The 'Gum Drop Volume XII: Hear New Ida, Win New Nick Drake

This week's Drop found Ida harmonizing on "Lovers Prayers," the title track to their forthcoming seventh full-length, a series of, yup, prayers for and by lovers. Their simple, familiar sound remains as poignant as the first time we heard them, but with a warmer, woodsier air. As Daniel Littleton told us about the record, which they recorded in the Catskills, "If you listen closely enough you can hear the fireplace, a bird flying around the rafters knocking things over, tree frogs and insects." Take a listen here.

On top of Ida, we're giving away a copy of the limited-edition updated version of Nick Drake's 3-CD Fruit Tree box set, complete with the A Skin Too Few documentary and brand-new Drake-packed book. It's hard to believe, but the original 1979 version of Fruit Tree's been out of print for seven years. Righting that wrong, UME/Fontana are releasing this updated collection, which comes with the DVD and a 108-page book. That's all three studio albums -- Five Leaves Left, Bryter Layter, and Pink Moon -- packaged in reproductions of the original art, plus the DVD and book, available only in this limited-edition pressing of 8,000. The book features lyrics sheets, exclusive interviews with Drake's producer Joe Boyd and engineer John Wood, complete track-by-track analysis/history by Robin Frederick, and all original sleeve notes by Arthur Lubow. To quote: "The documentary A Skin Too Few approaches the silent landscapes, locations, people and music in his life, with contributions from Joe Boyd, Gabrielle Drake, Nick’s Cambridge friend and string arranger Robert Kirby and Paul Weller."

Fruit Tree is out 12/4. Head to Bryter Music or MySpace for more information. You can sign up to enter the contest and start rocking you own "Time Has Told Me" and "Pink Moon" post haste by heading here.

CONTEST ENDS 11/28/07 AT 12PM EST.
