The 'Gum Drop Volume XVI: Hear New Pseudosix, Win A DVD Player

In case you were too busy inspecting your Gummy ballot and forgot to check email, today's boozy mid-December Drop arrived came via Portland's Pseudosix. Yes, there are six players some of the time (from various PDX crews like Dolorean, Grails, Joggers, the Standard), but when the band started it was just main man Tim Perry by his lonesome: He invented the word "Pseudosix," and it has nothing to do with the head count. In fact, he told us things are still shifting. "In its biggest, balls out capacity, the band consists of six people. Other times, it's four or five of us. And on some lonely occasions, it's just myself." Which is how Perry approached "Serious Alchemist," a brittle, lightly percussive, oddly Oberstian folk-pop song about falling down drunk to chase the pain away. Man, too bad he has to be recording solo during the Holiday season. Take a listen here and give the dude some company.

You know, sometimes television can also be a friend. Need a new DVD player this Holiday season? Lucky you because today's 'Gum Drop also mentioned we're giving away a Sony DVP-FX810 portable DVD player + a DVD of the Manchester Orchestra documentary What's Left Behind. The super-specific deets: One winner gets a brand-new (no, not used) Sony DVP-FX810 portable DVD player. it looks like this.

Here are the stats, in the words of Sony:

The DVP-FX810 8" portable DVD widescreen LCD boasts a rugged design with sophisticated features. The swivel and flip screen offers multiple viewing angle options whether you are in a car, train or plane, or at the beach or the park. Watch a regular full-length movie with a battery capacity of up to 5 1/2 hours or plug in the supplied car adapter for extended viewing. Control buttons are located on the screen bezel for ease of use. Skip or fast forward a scene is so easy to do either with the control buttons or with the dual-sensor remote control. The special dual-sensor for remote control is a very convenient feature to have especially for the ones that are seated farther away from the screen. It gives them an extra angle to control the DVP-FX810 remotely. This portable DVD player is lightweight and compact that you can carry it anywhere you go.

Dual Sensor for Remote Control
The special dual-sensor for remote control is a very convenient feature to have especially for the ones that are seated farther away from the screen. It gives them an extra angle to control the buttons remotely.
We're giving it away in conjunction with the forthcoming film What's Left Behind, a documentary directed by Sam Erickson about Atlanta quintet Manchester Orchestra. The official release date will be announced in early '08. Check out the trailer here, and if you're interested, stream "Wolves At Night" over there.

Admirable beard, admirable humidity. Enough yapping, you can enter to win the DVD package now. Also, by the by, last week's Nirvana and R.E.M. swag is still attainable. Enter here, Kurt and Stipe lovers.

CONTEST ENDS 12/26/07 AT 12PM EST.
