Grizzly Bear's Gilmore Girls Moment

Last night we got word that our OMG fave band received some casual, inevitable namedrop love on indie-talk overloading dramedy Gilmore Girls. From the Grizz's MySpace:

May 1 2007 8:36P

I believe it was in this context:

(girl is talking about touring with this band)

"OMG, it's going to be so cool, we'll meet other cool bands like tokyo police club and grizzly bear!"

We asked Droste Bear for comment. Said Ed: "We've arrived." Indeed they are following in the hurdy gurdyed footsteps of CW success. A shitty NBC buddy sitcom is sure to follow. Congrats GBears!

That doesn't qualify as a shirt, Ms. Alexis Bledel. That sort of thing goes around your neck; I think it's called a SCARF.

Actually, it was in this context:

(Asian chick talking about husband touring with a band)

"They're gonna open for Tokyo Police Club. And maybe even Grizzly Bear!"

(Guy with glasses talking)

"Yeah I heard they're playing roseland AND bowery ballroom!"

Pfheh. Lauren Graham a/k/a Lorelei Gilmore is the hottest momma in TV history, with or without her co-star's scarf.

As a counter, the Decemberists got a namecheck on Hollyoaks (I'm not explaining it if you don't know) two nights ago.

Furthermore, Yo La Tengo was brought up on Veronica Mars last night (Neko Case has had previous mention as well).

Gilmore Girls are slow to the show, guys. The Nature channel has been name dropping Grizzly Bears since the early nineties. they even have regular documentaries every year or so.

Wake me up when the Gilmore Girls show footage of the Grizzly Bears foraging for berries.

I missed this episode so I'm not sure how it came off but generally I cringe when this happens in movies and shows. It always comes off as strange; like some sort of product placement. I know, for the band, sometimes it can be a great way to get their name out there but it feels as if the producers are trying to ride on the bands' appeal. I guess what I'm saying is, I didn't care for "Garden State."

full list of bands and venues:

Tokyo Police Club (who, in the Gilmore world can headline Bowery Ballroom AND Roseland), Eminem, Iggy Pop, Grizzly Bear, Crooked Fingers, the Rosebuds, Bobby Conn and Midlake, plus mentions of venues Mercury Lounge, the 9:30 Club, the Black Cat, Magic Stick, and First Unitarian Church.

Plus, Kirk sang "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me," and Lorelei sang "I Will Always Love You" at a Karaoke bar.

Also, a lullabye version of the cure's "boys dont cry" was playing as lane was putting her kids to bed.

My favorite thus far is when Zach (the band guy) was asked to play a Celine Dion song acoustically for a dog funeral. "Oh God, no — not that. Anything but that."
