Go Find The Go Find (And The Go! Team)

The Go Find is the alter ego of 28 year old Antwerp knob-twiddler Dieter Sermeus. Like The Postal Service's sleeper Give Up, Go Find's Miami is a winning blend of melancholy electronic soundscapes and irresistable vocal hooks (i.e., these are songs, not muzak), with subtle acoustic guitar thrown in for good measure. Dieter's voice never really takes center stage, it's more of a vibey album. But highly recommended if you like indie electropop like TPS or The Notwist.

The Go Find - "Over The Edge"

You can sample more songs at the Morr Music label site.

I ended up buying this album by default over the weekend. I was at Kim's on St. Marks on a mission to find the Morr's Japan-only 2004 tour CD, but it wasn't in stock. It's got Styrofoam covering Elliott Smith and Sebadoh. Check out a two minute stream (Real Audio):

Styrofoam - "Between The Bars" (Elliott Smith cover)

Also rocking the iPod, and I don't mean to confuse you here, is The Go! Team. You can learn about and listen to the band at Music For Robots (also you'll want to track down the tune "The Power Is On"). It's audio ecstasy.

You know who kicks ass? Bad Fucking Company. Now THAT is rock and roll.

I was actually in Bad Company for a while, playing bass, but I got kicked out. Long story short, I fucked Paul Rodger's (the lead singer's) brother. It was just three times. I mean, fuck. And if I had known he had a learning disability, I wouldn't have done it. Probably.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

Love,

maybe i've just missed it when this was mentioned, but i haven't seen anybody mention the go team (no !) in relation to the go! (with !) team. as you may or may not know, the go team was an 80's project with calvin johnson and tobi vail (later of bikini kill), along with a bunch of miscellaneous other people including lois maffeo, billy karren also of bikini kill, and most famously kurt cobain (who provided surfy guitar on one instrumental).

the go team was one of my favorite bands when i discovered them in high school (1993 or so).

I checked out Miami the other day after you added it to your 'Rocking The iPod' section, scott. It's kind of frontloaded with the better songs, but the back half is no slouch.

Pavement should be getting royalties for "What I Want," though.

The Go! Team are amazing. There are tracks up at MFR, but also read up on them in past postings by Gramophone, TTIKTDA, Smashed Robot! & Spoilt Victorian Child.

okay, "over the edge" is just beautfiul. i am going to belgium next month... my second mission (it's obvious that the first mission is to drink fine belgian beers for the first 24 hours), is to seek out the go find.
