Go On Now And Say Hello To Sam's Town

Did you catch my Iris Dement reference in the post title? Awesome! You guys are super smart.

MTV News' James Montgomery heard the whole album Monday night (sorry James!) and delivers a detailed report. Sounds intense.

Here's the album cover.

I know Stereogum initiates a lot of Killers trash talk ... but we will totally issue a half-hearted public apology in 18 months.

is that chyna, of wwf and surreal life fame, gracing this awful cover?

it is "aesthetically not pleasing." - nina garcia, project runway.

i guess they weren't really aiming to please people with that cover 'coz it looked like it was shot randomly by a random photographer (although i bet it was shot by the famed anton corbijn).

still, reading the mtv article, brandon might have lost points in my book, but i am still very much looking forward to the album.

Geez, I was just going to post and say, "Nice Iris Dement reference." AND YOU RUINED IT.

Can I reference the final episode of "Northern Exposure?"

The album title makes perfect sense due to their impending casino tour.

Residents of Las Vegas, Shreveport and Tunica will get that reference...

looking foward to it, no it wont be the best album in the past 2 decades, but it wont disappoint. all you indie fucks need to stop jerkin it to radiohead bootlegs on your low-flow toliets and recognize a good tune when you hear one.

Matt
Radiohead is so fucking Emo. No, I take that back. Cymbal Rush gives me a boner. Actually, Ive never listened to Radiohead. Or Cymbal Rush.

I can't pinpoint what I don't like about this new Killers album. But I think its the music.

It's definitely a Corbijn photo - and given the crap covers served up recently by RHCP, Jane's Addiction and Pearl Jam, this makes for a nice change.

the killers shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as radiohead. hell, i don't even use killers newspaper articles to mop up my bathroom after i'm done jerkin' it to radiohead bootlegs whilst sittin' on the toilet.

seeing as that they're from vegas, and there is a sam's town in vegas, my money is riding on (haha get it! gambling!) it being named after the vegas one.

and yeah, the photos are anton corbijn.

Yeah, the girl on the cover is a bit manly. Doesn't matter though. The new album sounds like a big departure from the simple synths and such on the first album...here's hoping it's as interestign as it sounds.

But those song titles are sooooo Americana...blegh.

thing is im just a bit baffled because i think of the killers i think of jewel-encrusted keyboards, not bruce springsteen or americana. so i'm interested in what this album actually sounds like.

haters, haters, haters.....have any of you listened to the album in its entirety? thus far, there has only been one song that has leaked and most of you are judging the album based on one song and the album cover....i will be the first to admit brandon flowers is a dumbass and usually is talking out of his ass, but the music deserves to be listened to first and then let for the bashing/gushing to commence...

what?? you actually want me to listen to the album before I criticize it ?!!? pish posh with that nonsense. I don't have to listen to the new album. I've listened to their awful first album, I've read all of flowers asinine comments, I've observed the growth of their moronic mustaches, I've heard them rape and pillage a Springsteen b side and I've witnessed with my own eyes this horrendous album cover. Sir, all of this adds up to one thing. Crap. There is no way that this album can warrant any artistic merit. I rest my case, I am the champion. Good day.

I think people give the Killers more shit than is necessary. They're just another band making more music, and what we think really doesn't matter does it? Saying the Killers suck won't start a death to The Killers revolution, so why bother. And why go after someone who says they think the Killers are alright? What point is that making? That you're an asshole and can't get over the fact that your opinion isn't the only one? Some people don't like the Killers, some people do. Get over it.

So sorry if I don't feel like discussing the top 10,000 reasons I don't like Brandon Flowers. I can think of better things to do with my time.

To those saying that "indie" kids don't like the killers because they're on a big label or that they have had too much exposure are so misguided. If the music had substance people would look beyond all of that, look at all the stupid gnarls hype. The killers deserve any backlash they get, clearly from the insults they received the first time around they're just riding the zeitgest sound of the moment. Why waist your time on such a worthless unimportant band with nothing new to contribute.

What artists have substance and what is your definition of substance in music today? I'm not saying the Killers do, but if you're going to make that argument I'd like to hear what new music in the last few years has substance. And please don't say Weezer, their substance died years ago when Rivers went celibate...

To start off, surprisingly not the easy fall back artist Thom Yorke or radiohead. Their time has come and kind of faded if you ask me. The new weird america artists show a LOT of promise and a LOT of substance. Andy Cabic of Vetiver is penning songs that finally sound timeless. Whether they actually gain the recognition they deserve or him and Devendra become the next nick drake or os mutantes figures..being rediscovered a few generations later by a larger audience is still in question. But you have to ask yourself what are you listening to now that you will be able to listen to in 20 years? There's a lot of gimmicks in indie music and the movements based off them never really went anywhere and seemed to tire themselves out quickly. When you're writing folk and rock songs that harken back to some of the most lasting and timeless music (os mutantes, velvet underground, caetano veloso, etc.) it's hard to consider their music fleeting.

Yeah that is for sure a fucking dude.. look at the hands, and the stomach, the jaw, and the thighs... whoa I'm looking a little too close... but anyway.. I really liked "Hot Fuss"... I thought "Andy You're A Star" was awesome, as well as "On Top" which was my fav 'driving to the bar' song of '04... not sure how I feel about the new single but... and I'm nervous about the album as to whether it will suck or not but... yeah... hopefully it won't.. music is fucking music.. "indie" or not.. so yeah... enjoy!

ps. MTV can't actually "review" anything... they have SOOO much fucking money at stake with these bands?!?! The Killers could record the sounds of a bowel movement sped up and they would call it "an exciting foray into experimental territory, the Killers offer up a fresh take on taking a poop. Check out the video on MTV Overdrive, our True Life special 'I'm In The Killers (Recording The Sounds Of Poop)', our exclusive 'Poop Sound Backwards Ringtone' as well as the album streaming live @ The Leak!" Their ability to be objective does not exist.

The album is in a whole different direction from the first one..... and in what way does the cover reflect the music??

Great curves, curly black hair, ect. Granted she is making a very serious face but either way I think shes a babe (and not in the WWF Chyna sort of way)
