yeah, it's legit. i called the company, Gratis Internet, a few days before that Wired article hit (i think Wired is monitoring the Craigslist waves) and they confirmed, in writing, that the deal was legit. i did the ancestry.com deal (which i think they've pulled because it was so easy to cancel, and also did an AOL deal (which was also easy to cancel).

i signed up, finished all my shit back on 8/6, and have been waiting ever since for my iPod to be delivered. the site uses ecost.com to supply their iPod orders, and ecost has been SWAMPED with requests, so the shipments have been going out slow.

Its all about distrbuting more spam to people.
They (Gratis, the company that runs it) gets 50$ for every offer someone completes. So if you get your 5 referrals, plus your own, they earn $300, $50 more than an ipod actually costs. And since most people never actually get all 5, they end up making a ton of money.

In case I sound like a freeipods.com naysayer, it is because someone else in my apartment complex used the freeipods referral link on my site. They counted 2 people within the same building (regardless of apartment #)as an attempt of fraud and blocked my account as well as every person I referred and was referred by. In total to date, that has added up to 47 people they will not fulfill the offer for (people who have completed offers) due to the fact that I live in an apartment. Do not count on customer service responses(there are only 8 employees). With fulfillment rates like that and the fact that there terms state that they can refuse fulfillment for any reason without disclosing the reason, the cards are stacked against you. I have a question about the freeipdos thing.
