If you have HBO OnDemand, you can watch all of the seasons. They just added seasons 1-4 in addition to the latest episodes.

I was so sad to see Nate go!! It's like I lost a family member... I wish the last episodes wouldn't have to deal with mourning and burying one of the Fishers. It's the end of an era, definitely. I was sad for Brenda too because she was essentially dumped by a man who would die hours later... sucks.

Strawberry Letter 23 grooves the hardest, by far.

Does anyone else feel like this season is one big yawn? All of the characters just seem like shadows of their former selves. And yep, I do think Maggie is a "sappy little ferret" too. Also, I'm not entirely convinced Nate is definitely dead. Remember that lame alternate reality hooha stuff from the start of season 3? The next couple of episodes could all take place in Nate's comatose noggin. Whatever happens, let's hope its light on Death Cab singalongs, 'kay?

Thanks for posting the Shuggie Otis track, but wasn't it the Brothers Johnson version that was used in the show? Not that i'm complaining or anything...
Regarding Nate dying - seemed like it was inevitable. Someone on the show had to die. If anyone heard Lauren Ambrose's recent interview on NPR's Fresh Air, then you know that the final episode takes place in the Mojave Desert...Pray tell what could happen then?

I almost applauded when Nate died... his character wasn't really going anywhere, anyway. Brenda, a character who I usually can't stand, has actually been growing on me this season. She's growing up and moving on, while Nate was just stagnant, the same self-absorbed airhead that he always has been.

This show can't end fast enough as far as I'm concerned. Started out great, but now there's not a single character I can stand.

who does this sound like? Bill Withers? I can't place it, but I've heard this song before, recorded about 30 years prior.

Lighten up, goon. It's not really a "spoiler" if the episode has already aired (twice!). Don't blame us for your not springing for HBO.

Aw, that Shuggie album reminds me of summer 2002 and roof parties!

I do like Shuggie's original (1971,) but I think the way that Quincy Jones arranged the Brothers Johnson version was superb. For one, he changed the order of the song so the cool psychedelic guitar line was at the end of the song. Quincy also brought in Lee Ritenour to play the guitar for it.

Interesting fact: The Bros. Johnson covered it because George Johnson was dating one of Shuggie Otis' cousins and that's how he got a copy of the Freedom Flight EP that "Strawberry Letter 23" originally appeared on.

So remember kids... it's not always who you know, sometimes it's who your cousin is screwing.

The Brothers Johnson compilation that came out in the '80's (can't recall the name right now) is a worthy addition to any collection. It contains "Stawberry Letter" and a bunch of other classics and shoulda-been classics.

Yeah HBO says it was the Brothers Johnson version. Good ears y'all. Shuggie version is nice too, though.

Let's not forget Tevin Campbell's TOTALLY kick-ass version too. Give a little credit where it's due, y'all.

I'd never heard this version (The BJ version is one of my favorite songs ever).

The BJ version is more funkified, but this is sweet. Thanks.

this song rocks, and the episode was crazy. I just kinda wanted to hit Maggie. To get her all worked up.

I think it's important to note that Six Feet Under also used the Shuggie song Inspiration Information in the first season. Somebody in charge of music must have had a Shuggie fetish.
