Give It A Rest, Nevermind Baby

thumbnail icon: Give It A Rest, Nevermind Baby

In 1991, Spencer Elden was immortalized on the cover of Nirvana's Nevermind, and he's spent the last seventeen years not letting anyone forget it. Recently the high school student recreated that famous image in the same pool in Pasadena. "It remains unclear as to why Elden decided to shoot this new photo," reports MTV.com. Maybe he did it for the same reason he recreated the photo six years ago? "Every five years or so, somebody's gonna call me up and ask me about Nevermind," he told Rolling Stone in 2003. "And I'm probably gonna get some money from it." Someone get this kid a reality show already.

Will he ever catch that elusive dollar? Tune in again in five years when he is still trying to milk the picture in which he was taken twenty-two years ago!

If generation take-a-picture-of-myself doesn't like Nirvana, that's fine with me, just so long as we can agree they're the awesome.

Know what.... I agree. Sick of Nirvana. Just because every once in awhile somebody gets huge and flames out doesn't mean they are the voice of a generation. Up next Amy Winehouse. When she's dead in a few years I don't want to have to explain in 20 years why I still don't give a shit.

Wrong. Nirvana was a great band, and this was an important (and, yes, great) album. Does that mean we should deify Cobain or give a shit about Spencer Elden? Hell, no. But let's not lose all perspective.

See, what I did there was spell "deify" wrong and then try to fix it after hitting "Submit". Shit.

You know, I'd rather hear the story about the dollar. Are any of the recreations of the picture using the same dollar? If not, why? What did the dollar do to deserve such lack of appreciation? I mean besides have some heroin residue...

...hmm...too soon?

I'd rather hear the story about the dollar as well. Chasing a dollar today would be like chasing a penny in 1991. They really need to stick a Euro in that Pasadena swimming pool.

"This kid's a tool."
"Yea, he's just looking for attention."
"What a jerk."
"Yep."
"So...we'll put the picture up on the website then?"
"Absolutely."

I think that most people are failing to recognize that Spencer is the Grunge™ Generation's equivalent to Michael Apted's "7-Up!" documentary series.

Wait and see -- you'll find yourself wistful for him again around 2015 or so.

Oh come on. How many people have a fact that cool about themselves as a baby, even if they had no cognitive clue of what they were doing at the time. All I know about my baby life is that I got a seizure from watching Star Wars. I've recreated baby photos before, and none of them are as cool as an insanely iconic album cover.

it's funny that the third post of this comment got one thumbs down rating, but the other two stayed at 0. I would think the first would receive this and the others remain ignored.
