't already heard before. We all know that in the end, some of us will be buying the album in stores (you and me) and some of us...won't.

I'm most certainly going to buy the new MMJ the day it comes out. I want it to leak so that i can hear it...it's completely selfish, but i am really truly excited to hear this record and can't wait to see what they've done this time around.

I own all the LPs the band has done, and i don't plan to stop there.
