The 'Gum Drop Giveaway #9

As y'all know, each week Showtime's pot-selling-mom series Weeds' theme song gets a different spin, by everyone from the Shins and Elvis Costello to Devendra and the Decemberists (and, well, Billy Bob Thornton). One take on the Malvina Reynolds-penned tune you haven't heard -- unless you're a 'Gum Drop subscriber -- is the lovely, a.m. country turn by gothic-tinged Brooklyn-via-Georgia folkie Matthew Houck aka Phosphorescent. Houck submitted his version to the show, but it wasn't used. We think it's gorgeous, so in this week's installment, we wanted to make it available for our Droppers. Have a listen here.

This week's Drop also offers one lucky, literate reader the chance to nab a hardcover copy of Oliver Sacks's Stereogum-anticipated Musicophilia, which was just released today. Additionally, stock your library with seven Sacks paperbacks published by Knopf -- Uncle Tungsten, Seeing Voices, Awakenings, Migraine, The Island of the Colorblind, An Anthropologist on Mars, Vintage Sacks -- and a $75 iTunes gift certificate. Subscribe to the 'Gum Drop and enter the giveaway here. If you win, maybe you can buy whatever he's listening to...

CONTEST ENDS 11/07/07 AT 12PM EST.
