Fred Falke Remixes Grizzly Bear

thumbnail icon: Fred Falke Remixes Grizzly Bear

Just when you were thinking of being over "Two Weeks." The Remixer Of The Year race I just made up seemed to be tipped in the Golden Filter's favor just weeks ago, but after the Filter and Fred Falke's showdown over Little Boots's "New In Town," and then his exclusive knockout reworkings for Annie and U2, and now THIS awesomeness, the odds have been reassessed. Gone are Chris Bear's lockstep then shuffling beats and the "Hard Knock Life" bounce -- gone is all native instrumentation, really -- swapped for a straight-on bassline, four-on-the-floor beats, and blissy synths yanked from an afterhours club in Soho (the London one). The verses work but the hook is where it lifts off, Fred snatching Droste's vocal and stretching it like gauze over the track's syrupy underbelly.

This Fred Falke remix of "Two Weeks" will appear on the official single release, due out 5/18 via Warp.

Could anyone understand the first part of that paragraph?

There were more references than an episode of Family Guy.

A+ on wanting to be the first to leak the full thing instead of just waiting patiently a few more days for it to actually be released? Hrm...

That aside, the remix RUUUULLESSS! It's super fun and cheesy and I love it. Falke is on a roll like crazy! Just so much fun.

The transformation of this site into FredFalkeGum continues!

Some of you may be uncomfortable with awesome French house jams---don't you lose your indie-cred listening to dance remixes? Not so! Observe:

- Fred Falke often works with Alan Braxe; their instrumental song "Bliss" is super-smooth.
- Alan Braxe was one-third of Stardust, alongside the guy from Daft Punk.
- Daft Punk is hipster-approved.

So listen to all the Fred Falke you want!

FYI: The "Two Weeks" EP was on iTunes this morning. Download and revel in the Falke goodness.
