Genesis Kick Off The Reunion In Helsinki

You can always count on us for a good old fashioned Genesis geek out, so pardon our excitement over this essentially perfect Genesis setlist, from their first show on this reunion tour at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki Monday night...

01 "Behind The Lines" / "Duke’s End"
02 "Turn It On Again"
03 "No Son Of Mine"
04 "Land Of Confusion"
05 "In The Cage" / "The Cinema Show" / "Duke’s Travels"
06 "Afterglow"
07 "Hold On My Heart"
08 "Home By The Sea"
09 "Follow You Follow Me"
10 "Firth Of Fifth" / "I Know What I Like"
11 "Mama"
12 "Ripples"
13 "Throwing It All Away"
14 "Domino"
15 "Drum Duet"
16 "Los Endos"
17 "Tonight Tonight Tonight" (intro)
18 "Invisible Touch"
----
19 "I Can’t Dance"
20 "The Carpet Crawlers"
They packed the rafters for the show, so we haven't found any good visual footage of the night -- but the audio on this clip of "Behind The Lines"/"Duke's End"/"Turn It On Again" is worth the listen...

More Fintastic footage after the jump...

Firth of Fifth/I Know What I Like is cool. Closing with Carpet Crawlers is great. But still, not nearly enough to get me to cross the street to see this.

I love vintage Genesis as much as anybody, and this setlist is pretty awesome, but I just have to say: a Genesis reunion without Peter Gabriel is utterly meaningless.

You had me at Ripples! I could stand to take a few of those out, but overall, this ia great set!

What jervo said...

Regardless, I'd still like to see Firth of Fifth played by these guys. But if they had Peter Gabriel, we would've had all of Lamb Lies Down On Broadway and I would've also wanted to see Watcher of The Skies.

I can't believe they played all this stuff from Duke without putting "Misunderstanding" in the set. WTF

If you could sum up my dislike of Genesis in two words, it would probably be "Drum Duet".

Wha? No 'Abacab'?

No 'Abacab' on this tour (or ever again, probably) 'cause Phil says he doesn't know what the lyrics mean.

And he does know what the lyrics to "I Know What I Like" mean?

I look forward to seeing that explained.

Anyway, *three* tracks from "I Can't Dance"? Yuk. Ah well - can't have everything I guess.

I'd wager "Misunderstanding" is in the set by the time they hit the US also. Gotta play to your markets after all...

At least they're not playing that godawful medley anymore.

I'm sure they'll change the setlist for the North American tour also, but if not, bathroom break for Hold On My Heart. I'm anxious to see Ripples in concert again though. Please don't take that out of the N.A. tour!

Hey everybody!

Was attending the concert in Switzerland yesterday, and it was just brilliant! As an old proggie at heart, I especially liked the old stuff. I've put a full review including some pics from the gig on my blog; you can check it out here and leave a comment if you like:

To all of you who still have their concert experience ahead: have an excellent time and better weather! :)

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun
