Guitar Hero Steps Into The Awesome '80s

Yes we are officially the last kids on the block to get hooked by Guitar Hero, but that's not keeping us from being excited about the chance to make funny faces while jamming to Flock Of Seagulls. Activision has announced Guitar Hero: Rock The '80s for PlayStation2, hair metal wig, lipstick, and blush not included. Here's what they've confirmed so far...

Asia - "Heat Of The Moment"
Dio - "Holy Diver"
Flock Of Seagulls - "I Ran"
Twisted Sister - "I Wanna Rock"
Bow Wow Wow - "I Want Candy"
Quiet Riot - "Metal Health"
Ratt - "Round And Round"
If you're the Vegas type, get your wager on by betting on which songs will be included in Guitar Hero 3. Odds on favorite is Ozzy's "Crazy Train" so you can finally rock it like Rhodes. We're still getting used to the sustain/whammy bar trick, so no bets from us thanks.

So songs that nobody would bother learning and performing on an actual guitar in 2007 are OK for button pressing by the musically illiterate.

I now understand the appeal of Guitar Hero.

G, take the stick out of your ass!

By the way, the actual recordings aren't used in the Guitar Hero games, right? Since Bow Wow Wow's "I Want Candy" is a cover, will they get any royalties?

YES! just started playing Guitar Hero and, even though I suck, I will be getting this disk as a full on child of the '80s!

Funny: my folks played bridge, but the wife & I now get together with other couples and rock out to GH 1 & 2.

Good to hear that some bar somewhere has GH nights... I figured I couldn't be the only person with that idea. Now if there was place in Hollywood...

G, I agree with you 100% This game is an insult to those of us who can barely feel the tips of our fingers after spending hours learning guitar solos and bass lines of our favorite tracks.

And F, I believe that some of the songs in this 80s update will be original recordings. I'll add that Bow Wow Wow's cover of "I Want Candy" is only superior to the original because of the drumming and the guitar tone.

Bow Wow Wow likely won't be looking at royalties for the song but I imagine they'll get some compensation as the introduction to the song in-game will say something along the lines of "as performed by..."
a la "You Really Got Me" which gives the nod to Van Halen (pissing me off in a pro-Kinks kind of way.)

This (along with a thousand other things) qualifies me as a mega-nerd but I think the voice-matching in GH1 is far superior to GH2. I do, however, give GH2 a big thumbs up for Spinal Tap.

Sim City is an insult to those of us who can barely keep their eyes open after fighting the legislation for hours to get our utilities bill passed. Get the F over yourselves.

Skatelip -- I think that they had to step down the quality of the covers on GH2, since some big artists actually play the songs on the encores. You've gotta put a clear distinction between the actual band and a cover version of a similar song.

An insult to people who know how to play real guitar? You're joking right? I don't think there is one person out there who can beat a song on GH at the hardest level that honestly thinks they are as skilled as a real guitar player. I mean really, could you be more pretentious?
