Fleet Foxes' Robin Pecknold Covers Judee Sill In A Black Cab
Our love affair with Fleet Foxes began one Bowery night. As mentioned then, for all the undeniable Jim Jamesing (and occasional Grizzly Bearing) at their core, the band spend as much of their sound in the dustier corners of folk and rock, spaces carved by greats like Fleetwood Mac, the Band, CSN, etc. So as much as you'd love to hear a Sun Giant or Fleet Foxes tune in this latest chapter from the ever-worthy Black Cab Sessions, there's something era-appropriate and snugly fitting about hearing Fleet lead man Robin Pecknold tackle the posthumously adored '70s singer-songwriting icon Judee Sill with "Crayon Angels." Also: the kid can sing.
"You rock," says cabbie man. The gentleman knows his music. I love this band. The great Fleet Foxes LP is out via Sub Pop. You can grab MP3s here and here, and you can find that aforementioned Bowery show on Stereogum's Top Shows of 2008 this December.

based on what i've seen in the time that fleet foxes have been in the limelight, i can truthfully say that they are one of the most talented and memorable bands i've seen in the last few years and will hopefully be remembered for many years to come
Score = 1
It's hard not to hear My Morning Jacket in the pair of Fleet Fox's LPs. That being said, they are the two best records I've heard this year. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for 'Evil Urges'.
Score = -1
this band has really grabbed me -- something about his vocals in this video is jeff mangum-ish.
