Gwen Doesn't Want Her MTV

NY Post has Gwen Stefani has had it with the MTV VMAs.

The "No Doubt" cutie is said to be "boycotting" tomorrow's show because of the shoddy treatment she got last year. "She had a ton of nominations and was under the impression she would be taking home at least one award," our insider said. "But every award, except that lame best-dressed award, went to Kelly Clarkson, and every time Kelly won, the camera went straight to Gwen. She felt set up." Stefani also thought she was going to close the show - another honor that went to Clarkson. Stefani's rep declined comment.
Speaking of the VMAs, it looks like I'll be going tomorrow. They didn't really give me any details, so I don't know what type of access I'll get. Have any of you ever gone? Is it gonna be totally boring? More importantly: can anyone get Stereogum into any of the cool afterparties?

Wah!

when Gwen starts whining how does anyone know the difference? does she do something with her eyes to indicate her nasally vocals are now supposed to be interpreted as a whine of displeasure and not a wicked-cool pharell remix?

oh and in PR speak "boycotting" can often mean "still hasnt lost her pregnancy weight"

wah wah wah. while you're at it, boycott the music industry and quit making records.

I guess when you can't write crappy lyrics about how it sucked when your bassist broke up with you, or how much you want to get married and have kids, you have to create you own angst.

I honestly thought that artists couldn't give a shit about these award shows... I mean, the VMA's? Does anyone really believe MTV awards these things based on artistic merit?

what's with all this gwen hate? i'd rather listen to her than that awful fergie and her "london bridge." i wish gwen could make a comeback so she can kick fergie's ass.

but if it's true she's whining over losing to kelly, well, she seriously needs therapy. mtv vmas are merely popularity contests and nothing more. however, she did lose to kelly in several categories at this year's grammys. now that's something to whine about.

scott, you'll have a great time! your new fave band panic! is going to be be performing. hurrah! ;-)

Well, if they really want Gwen to make an appearance, they can probably hire 120% pitch-raised Matthew Bellamy to fill in for her.

hey scott, i was on the white carpet at the VMAs in miami last year and it was a total headspinner. best thing you can do is study your b-listers like you would a field guide to wildlife before going on safari. be prepared w a few pithy questions for the hot shots you actually want to talk to, and be assertive if you really want an answer. your window is very, very brief and most of the major celebs will sashay right by anyway. dont be afraid to yell!

during the actual awards all the press was corralled into a little practice gym next to american airlines arena. we watched the show on closed circuit; only bigwigs (CNN, network) got inside the arena. some of the winners were shepherded out to us after they grabbed their awards -- i talked w daddy yankee for a minute, and pete wentz said a few words, press conference style. woulda been a lot more entertaining to actually be inside, so hopefully theyll set you up.

i partied next to jay-z and luda at mansion afterwards.

overall it was pretty underwhelming but made for a good story.

i didn't think that any of those bands really cared if they got one of those awards...seriously, it doesn't seem like a make or break situation...

I bet it's the pregnancy weight. I think it's super she hasn't freakily dropped it all in a week though.

Now I understand why she looked so pissed last year.

That's what she gets for being "under the impression she would be taking home at least one award." Just because you are nominated tons, doesn't make you a winner.

It's hard to have a VMAs when the network no longer plays music videos.

Tony G with the truth.

Does anyone really watch these anymore? I'll admit they were a guilty pleasure for the longest time, but around '97 the magic just seemed to disappear for good.

VMA press credentials? Ha. Have fun watching it on TV monitors in the basement surrounded by the sweaty aroma of your journo/blogger peers. And no beer...

wow when I first read the start of the story I thought she would be boycotting the awards for a legitimate reason. Then I realized that no one has really watched the VMAs for the past few years because nobody cares about an awards show that picks its nominees based on their 1 minute video clip on TRL. It's not the grammys, Gwen, but those are a joke too now.

who the fuck cares?? it's mtv for fuck's sake. mcdonalds having a "best food" award would be about credible as the vmas.

"i wish gwen could make a comeback so she can kick fergie's ass."

First: "London Bridge" is better than "Hollaback Girl." A man being pummeled with beakers of acid would sound better than "Hollaback Girl."

2nd: "Comeback?" Wasn't she the biggest thing just last year? Yous guys and your short attention spans....

From Hits Daily Double

GWEN HOLLAS BACK AT THE POST: Gwen Stefani felt compelled to set the record straight after an item appeared in Wednesday’s Page Six claiming she was “boycotting” tonight’s VMAs "because of the shoddy treatment she got last year." "Despite what you may have heard, the only reason I am not attending the MTV Video Music Awards is because I will be recording and spending time with my family,” she writes in an email. “Any other speculation out there is false. I congratulate all of this year's performers and nominees and I look forward to being back at the VMAs next year." (8/31a)

jason robots, well, fergie, gwen, we're all entitled to our opinions. and oh yeah, it was just last year, i feel like it's been so loooooooong 'coz that's how much i missed her. ok, so i like gwen. i admit it.

whether she feels bad or not about the mtv vmas, it's not a big deal. she'll always have a loving and gorgeous hubby (albeit a has-been musician) and a cute baby and gazillion earnings to console her. she'll be more than fine.
