Guns N' Roses To Rock NYC Without Us

Fri, 05/12/06 07:30 PM Guns N' Roses SOLD OUT
Sun, 05/14/06 07:30 PM Guns N' Roses SOLD OUT
Mon, 05/15/06 07:30 PM Guns N' Roses SOLD OUT
Wed, 05/17/06 07:30 PM Guns N' Roses SOLD OUT

That was fast. Well, not really faster than expected. Stereogum wasn't quick enough (and we're not even big GN'R fans), but the $63 + fees per seat will be better spent elsewhere. (That "7:30" part should read "Axl may be five hours late or not show up.")

For music-minded New Yorkers, there are plenty of other ways you can relive 1993 on GN'R's opening night:

Glen Phillips (Of Toad The Wet Sprocket) @ The Canal Room
Ice Cube @ B.B. King's Blues Club
Jon Auer (Of The Posies) @ Mercury Lounge
And that new Jon Auer album is terrific. Never once did he consider hiring KFC bucket-wearing guitarist.

ehh, i tried but no dice. I'm not gonna cry like a graphic designer.

Would have been interesting to see if he has anything left in the tank. My guess is NO.

I would say that there's gonna be a lot of disappointed and poorer fans. That show will suck, why don't these fans get over the fact that this band is over?!?

I saw them in Toronto on one of those out-of-character-for-axl nights when he was actually there.

Buckethead in all his glory.

I'm surely not a fan of arena shows, but this one was pretty cool i must admit.

What a Motley Crew (crue) of a band that was.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over not getting tickets though, as I'm sure you guys aren't either.

I had something to say, but "Axl is a warrior viking" just... um.

Oh, right: Do you think there are two more dates to come, or is Axl leaving Saturday open so he can digest all the bad press about Friday's show before cancelling the remaining dates?

I kinda think that sitting through a present-day GNR set would be akin to watching the answering machine scene in Swingers about 300 times in a row. I want to crawl out of my skin just thinking about the vicarious embarrassment. Poor Axl...he was clearly born without a functional when-to-quit-ometer.

when to quit? the guy just sold out 4 shows in minutes. i can see if he had four shows and 10 tickets sold to each one. as long as people are buying he has no reason to quit.

I saw the new GnR line-up at the Vegas New Years show and in Tacoma during the 2002 tour. So rather than having to speculate about what the shows in NY will be like, I can tell you that they will be fuckin' AWESOME! I'm not one of these crazed Guns fans who thinks Axl is the second coming of Christ. But the dude knows how to put on a great show. And I've seen just about everyone play live (U2, The Rolling Stones, Radiohead, Beastie Boys, etc.). As for this "motley crew" of his... they are all amazing musicians. Robin Finck from NIN, Tommy Stinson from The Replacements, Brain from Primus. There is a huge amount of talent here. As for Axl's unpredictabilty when it comes to showing up for his own gigs -- yeah that kinda sucks. I have tickets to the last show, and my fingers will be crossed until then. But rather than rolling your eyes and saying "God, doesn't this freak know when to call it quits", see one of these shows and you'll be begging for more.

so you're saying that if someone were to have extra tickets and offered them to stereogum for regular price (not ebay price -- which is a phenomenon in itself), stereogum will pass on it?

Jesus Christ, I can't believe the amount of undeserved hype for such a fucking has been. 63 bucks? Christ, 4 sold out shows? Axl's gonna be doing lines of coke off of strippers asses for years due to folks with income so disposable they'd even blow it on this.
