From Gilmore Girls' 100th Episode

Flavor of the month gets a shoutout from Alexis Bledel's character, who is ripping CDs for her mom.

RORY: Hey, do you want Arcade Fire?
LORELAI: I don't know, do I?
RORY: Yes.
LORELAI: Then yes.

They are so gonna play The Bait Shop. Speaking of which, tomorrow's O.C. will be the third episode to use music by The Album Leaf. Josh Schwartz must be a huge fan.

THEY ARE SO NOT GOING TO PLAY THE BAIT SHOP. You take that back, or I am going to cry and stomp my foot ineffectively.

Rory also mentioned the Super Furry Animals, who have already been on The O.C.- "Hello, Sunshine" when Summer and Seth first have sex. I'm not a loser or anything I swear...

God I love the Gilmore Girls.
It's ok for guys to like the gilmore girls right?
If not it should be.

Love! the Gilmore Girls. The show was sucking a little bit recently, but the 100th episode was fantastic.

afterthought,

It's definately ok, to love the gilmore girls. Rory's kinda hot, and ridiculously witty - that's reason right there...

i just posted about the name-drop as well, scott.

the bait shop won't happen. "hey seth, who are these odd-looking canadians & what are they doing at this newport beach all ages club? eww! why are they banging on each other like that? eww! and what the hell is regine wearing?"

besides, gilmore girls is ahead of the curve.

i found the plug a little annoying last night. it's cool when lane does it, being the music buff, but rory? she totally listens to vannessa carlton or something.

RORY: Hey mom, do you think that instead of name dropping hipster approved pop-culture acts to make our increasingly insipid television program seem hip, we should instead focus on... I don't know, being LESS insipid?

LORELAI: Hmm... I don't know. But we've got to get home ASAP.

RORY: Why?

LORELAI: BECAUSE DAFT PUNK IS PLAYING AT MY HOUSE! Get it Rory?

RORY: Yeah.

LORELAI: It's a LCD Soundsystem song I just referenced there!

RORY: I get it mom.

I think what she says was 'do you WANT Arcade Fire?', which is key because she is blatantly copying (or ripping to mp3) CDs to her mom's laptop. Probably a first on TV? Esp. using real band names? WB legal must have not had the visual when they cleared the script.

Also, to namecheck 'Brian Eno Remastered' immediately after AF shows they are NOT just chasing after the current buzz...

I know it's just a television show, but can we please stop insinuating that Lorelai and Rory are big eaters? The two of them probably split a Tic Tac. And stop the band/author/film maker name dropping too. Thank you.

so i totally have fallen in love with the greatness of the gilmore girls. shoot me. "rory" also burned "lorelai" brian eno & super furry animals.

and as much as i am a guilty fanatic of the OC, i do not want the arcade fire to play the bait shop. that's like suggesting interpol play the bait shop (and it's bad enough when evil gets three consecutive plays in one episode).

Uh, well, there was a whole thing earlier this season where Rory interviewed people on campus who were downloading and burning music. The entire catalog of Chicago (?) got a shout-out. So it's not even a first for this show, really.

Also, yes, the GG writers do seem to have embarassingly generic indie tastes. Apparently the "disco sucks!" rant from last season was sincere. Eek!

Burning a copy of a CD that you actually own and distributing it non-commercially to people you actually know probably isn't illegal, and arguably falls under fair use. (that said, there's no definitive legal ruling on this issue)

I dunno, it's hard not to respect a show that has mentioned the New Pornographers in a past episode too.
showing mad love for awesome Canadian bands is all good.

What was even better about that episode was that Rory's editor made fun of her for pitching that article and told her that mp3 stories were totally played.

I love Gilmore Girls. Remember when Lane had to hide her Young Marble Giants CD under the floorboards in her room? Sigh.

I wonder if The WB's legal department didn't udnerstand what "Arcade Fire" was. "Oh, it's just more of the Amy Sherman Palladino's crazy writing!"

And last weekend, the Shins played. But they were actually a Korean family.

I sure hope that the album leaf is playing during the much anticipated the o.c. lesbian makeout scene.

actually when rory pitched the mp3 story to her editor he was barely listening and approved whatever her choice was. it was paris, rory's roomate, who questionned if she had found another angle. then rambled on how every mp3 story is the same etc.

and i love the episode where rory is looking for a particular cd of lane but doesn't remember the name so lane treats us to the whole philosophy of categorization she developped in hiding her cds under her floor.

i love gilmore girls too much.
and i agree with whoever said that it sucked lately but i never wanted the last episode to end.

Look, if we're going to have nerd wars here, the original comment was correct--he did make fun of her for it, just after she decided to drop it.

Arcade Fire is aiiight, but imo pretty overrated.

Funny how people get all huge boners over bands that don't really have anything special going on. Oh wow, a Talking Heads knockoff with violins. Enh.

scott-- josh schwartz *is* a huge fan of the album leaf. a couple weeks back the nytimes had a write up of him talking about music he liked and one of the articles was on the album leaf. can't say i mind, either - the album is great, and what he pics actually works perfectly with the scenes its put to. god bless josh schwartz (and adam brody, while i'm at it...)
