Flaming Lips Curating, Playing ATP NY 2009 On first glance ATP NY '09s curators aren't nearly (nearly) as exciting as MBV in '08, but you will get to catch Suicide performing their 1977 first album and the ATP-curated night includes Animal Collective, Black Dice, Panda Bear, Atlas Sound, etc. No word yet on who the Lips select, but we're sure they'll come armed with a huge ball and the same set they've been doing for the last four years. Check out the schedule to date at ATP's site (via BV).

I mean, what do you expect, another year of 90's nostalgia? I'm personally pumped for AC and Black Dice, and i'm sure Steve Drozd will make sure shit's straight with the lips picks. Plus, just TRY and not enjoy yourself at a flaming lips show, no matter how played out they get they will always be one of the most entertaining live acts in showbiz.

goodbye UK shoegaze, hello weird americana.

As a student at nearby Binghamton University who also happens to think this lineup is shaping up to be a-fucking-mazing, may I just say that I'm disappointed that there's no such thing as a one-day pass to the event. Granted, it may have a lot to do with it being held at a private country club, but c'mon. It's pretty damn unfair to lots of folks.
On the other hand, a large gathering of upper-middle class white people from New York City is just what the Catskills need.
