Gilmore Girls Indie Talk Overload

Sometimes we have Gilmore Girls nights. Especially when we're asked (forced) to. And though Gilmore always throws in indie references, this exchange seemed a little over the top (starting with pregnant Lane's Eddie Argos love). Watch it here, sorta halfway through.

Lane: I spun the record for like a week straight cause who wouldn't wanna listen to Art Brut for a week straight? Oh pass me your lyrics. As far as I'm concerned "Formed A Band" can be the new National Anthem. I swear I could literally stand and cover my heart if asked ...

Dude 1: So what kind of stuff you been working on?
Dude 2: Mostly I've just been messing around. I wrote one song that's kind of White Stripes' "Little Ghost" meets The Decemberists meets Gulag Orkestrar meets like "Losing My Religion" meets Jethro Burns on that Steve Goodman album meets "Battle Of Evermore" meets The Smiths meets ... some other stuff
Dude 1: That's a lot of meetings.
Dude 2: Exactly.

BEIRUT ON THE CW! Aunt Linda gives that an "Oh Gaaaaah." And Lane, Art Brut is not good pregnant music! Plus, if you're trying to stay current, Art Brut is a double "no." What current indie bands make for good pregnant listening? We say Eluvium's Copia (sooo relaxing) or Panda Bear's awesometastic Person Pitch ('cause it's so Brian Wilson, and we really wanna say Pet Sounds).

Ok wait. Now, I don't watch Gilmore Girls...but what the hell is Sebastian Bach doing on there? C'mon. Quit it.

when my wife was pregnant, we first felt our daughter kick while prince's "musicology" was playing. and, later on in the pregnancy, the kid would go nuts in approval of "hello, nasty."

Person Pitch deserves its own post. Between this, Menomena, Deerhoof, and LCD Soundsystem, 2007 is waaay better music-wise than 2006.

Huh? Wha?

I've never watched the show, but this is weird. I mean, the second dialogue between "the dudes" is kind of funny and appropriate enough.

But...

Art Brut? Formed a Band? It was an inside joke amongst the writing staff, right? The record labels pay for the cross promotion right? They had to. I could imagine the writers gathering around for an update: "OK, executive orders from the guys at CW HQ- we have to mention Art Brut in this episode". Then they came up with this totally inappropriate dialogue as passive aggressive retribution.

Anyway, I'm sure Eddie Argos would find the dialogue hilarious.

Logan namechecked Pete Doherty a while back and it was really true to life -- he mispronounced his last name just like everybody else in America does.

ha ha, the gilmore girls 'r' so quirky.

there ought to be some kind of drinking game that involves the players to parrot the dialogue between the mother and daughter without taking a single breath. and if they can't, they have to drink up. everyone would be loaded within the first 15 minutes. the vocal athletics in that show have always amazed me.

oh and the new panda bear is great, agreed. menomena, andrew bird's leak, busdriver's new album, do make say think, amon tobin, reissues of mew's stuff... january is awesome.

I love how indie the 'Girls are, but I can't stand watching a show that has more dialogue in its 47 minute progam than the entire Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

Oh, and I'm listening to Andrew Bird's newest right now, and this stuff is too good, almost PERFECT for girls gone preggers. The baby'll probably be so goddamned excited he'll practically walk out of the womb.

wow!!!
I think we all just need to back away.
Andy maybe pretend like that never happened.
Kinda like the cross over episodes of Growing Pains and Just the 10 of us. It's just better. I'll be expecting a very special one tree hill where Matt and Kim accidently break down and save the local library with a charity concert..

In season one (I think?) Lane goes on a date with a dude in an End Hits Fugazi T-Shirt. She asks him if he likes Fugazi. He says its his older brothers or something.

okay...I'll just assume his older brother is into screen printing.

I swear, everytime they start their incesant chicken talking on that show I just imagine Samuel L. Jackson jumping in and saying "Damn woman, shut the fuck up and fix me my damn dinner!"

i watch gg religiously but that dialogue between zack (dude 2) and brian (dude 1) was a little over the top. they also referenced rilo kiley in an episode where lane debates whether or not to date zack in the first place (dating band members). sonic youth has appeared on gg and were also ref'ed in that episode if i'm not mistaken. k, bye!

I like when they throw in indie references.
A. new bands to check out
B. my friends feel dumb for only listening to songs like "Fergilicious"
C. who doesn't like a ref to their favorite band?
