Giant Drag Covers Madonna (Stereogum Premiere)

Last December, Micah quit Giant Drag, leaving Annie Hardy to fend for herself. Wasn't the first time Micah left the band, but maybe it's the last; after nearly a year of radio silence, Annie's back in the studio working on the Hearts And Unicorns follow-up and causing a commotion with a contribution to the somewhat freaky, somewhat folkie Through The Wilderness tribute comp. The last track we checked from the tribute was Ariel Pink's "Everybody," but Ms. Hardy pulls from later '80s fodder with Like A Prayer's "Oh Father."

The melodramatic Madonna hook was a guilty pleasure for some, a regular pleasure for others; in Annie's Giant hands, the tune's gets a reverent update, with slight streaks of noise at the rideout to make it a little Drag like.

Giant Drag - "Oh Father" (MP3)

Ah, for old time's sake...

I love this cover even more than the original, but that's probably 'cause I love the melody and hate Madonna

Dear Jesse,
I think it's more than probably because you're stupid, she wrote the melody wether it's her version or the cover

Anyone else think that the cover for the original cassette single looks like quite Smiths-esque?
