Go-Betweens On 24?

In a year when everything from CSI to the latest Target commercial has cool music, 24 wants us to know it's as hip as The O.C.. Via Entertainment Weekly...

24 is the kind of TV show that begs endless questions, but those familiar with the Go-Betweens -- a semi-obscure '80s Australian pop band -- are fixated on one in particular. Did the Fox drama name a shady company McLennan-Forster as a wink to the group's co-frontmen, Grant McLennan and Robert Forster? "Frankly, it has a great ring," says 24 exec producer Evan Katz. "It seemed like a good opporunity to pay homage to a very talented cult band."
Nice. As long as Jack Bauer doesn't sing "Cattle & Cane."

I've never heard of the Go-Betweens, but I'll search them out for this alone. 24 rocks.. The Jack Bauer Power Hour.

The Go-Betweens are still going and still rock ... whose Jack Bauer?

I think it's the show's writer Evan Katz who is a big fan of the band.

The CSI shows have WAY cooler music than 24 or Target commericals. Kasabian, MIA, Cinefile (if you don't know check it out), Ambulance LTD, Teargass & Plateglass, Fridge, Home Video, Midwest Product, etc...

the go-betweens as they exist now are shadows of their former selves. "cattle and cane" is one of my favourite songs ever. i saw them support pj harvey a few years ago in their "new" incarnation and nearly cried when they sang "streets of your town" and there were no women's voices any more. stopped listening to them then and there.

The promos for 24 also used to feature music from the Jem "Finally Woken" album.

Mel P., the Go-Betweens have had Adele Pickvance, a very lovely bass player, for a couple of years now. And she sings backing vocals, the way Amanda Brown used to.

The original CSI indeed has some cool tunes, better than any other show.

I wish I could get into 24 cause it seems like a really good show. But I don't watch TV all that much so I really lose the plot when it comes to shows like 24 that's all continuous.

wait... wasn't the go-betweens material from the mid-80s (when they had the gals in the group) their worst stuff? their able label / missing link / postcard stuff (first lp and singles before it) is by far the best, followed closely by the second lp. but their new material has been better than the middle period.

never seen 24, so maybe i'm missing something -- but how is naming a "shady company" after the duo "a good opporunity to pay homage" to them?
