Sessions@AOL premieres another cut off her forthcoming CD. Watch here.

Gwen loves her JPop.

Ugh.
Please go away, Gwen. I beg of you.

I love Gwen, but that was painful.

Nice lip synching.

Oh and those are possibly the worst lyrics in the history of the world. I'm actually embarrassed for her.
This clips makes Shania Twains's look like 'Thriller'.
Score = 0
well, that was just bad. horrid even. horrifyingly bad.
Score = 0
I advocate freedom of speech, and all, but my goodness, that was horrid. I thought Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus was bad.
Score = 0
It was bad but I still say Shania was worse. C'mon -- at least Gwen wasn't swinging from a chandalier.

whoa. awful song.

i don't even know if i'd call it a song...

omg...that was terrible! Go away Gwen, stop doing Madonna's career. We're sick of Madonna too!
Score = 0
wrong... just plain wrong. she needs to break up with gavin in order to write decent songs again... this sucks...
and it hurts me to say it since i'm a HUGE ND fan... been since 91!

Can someone tell me what I should do to see this video? I don't know a damn thing about this stuff.. :-o Do I -have- to dl that AOL dealy-bopper?
*kicks self*

Holy crap on a crutch, that was horrid! Gwen, what in the holy hell has happened to you?? You used to be so cool and laid back and normal. Now you've clearly gone insane. Your interviews these days make me a little sick. Where did you get on the high&mighty, rich, couture-girl train, dude? You should really step off. No, really, step off, George. I told you to step off. I will always love my No Doubt (pre-Crap Steady), but Gwen, your solo career will go nowhere, I promise you. What a load of stanky, weird, exploited-japanese girls crap.[/rantastic]
Those women must think she's absolutely nuts. I know I do.
Score = 0
Damn,
I totally liked it until the first chorus -- then it just fell apart.
Man, I don't want to think Gwen is hot -- it goes against my religion or something -- but she (and her voice) is so sexy . . .
Score = 1
is she afraid of offending anyone with this stuff? just saying?

what

Is that like her new single, cause I don't think that even the play-the-same-song-over-and-over pop stations will play that crap.

Oh come on, as if the US isn't obssessed with Japanese-anything. I like Gwen's new song and video. I think it's cool. It's almost as good as my own song, "I'm a Little Asian Girl".
Score = 0
it might be just an exclusive AOL performance, rumour is the next single will be the Dre produced collaboration with Eve....

She's consistent - cute once, annoying everytime after.

This is what happens when we keep validating these people even after they've clearly gone batshit crazy. We get Gwen thinking she's God gift's to fashion and some kind of songwriting genius and Paris Hilton leaves her house.

wow. that was so much worse then i thought it was going to be. i love gwen's shoes though.
Score = 0
eww. bad song. *cringe* wtf are those shorts?
her fashion line is bad too.
Score = 0
Wow: I like to think that I'm in the prime demographic to enjoy that video...I'm interested in Japanese street fashion (FRUiTS, anyone?), I sort of like Gwen Stefani, etc. But JESUS GOD: THAT WAS AWFUL. I have to disagree with Jane Doe and say that those shoes are terrible -- how did she manage to walk on those stripper pumps? And the lyrics. Dear god, the lyrics. It's extra weird because I agree with most of what she's saying, but these words do not need to be put to music. A song about fashion is a painful song indeed.
Score = 0
I am so embarrased for her! I use to love Gwen, and no doubt....but this was junk....and the stupidist lyrics i have ever heard. what a disappointment.

I think Gavin has been putting Crack in her Green Tea.

fashion pop is not poppin. and neither is her ass, or lack thereof.
makes me wanna punch her in the eye. the song, that is.
Score = 0
the HARAJUKU GIRLS line in the first single is annoying enough, did she really have to devote an entire (horrific) song to the subject?
worrrst.
Score = 0
i can't believe she name dropped eley kishimoto. this entire video is painful to watch, and not because she's mincing around in those five inch stilettos.
what, now because she's married she can't sing about wanting to be married?
also, in the other gwen stefani post here, a lot of folks mentioned how thin she's gotten. now i see it. she looks good though, but isn't as "cute" as she once was.
p.s. i met her at barneys once (five or six years ago) and she had dreadful crow's feet, and about six inches of foundation on. but i still thought she was cooooooool. after this video, she is so uncooooooool.
Score = 0
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! Why don't you try a little harder you STUPID bitch? This song makes my ears bleed, but I hope she releases it as a single so her career will FINALLY crash and burn. Her style is just as bad as all those 'punks' that hang down on St Marks Place. Tired & old.

Hmmmmm...if the AOL player weren't such a worthless piece of shit, I would have been able to view this video without skips and drags. But from what I was able to see and hear, I'd say I'm 50/50 on it. It has its good points, and it has its bad.
Let's put it this way. I'm not going to bother to try to find it on a better player.

Shark jumped - even her Moby collab wasn't as moronic. Bring back the band, Gwen.
Score = 0
to think i used to admire gwen's lyrics!!!!
that chorus is idiotic!
well, people, unfortunately it's obvious she needs angst and strife to write good songs, and we all know what she's going through now - the gavin having a 15 year-old daughter with pearl rowe when before he'd sworn to gwen he'd never had sex with ms rowe - so expect the deeper songwriting for her next album (with no doubt, hopefully).
(she better not release this as a single! ashlee simpson killed her career through a mistake, but gwen is releasing this intentionally!)

meow!
never was a big fan of hers, no i don't the song, and yes it's campy... but I think the video captured the essence of japanese culture from what I understand of it: complete lack of irony. wasn't she about "keeping it real" and authenticity ie. wearing the things she likes to wear? I think she's just writing about something she happens to like. no irony=refreshingly good.

Thanks for the fashion tip about Vivienne Westwood and second-hand cloh-oo-whoas, Gwen. You're such an expert now that you've launched your glorious handbag line. While watching this, I felt like I was bearing witness to my ex-showgirl stepmom's attempt to regain her former glory by performing karaoke at the local, suburban community center.

*snorts two lines of Tina* dang, that song was whack. What happened to the hot Gwen from the last video. Uhg. I'm gay now.
Score = 0
What the hell was that? I seriosly had a lot of respect for her, I always thought she was somewhat of a trendsetter and she basically knew how to be successful. That's why I am surprised she would actually put a song like that on her CD, like I don't even know what to think right now.. you would think that she, out of everyone, would have thought twice before putting a crap song like that on her solo CD, especially if she wants respect from anyone. I really doubt this song is going to become popular, and watching that video makes me feel embarrased for her.
Score = 0
This song is just as unique as Harajuku fashion. But like Harajuku, weird doesn't necessarily mean good. Gwen, what happened to you?

ugh why gwen? i used to have so much respect for her.

There's a moment toward the end when she has pulled the mike away from her mouth but "she" is still singing. Ridiculous...
What is her obsession with young Japanese girls? And why is she dressed like Alice in Wonderland gone biker? And why are the "fashionable" girls in naughty school girl outfits and kabuki make up?

__W__T__F__??? Holy shit, that was complete garbage. And this is only the second single? Good to know I can avoid the rest of the album. The first single was an 80's rip off, quite mediocre, but I won't even bother with any other tracks after hearing this, it's embarassingly bad. Just proves that all the songwriting ability rested with the guys from No Doubt: Sadly Gwen is nothing but fluff, all the talent was in the band. Flash forward 1 year: Gwen's solo record pulled from the 99-cent bin, marked down to 89-cents. (And I still won't buy it.)

I think that this song is psychotic, yet good. I love her new solo music, almost as much as her music with No Doubt. Everyone needs a little change every-so-often, and it's better she do this solo instead of with No Doubt. But obviously, Gwen has gone insane...

P.S. The Harajuku style is crazy-cool. I highly suggest that any girls out there trying to redefine their fashion turn to Harajuku...

I had to stop watching that piece of shit video!! My eyes just couldn't take it any longer, she needs a new hairstyle-that 'long-fake-hair piece' is old(her real hair breaks off cuz' it's so damaged). She really does need to stop copying Madonna. The song is an annoyingly crappy 'Blondie' attempt. Gwen WILL NEVER BE AS HOT AS DEBBIE HARRY WAS!! EVER! Age is also catching up with her.
Score = 0
Here's what I think:
-The way she sings reminds me a lot of No Doubt. She does the vibratey thing with her voice, which I love, and she does the "BOOOOOO!" which she does in Platinum Blonde Life live. So I thought that was cool.
-Her boobs are not bigger. The shirt she is wearing is pushing her up and gives the appearance of bigger boobs (just like in the wedding dress and pink wig in Simple Kind of Life).
-She dances just like she does when she's with No Doubt live. You guys just hate it cuz she's not with the band.
I see nothing wrong with any of it.
But you're all entitled to your opinions so ok bye.

Hey I love this song. The whole back to the eighties thing is hip. I think you guys are being waay to harsh, from a musical stand point this definately has it's moments. The video is a beautiful piece of art and the harajuku girl style is awesome! At least the japanese girls are not "sheeped" (as in too dumb to make their own styles) like american girls seem to be. But c'mon, you still have to consider what people will think about YOU!! im really embarassed when i watched your harajuku girls video. Im not trying to say Harajuku girls are bad or anything. But i think it was very wrong to include elemets like 'style, fashion' in music... do not get confused between your career..

I live in Tokyo. Gwen - it is not "HaraSHUku" - it is HaraJUku... too busy stumbling over yourself to desperately try to look 17 - like the little girls in Harajuku - to notice the actual pronounciation?
Gwen - please - the whole fashion thing is so passe' - what happened to you? Does Gavin really like that shit or are you hanging with too many hanger-on, name-dropping, gay fashion hacks to know the difference between strained/artificial and real/genuine/original anymore?. Why don't you go home for a while and sort it out...
Really, that was sad. My Japanese friends were actually a bit grossed out by it all.. you are singing about the oh-so-thrilling (tacky as hell, nasty, degrading - we in Japan laugh at it, thank you very much)) fashion of Tokyo while in a oh-so-So.Cal. tacky hot pants number while Japanese girls in school uniforms worship your oh-so-blondness. Yuck.

Well i have mixed opinions about the song, and theyre not that good.........First i think that whole promoting-my-style parnapheralia is utter crap, and Gwen should try to concentrate lyrically (at least a lil bit more) on the deep stuff, like her relationship with Gavin Rossdale (which she smartly chronicled on ROS and Rock Steady), than the superficial ( e.g fashion, stardom, obsession with japanese). Universally speaking, this song is an insult to her cred for honest, insightful lyrics that maybe can't be compared to the depth of Alanis but can definetely make a lot of ppl feel identified and relate to them.Cmon Gwen, we know that many of ur fans r gay couture-loving camps but u also have 2 focus on the other part of ur fans, the 1s that admire ur sincerity, and the way you give us insights on ur private life thru ur lyrics, and i think with this ''effort'' ur not considering ''us'', or that part. And BTW, she does the same idiosincrasic thing that shes done on ND songs like Beauty Contest of meaning the same thing (or practically the same thing) on most lines of the song, in other words the lyrics just keep on revolving around the same fashion concept with any climatic changes or switches. Second of all, whats up with her obssesive fixation on the Japanese? Adressing their supposed super style scene (which she's
practically kinda ignorant about, according 2 LeeLee ;) in most of her new songs, and with all those tacky, campy lines in Japanese, English and French, is, believe me, VERY LAME. Plz Gwen, I hope thats the only song (along with WYWF) u ever talk about those damn, horribly overquoted Harajuku Girls. And last but not least, i have this odd feeling that yer solo effort is gonna withdraw many old and new fans of ND, and bring a lot of pop-lovers in the fan crowd, well i hope u dont mind losing all ur skanker/punker fanbase will ya?. Well is there anything good about the somewhat pathetic, very tacky unnecessarily overshallow (lyrically speaking), and excessively J-biased song? The beat, definetely. The producer of this song (was it Hooper or Austin???), managed to retain it's ultracatchiness all through without any pitfalls or downs, being it's kitschy instrumentation (some Color In Your Life-era Missing Persons on some spots), and pseudo-party tone what stands out. And honestly, the lyrics fit the beat just fine, u have 2 admit that,even though u hate the lyrics, u just can avoid mumbling the song under ur nose all day long. It's catchy and perfect for a club, and maybe not as much as WYWF, but yes most of the time. In the depth of it all, every1 makes mistakes and artists do 2, and with this number Gwen has made a very bad mistake , but hopefully it wont damage the rest of her album. So well my dear ND fans, Gwen has decided 2 make dance music, so we'l all have 2 live with that whether we like it or not, and unfortunately its always gonna be catchy before its deep and profound

First I would like to start off by saying that I love gwen stefani and No Doubt, and I agree that this song is not exactly the best she's ever written. But Come on. It's one song.
You havn't heard any of the other new songs from her new CD, they could be way better than this. A lot of the time bands and artists release singles that you dont like, but the rest of the CD could be awesome. It's just your taste in music I guess.
Personally, I love the new song "What You Waiting For?" and have been anxiously awaiting the 23rd for the release of the album.
One other thing to remember is that the CD is supposed to be a "dance record" and probably won't have very strong lyrics. It's very rare that a dance song does have strong lyrics.
Just take it for what it is and get over yourselves. It isn't like you can make her stop doing what she is doing. So what if she wants to go solo? She is allowed to do what she wants. Go complain about Britney Spears or Hilary Duff or something. At least Gwen writes her own songs. While Britney spears gets other people to write her shit.
I'm sorry if you disagree with me but I have the right to like what I like, and well..
I Love Gwen Stefani. :)

oh my gosh you guys! will you listen to yourselves? havent you been paying attention. a l ot of you have been totally bitchin about the lyrics and stuff. didnt you hear? she said that she didnt want to pour her heart out like she did with No Doubt. also that this was just supposed to be a fun dance album, a guilty pleasure. c'mon guys. youve listened to it once, probably only half of it, and you just go right ahead and assume its horrible and everythings horrible, gwens horrible. NO! i admit, i listened to like 1/4 of it and i was like omg what IS this. but then i listened to it again and it wasnt that bad. and it just kept getting better. its actually really fun to sing and dance to, and THAT was the point. but hey, i know youre all entitled to your own opinion. but come on, lets be a little bit more open/excepting.

hey all yall who think Gwens new song sucks!!!!
She is one of THE MOST original song writers/designers there is today. (besides me ofcours;) you are all so jelouse of her originaloity and you couldn't write a song half as cool as that!!! Also i here some of you dising her line of hand bags!!! I happen to have one and they are almost 100% leather free and really cool and they dont rip. Also yall dont no the real gwen who totally created her self. this music video shows how outgoing and creative she is and how cool harajuku girls dress!!!
I am one of the biggest ND/ gwen fans ( i have created a couple folders devoted to them, all my peers think i am crazy!!!) who alot about this rokin girl so SHUTUP all who dis it!!!!!
Score = 0
i loved this video. i loved that it shows another aspect of gwen's creativity, personality, and artistry. it doesn't all have to be one style or always deep lyrics. it's just fun and there aint nuthin wrong with that.
and she is always very hot. i don't care if she wears extensions or hot pants or long pants or flat shoes or stripper pumps. she's just hot. she has the moves, she has a unique voice, she has the stage presence.
some of the people who posted talk about "fashion" as a bad topic for a song. i think bowie sang it best....There's a brand new dance
But I don't know it's name
That people from bad homes
Do again and again
It's big and it's bland
Full tension and fear
They do it over there
But we don't do it here
Fashion - Turn to the left
Fashion - Turn to the right
We are the goon squad
And we're coming to town
Beep-beep - Beep-beep
ok, so his lyrics have a little more substance. i still like gwen's song :)

well, i appreciate that japanese street fashion (which i am a huge fan of) is making an appearance in mainstream america ^_^;;; but that song's lyrics were a bit...lame. I mean, when I first read them they seemed kinda cool. I thought "oh wow. a song about Harajuku" (which she pronounced wrong...) and the line "it's super kawaii! that means 'super cute' in japanese" jsut made me groan XD it's a nice effort, though. and i completely understand her current obsession. the ammount of brand/name dropping is almost comical, though ^_^ i'll have to hear it a few more times before i make a final decision, but for now, i don't think i like it as much as i hoped i would ;_; oh well. thanks for trying, gwen!!

Oh my, Gwen I think it was great. The expression was not the norm, but that is what I enjoyed. You had fun doing this and well as an artist not everyone is going to agree. New crisp sound made me forget I was at work and just wanted to go outside and play in fantasy land. Definite a must have.

JB - In no way is Gwen the new Madonna. Madonna can be compelling. Ever heard Gwen in an interview? Her voice is annoying and she says pretty idiotic things. Madonna does compelling videos, she's got her thought-provoking moments, and she can shock the masses. Gwen has great style, but no substance. She's superficial, even when she whines about her love problems. I've tried to like her, but her No Doubt lyrics sound like they were written by a lovesick 13-year-old girl. Nothing about Gwen or No Doubt is pleasantly controversial.
By the way, I'll bet if Britney had come out with a song where she squeals, "That means super cute in Japanese!" you Gwen-lovers would crap all over it. Or if she came out a year ago proclaiming to be a "super-hot FEE-male?" (God knows she isn't now...)

I respect anyone who puts themself out there and has courage to keep growing and expressing themselves in different ways . . everything must grow or die - that's life - props to her for trying something new - people are fickle and hard to please . . it's so easy to bash someone and try to chop them down - people who follow their heart, and make something of themselves in life and are congruent in who they are (meaning their inside matches their outside . . they do the damn thing - they don't just sit around talking about it . . etc) are rewarded with lifes best - blessings/opportunities/experiences.
Conversely, all the negative, overly critical and judgement-based people don't even come close to reaching their own potential - their so busy putting energy towards the so called "offensive" things others are doing to them . . such as a singer releasing material that is new and different. Oooooh, so offensive.
Please!
Personally, I'm feelin' her . . and to hear ya'll bash her - makes her like and respect her even more, baby!

As a dedicated old school No Doubter, I strongly disagree with those of you who keep dissing Gwen for doing this album. REMEMBER KIDS: IT'S JUST A SIDE PROJECT! And more importantly - IT'S A "DANCE" RECORD. It's not No Doubt, nor a No Doubt project. She is NOT going solo and No Doubt has NOT broken up. Both Adrian and Tom have side projects (aka OTHER BANDS) and they are not getting bashed, so why is everyone picking on Gwen? Who cares if the lyrics are not "deep" and emotionally insightful. Let the girl have fun with it! IT'S A DANCE RECORD!!!
Gwen, not only are you fabulous, you look FANTASTIC! Just don't get too skinny like pre-Tragic Kingdom days. Oh, and please dump Gavin. You and Tony were meant to have babies:)

**I really hope gwen doesnt read this shit, there is some pretty mean hating going on here. you put her on a pedestal but you are just dying to smack her off and claw her to death.
anyway, i agree that the lyrics are really cheesy. but you know, gwen isnt trying to rip off japanese fashion or degrade japanese people. come on. she really loves japan. and so do i. and i love gwen. she is a hot mama. i also love japanese street fashion, esp. gothic lolita, and i love alice in wonderland. the garters and hot pants are pretty un-harajuku, try racequeen. but so what.
as for 'using' those japanese girls, i dont get it, they are probably being paid very well and dont mind dancing around with gwen at all. the video was a little wierd, tho, i kept thinking she was gonna start spanking them. that would have made it ALOT better **

oh and by the way Japanese girls aren't Bulimic they just eat healthy and do alot of walking as for Gwen I don't think that she would write anything that would influnce girls to starve themselves or to have image-problems.

Gwen is fabulous, and always will be. You guys abviously don't appreciate high quality music and fashion. And there is no need to diss the harajuku girls cuz they are almost as fabulous as Gwen. If you all were rael fans like you say you are you wouldn't turn around and hate her for one song that you just aren't cultured enought to appreciate.
Score = 0
Shit, you people are nasty. If you were fans you wouldn't be so cruel, especially knowing she might read this. I can't believe how uptight most of you people are. She's havig fun, so let her be! She can't please everyone all the time and for fuck's sake, she's human! Stop being so fucking mean! If you don't get the theme or don't like the theme, then so be it. But lots of us do get it and like it. And I'm not a teeny-bopper fan, I'm 28 years old and have been a No Doubt fan for almost 10 years. I'm not an uptight asshole, however.
Gwen, keep doing what you love and don't let closed-minded morons bring you down.

Yeah okay Wytewitch I kinda contradicted myself there...what I meant was I wouldn't have the balls to wear Harajuku fashion newhere outside Harajuku/ Shibuya. I wouldn't wear the whole look in London, maybe just knee stockings and pleated skirt. Oh and the person who mentioned Gothic Lolita, if you got the balls to wear that out in America then go you. And I'm sorry, but you are totally in your rights to cuss someone if their song sux. Just because its Gwen Stefani makes no difference- its still fucking tragic. I've actually listened to the song now, and yes, she pronounced Harajuku WRONG. I thought one of her Japanese dancers coulda taught her how to say that maybe? Oh and KD or KC or whatever, I can't be arsed to scroll back 2 see what your name was, that's what I mean by saying other people will copy the fashion. I never said that was bad, because Japanese people rip off foreign fashion (particularly English punk) and incorperate it in their own style. It just wont be very original any more. I'm only 15 so please don't cuss too bad after this post everyone x x x

Hi there,
I'm pretty confused. That AOL version of Gwen Stefani's song was titled "Harajuku girls." I thought the single is called 'What you waiting for?'
I know it's titled that in Australia beacuse i bought the single.
The live version i just watched on AOL is not fantastic. I really didn't like the whole squeaky singing, (i can sing it better live) but the recorded version on the single is great.
I HATE HATE HATE remixes and dubs that ANY artist places on their singles now just to fill up space or whatever. PLEASE stop doing it!!
Score = 0
I think her video is so original. Her lyrics are different than the one's she usually writes but at least she has the balls to try something new like she always has. When No Doubt came out, it was during the Grudge time with the whole Nirvana thing and they were all ska and bright and happy. Later she's been winning almost every award that she's been nominated in on MTV's VMA's. You go Gwen!

I think that Gwens new music solo career sounds like a rehashing of the 80's band, the missing persons. Personally, I like it. I wonder if she was insired by them? Maybe it was a collaborated effort?
Score = 0
I dare you to listen to any song from the band the Missing Persons and tell me if that doesn't sound exactly like Gwen Stephanis new song, What you waiting for. She even does the lead singers trademark squeeky vocals!! She also looks a lot like the lead singer, and dresses like her too.
She's not being original here.

Okay well first, the jokes not on any one, whether they like Gwen Stefani or not to the person who made that comment. In my opinion its tragic and really bad, and that does not mean I hate my life, to the person who made that comment. And I don't feel embarrased at all at cussing Gwen Stefani, to the person who made that comment.Yeah, its a song, whatever. Either you like it or you don't. I happen not to because I'm Japper and I think its funny, especially when she pronounces stuff wrong (the most important word in the song, Harajuku) If I took the song seriously I would honestly think she was taking the piss. Oh and to the person who asked, bishoujo means beautiful. Someone should put sugar in her dancers gas tanks coz they are crazy. Gwen Stefani wa baka temee desu x x x

Musically, the song isnt toooo bad, its a little more 'entropic' then the standard pop fair, and that makes it better then other pop songs.
The lyrics werent great though, and the little line about kawai needs to be removed O.o that made me cringe >.<

Ok i just saw the Harajuku Girls aol session vid.
I think the songs pretty cool. I love the vocals.
I think it'll be a great dance album. I think that's what most people are annoyed at. They're expecting something different. From the start Gwen said that the album would be 'dance'. Not ska, not reggae, not like No Doubt stuff.
I don't like dance usually, but being completely objective here, I DO like the two songs i've heard so far on this album (i.e WYWF and HG)
And yes. I WILL buy the album when it comes out.

Wow, I thought what are you waiting for was bad, this harajuku track is just horrid. I can understand Gwen's attraction to Japanese culture and style. Im a 29 year old guy and I swore off dating anything BUT Japanese chicks like 11 years ago because they are so much better than typical american chicks in so many ways. However, Gwen just seems like a lame biter making these songs about Japanese culture and fashion. She doesn't pronounce Japanese correctly, seems like she is being very superficial in her interest. My only hope is people who are just now learning about japan will all by Utada Hikaru's new english album because they hopped on the japanese bandwagon too. It's nice to see Japan up in the mainstream american media though, so many people said I was wierd for so long and now maybe americans will catch on...finally...but actually I don't want them to. Trends in Japan move so fast, by the time american chicks try to dress like harajuku girls, there will be a new style in japan. Americans will never keep up because they don't really care about Japan. They just want the cool cell phones and anime. I think Gwen had a cool style before and she looks cute now as well. I like ND's music much better, this current Gwen stuff is wack. My only hope is, if Japanese fashion and culture become a new american trend, that real Japanese artists catch on and blow up in the states. Like Ayumi Hamasaki, Hitomi, Boa, Utada Hikaru, and Miki...ok I'm going to watch what Jennifer Lopez and Richard Geer did in their remake of a good Japanese movie, "Shall we Dance"...next up, Check out the Original "GRUDGE" called Juon, in Japanese. There is a part 1,2 and 3 by the way. Then take a vacation to Japan and experience Japanese culture for yourself. Girls, don't let your boyfriends go alone, they might never come back to you.

can I just say a few things to you TREX. I'm a Japanese girl and I would never go out with you if you like Ayumi Hamasaki...urgh. Plus the only Ju-On that is in any way decent is the original TV version with Chiaki Kuriyama in it. Harajuku fashion will never 'move on'. It will always be classed as Harajuku fashion as long as people wear crazy new stuff in Harujuku. Like there are always Gothic Lolitas in Yoyogi Park (sorry but I think that's a step too far personally). Like Lee-Lee said, most people in Japan think its funny. Was cool with all the Fruits stuff anyway. I agree with you that Gwens atempt is lame, mostly coz she pronounces everything wrong. HaraJUku, dur. God I would cuss her if I had my katakana keyboard. But its nice she takes an intrest in Japanese culture I guess. Its sweet of her. Oh and Sayuko you go girl. I can't type very good ramanization myself but yeah, Gwen is one crazy bitch like you said. Btw I love your name I wish I was called Sayu then I could call my kid Sayuko lol.

I'm a big Gwen fan and I'm a little mixed on this song. I don't like the advertisement stuff, but then again all hip-hop artists do it.
Case in point the new Snoop/Pharell video
"See these Ice Cubes, See these Ice Creams"(Ice Creams being Pharell's new shoe line with Reebok) so I don't take away her right to sell her shit in her music.
Also the people expecting deep lyrics in a POP album, that she stated was a POP album that she wanted to be fun and POP... you need to lighten up just a tad. Searching for meaning here is like Searching for meaning in a Pauly Shore movie.(hee hee props to the Clueless fans)
Let her do her thing, she was inspired by the Japanese culture, she likes Harajuku, She likes big shoes...and this is her solo POP album for the last time.
She'll get back to singing about how depressing life is a few months for you sad people that can only get down to music for slitting one's wrists.
Personally I just heard the album and I enjoyed it. It was a fun romp. True this is actually the weakest song on the album, but don't judge the entire album on one not so great song.
It is now on the The Leak at MTV if you want to form a more balanced opinion. If you still don't like it...ok that's your perogative. And if your mind is changed well at least you didn't bitch and gripe over one song about bouncy Tokyo chicks.

Alright, so the song wasn't the best. But that doesn't give you slugs the right to trash gwen to a bloody pulp. Leave her alone. She has worked hard to get where she is with the band and has managed to become a very successful and popular woman. I don't blame her at all for wanting to try something new on her own. It's her choice. And maybe the lyrics weren't the best, but if it's what Gwen wants to write about-- then let her do it in peace! You must remember that none of you were forced or even asked to watch this video so stick to your lame ass Yanni and get over it. So... plain and simply: if you don't like it, don't watch it!!!!!
GO BOTHER SOMEONE ELSE.
Gwen will always be a legend.

I don't get the outrage expresseed by the likes of Nicole. Nic and friends, please try to understand this:
We were invited by Stereogum to comment on the video. We're commenting on the video. Some like it, some don't. Seeing as Gwen Stefani released the video publicly, we have every right to comment on it publicly. Deal with it. If you want a place where no one will give an negative opinion about Gwen's latest video, go to her fansite or something.
You act like a negative comment about a multi-millionaire stranger's newest video is some sort of personal affront to you. Odd.

The song is ok... Definately not one of my favorites. I don't understand the obsession with the Japanese girls. I could see for maybe one song, but (hopefully) not all. I do like her voice though and I found alot of her songs that werent on the radio...awesome. I think thats the main reason I listen to her... Shes unique, not always on the radio(all her songs played over and over again when released), and she writes her own stuff..deep or not. When you write something, its nice to have fun and not always be so serious. She's basically picking things and writing about them and making them into songs. Thats not a bad thing.... I mean how many songs about love and relationships can you have? And I must say I liked her first solo single and I also liked "It's my Life" ALOT better then Britney Spears remake of Bobby Brown's song. At least she took a song that was kinda crappy in the 80's and made it sound good. I'm definately gonna buy this cd.
Score = 0
Well in Gwen's defense i must say...MAD PROPS!!! a true 80's fan that i am ,i can see and appreciate the rick james influences here..remanecent of "super freak" and the rebirth of obsessions with asian's in the 1980's i.e. david bowie's "china girl" and the vapor's "turning japanese".this song is fun and to be taken lightly...it's feel good music and gwen has not "gone superficial" and she does not have delusions of granduer..rather..she is making fun of it ,,and having fun at the same time.the beat is catchy and different then what weve been hearing the past few years (horrible music like britney spears,hillary duff simple plan,etc) pop was good in the 80's but got sucky as soon as new kids on the block emerged..bring back the good pop from the 1980's that had REAL punk influences and synths..AWESOME!

GWEN STEFANI BANNED FOR STALKING HARUJUKU GIRLS!
lol..im a big gwen fan...but...god gwen...why?? why?? I just listened to her cd on mtv.com and its just not what i expected. I mean she co-wrote almost all of no doubts songs and then she puts out this crap? Goddamnit!!!

This song is not the best work from her new cd. I heard the whole thing on mtv.com, some is downright terrible but some is great. I have to give Gwen mad props for being orginal, she manages to fuse different cultural and musical styles together. At least none of her songs have lil john or nelly on them.

Ok Yvonne, just for you. No, Im not japanese but I speak Japanese and I spent over 4 years in Japan and I go back at least once a year. Ok, so Harajuku is pronounced HA (as in HA HA) RA (sounds more like LA with your tongue on the roof of your mouth) JU (as in JEW) KU (as in KU KU for coco puffs). Japanese is pronounced pretty much as it is written, the language is phonetic. Not HAIR A JUKU. Not KA RA TEA. Not Carry O key (karaoke) Ke is not Key, KI is Key...Ok Japanese lesson over...

For Haruka, You don't sound Japanese from your words at all. Either you are US born Japanese or you spent way too much time around american teenagers. You wouldn't date me because I like AYU? Nandasore! Ayu ga itsumo kawaiiyo. Anyway, I prefer gyaru shibuya-kei types over harajuku girls and they love AYU and trance. Ayu's trance remixes were great. Since you brought it up, send your picture to my email so I can see how YOUR style is. Jya mata ne

I am a Harajuku girl, and I hate this song. My fashion is from Rock music, not dance music. If you want to know Harajuku style better, look up Black peace now, Baby the stars shine bright, h.naoto, or buy a gothic lolita bible. My Harajuku style is darker than her peppy Dance music, if she wants her song to connect better, she should sing about Shibuya style instead. I think she would cringe if I made her listen to Dir en grey's new single Saku. TREX, if you like gyaru, you are crazy, but that is ok, because I am a Harajuku cosplayer so everyone thinks that I am crazy, so they take my picture ^_^
And Harajuku, she pronounces it so badly, it hurts my ears.
its not HAR-AH-SHU-KU, its closer to HA-DA (or HA-LA)JYU-KU.
I know that most Japanese find us ugly and strange, so most of us, we look normal until we are in Harajuku, or Shinjuku, and we change in bathrooms while we are there. Whene we go home, we change back into normal clothes. It is rude to wear Harajuku clothes in places other than Harajuku. And embarassing, because everyone stares. Although it is hard to hide my purple hair, that is something that I won't change.
Score = 0
Okay TREX or whatever, I havn't spent any time around American teenagers or even in America because I'm English. I would class myself as English/Japanese because my parents are Japanese, is that explanation enough for you? You asked me whats that, why I wouldn't go out wichoo for liking Ayumi...because she's crap, and not in any way cute, that is why. I just don't like her, I know lots of people do though. Shibuya girls have more sophistication maybe but gyaru...na. Toboken ja nee yo. And how bout no, I won't send you my picture because you sound a little bit nurgh. Oh no okay, what's your email coz I mite do actually. Jya yurself, busu x x

Gwen has a different approach to what kind of music she wants to do. I know there is alot of haters of what she is doing but man give her a break. Just let her be. and the song 'Harajuku girls' is a compliment ok? She's embracing other styles other than LA style. Also you harajuku girls shouldnt hate on her, you should feel proud that your recognized. Enough said.

The song is up to par lyrically with Ru-Paul's "Supermodel" and the video is even cheesier than any drag performance Ru could ever envision. It's such a uselsess and un-timeless song that'll flutter away, evaporating in seconds much like most japanese trends as something inevitably better will come along. The Harajuku girls certainly do not need a spokeswoman like Gwen Stefani - way to contaminate subculture! Two Thumbs!

--- shame that she needs Japanese anime backup dancers... she was hot when she was in the mosh pit

Okay..I don't know what to think. I've been a No Doubt fan for years, and Gwen's my role model...and I am also obsessed with Japanese culture. However, I take Japanese and study stuff like that a lot, and, as people mentioned before, she pronounced things wrong (HAH-ra-JU-ku not hare-a-zhu-koo) And...I miss her deeper writing like on Return Of Saturn, or the old ska stuff, so I'm kind of disappointed :( And I also would be interested to know what actual Japanese people think of this...I'd play it for my japanese teacher as she grew up in Japan and stuff but I'd be too scared of her reaction, lol.

I think gwen is a visionary in both music and style. To me this song makes perfect sence. It's time for me to get my act together and shine for all the world to see and hear... and check out japon :) I heard the message loud and clear. Again, she has inspired me and got me going in the right direction. Gwen Rocks..

I haven't heard this one yet but I love WYWF and I have never even been a fan of Hers.
As for pronouncing things wrong, OMG what a crime She should be hung or maybe You people should just take some chill out pills, being in the UK it's a nice change to see a US artist not shove US style down our throats for a change.
Score = 0
Okay I'm Yuki and I live in the UK, I'm half Japanese. I dress Shibuya style too sometimes. I really liked the song What You Waiting For, but I don't like this one. Maybe the message that she's into Japanese fashion and that it looks cool could've been put to a better song. She could have thought of some more original, clever lyrics instead of name dropping maybe. But fans of Gwen have been saying she intended this record (Love Angel Music Baby) to be stupid and poppy. I'm sorry but I don't think she intended it to be bad like this though. I think the comment Haruka made was pretty good, she said that Harajuku style will never actually move on once attntion is not on it any more, it will just be the same. Another girl said she lived in Tokyo and she changed in a bathroom into her Harajuku clothes. Thats true of me, I probably wouldn't wear my style out of London. The style might go down well in America if it really catches on.
Score = 0
OMG,that song was weird. It takes a while but after listening to it for about 5 times it grows on you. I appreciate Gwen's reverance for Japan's street style, but i don't like this at all. I don't want it to go mainstream. And what's with America's obcession with Japan? I realize that this isn't anything new, because anime, videogame, and jpop otakus have been around since forever, but it seems like it has gone all mainstreme. What with America's recent obcession with Hello Kitty and Japanese horror movies, such as Ringu and Juon (aka the ring and the grudge). Plus i go to any bookstore and there are mangas. Mangas and japanese stuff used to be sooo hard to find but now go to Target and there'll be a whole bunch of sanrio stuff and anime DVDs.

Do any of you know the meaning of ironi??? This is really great. Why is it that always when a band member goes solo they get so much shit from many of their fans?It´s good that she wants to go forward and try something completely new.
Score = 0
Hmm I listened to HG and its not as good as WYWF but its not as bad as some shit that has been released lately (isn't like 90 percent of the UK charts garbage now anyway?) as for America's and other Western countrys new found obsession with Japanese culture I think it is just something new and different from the US overload we have been getting for years now, it probably wont last that long and I doubt it will go totally mainstream but its a rest from the norm so I think its okay IMHO.
A curious thought I had after reading a "Your not Maddona" comment, I wonder how many people would be calling Maddona a genious and kissing Her Ass if She released something like this?, I bet a lot.
Sure this music is hardly ground breaking stuff but IMO its just a bit of fun that isn't meant to be taken serious and besides if She made the same kind of music that She did with No Doubt what would the point of going solo be? and I bet She would still get ripped for not doing something different.
Score = 0
"Do any of you know the meaning of ironi???"
not sure if i'm aware of the meaning of "ironi," but i'm familiar with ironY...and ms. gwen doesn't have an ironic bone in her skinny-ass body. she wouldn't understand irony if that woman from 4 non blondes produced a song about it for her, and neither would you.
also, mark, if you're going to bring an entire culture to the mainstream's attention, you had best be pronouncing WORDS THAT ARE PART OF THE SONGS CHORUS AND ENTIRE POINT correctly. kind of disrespectful otherwise, don't you think?
Score = 0
It's definitely not the best, but it's not that shocking if you ever heard -some- Jpop. Not saying all Jpop is like that, but I've heard worse.
Oh well. Everyone has a bad song on their album.

I LOVE Gwen, and I LOVE this album. Im listening to it on mtv, the leak and I think its really fun. I also LOVE NO Doubt, and all of their albums, but I thnk its really cool that she took a break just to make something fun and light. No Doubt is the place for the deep stuff, and I think that its awesome that she had the strength to step away from them for a little bit and do something she wanted to do, for herself. For all those haters, relax, there is a time and place for everything. Love Angel Music Baby is just fun and happy, which Gwen intended. If you don't like dance music, then you dont like dance music. Cool, but dont trash her because thats not your type of music. I happen to think that this is an awesome DANCE cd.
Score = 0
Squeeky pop fancyness. Having listened to it on that MTV Leak thing, I likes it, though I think this track is the weakest.
It's ultimately quirky, electronic pop and nothing more. People who liked Goldfrapp's second album or whatever should get a kick out of it.
It can't be that bad a career choice, given that her single release is in the top five of both USA and UK iTunes charts. *hums.

ugh, I liked the What you waitin for song and thought that maybe I would be interested in her music because of it. Good god was I wrong. This song was horrid.....It's like all those Idiots who go out and watch three episodes of Dragon Ball Z and then think they are a fountain of knowledge for it!! I agree with the nihon-jin who made the comment about everyone knows kawaii....and baka for that matter, something that describes her that everyone can understand. I really thought I would like this, but it's a no. Also, what fashion is she trying to be??? If she's trying to be Gothic Lolita (It looks a little bit like that) than she is a disgrace!!! Lolita's would NEVER wear something like that!! I've got it, start tanning yourself and put on silver make-up. Gongura is your 'Harajuku girl' style......

all that aside that performance was . . .um . . pretty crap, she should stick to lip sync-ing when singing live lol though it sounds way better on her album, which is pretty good, i reckon. i think she'll bounce back anyway, she's still cool. :)

Not the best gwen move..Ive listened to it a few times, and it does tend to grow on you. I dont take it seriously..i think its a really cheesy pop song. Also, i agree about the way she prounounces harajuku..i mean...if she's such a big fan, shouldn't she know how to pronounce it? This is definately the worst track on her cd, however, there are some great tracks and hopefully those are the singles.

you all need to back off. Does wnyone remember when the double packed Outkast cd came out? "The Love Below" portion of the cd was trashed by everyone as stupid, weird and ridiculous. however after people took a good listen they relaized that the songs were tounge in cheek, meaning they were cheesy ON PURPOSE. The album is satirical. Oh, and as far as her pronouncing "harajuku" incorrectly, She's an American you idiots! I'd like to hear a native Japanese harajuku schoolgirl say "LA Juicy Couture" without a trace of an accent. The music isn't without it's flaws but it's a step in a whole new direction from anything else out there, real Gwen fans should be pleased. She has been what she has always been, creative, fun ,funky, and experimental.

You guys don't get it. She was being ironic. You don't get it because you are smalltown people with small minds.
Score = 0
This video is taken out of context. After listening to the 6 songs that come before this one on the cd you really are in the mood for Harajuku Girls. As for the cd, it is so goooood. Gwen makes everything seem so easy. She is the least hardest working person in show business. Gwen's not going to change your life, O.K. fair enough, but this music is much more kick ass than most pop performed by a female that is on the radio.
Score = 0
No, no no. If it's irony, or satire, it's not very good is it? How was she being ironic? She's not being particuarly 'ironic' by releasing an album full of pop songs. That's just what you call a 'change'. Why would you apply irony to the way Japanese girls dress? I don't have a small mind, or come from a small town, but I'm sorry, I don't like this song. I like her album, this song should have stayed on it. The only reason she released it is probably to get one more dance out of her little kogyarus and to show people that she's all up with street fashion.
Score = 0
That song was seriously bad. Kinda sad really cos she was onto a good thing with the whole Japanese/ Harajuku thing. LOL but anywayz, she was only experimenting with dance music, she'll probably be going back to rock in no time at all, i hope so anyway :oPe

I don't understand. She went to do a collaborative solo album and you all are pining for her to sing about Gavin? That's what she does with her band. She wanted to try something new, ex: not singing about relationships with past boyfriend Tony and now husband Gavin. The album is what it is. It is just supposed to be a fun, poppy, make you wanna dance album. Nothing more nothing less. Did you ever stop to think that maybe her lyrics being self absorbed is maybe her way of realising her own materialistic longings? Maybe it's her way of reflection and maybe of what she sees in others as well? It's a great album. I was highly surprised that I actually listened to it all the way through on the first spin. It usually takes me awhile to get into a CD and pick songs I like.
If you want deep, buy a CD that was meant to be deep. Not a CD meant to make you wanna just party and dance.
Score = 0
As much as I love Gwen, and love my L.A.M.B. bag, I cannot even pretend to like that song. I can deal with it when a band like Red Hot Chili Peppers puts the word "California" in like ten songs, but I'm about halfway through the Love, Angel, Music, Baby album (I DLed it 'cos I'm a cheap ass, and would have been pissed if I'd paid for this song) and she's said "Harajuku" twice OUTSIDE of this track. Maybe these asinine lyrics are such crap because the word doesn't actually rhyme with anything, except, sort of, "poo-poo".
Score = 0
P.S. The rest of the album's actually pretty sweet-ass...I'm not saying she'll win a literary award for her lyrical genius, but it's pretty fun anyway...
e.g. "The shit is bananas/B-A-N-A-N-A-S!"
Like I said, it's nothing Tolkien could have dreamed up, but listen and it's worth it. Laughed my ass off.
P.P.S. What implants? It's called a push-up bra. Even members of the A Team can do tricks with their "girls". Trust me, I'm practically the team captain!
Score = 0
I personally loved her performance. I'm a huge Gwen and No Doubt fan and I really enjoy her new attitude. She's more spontaneous than before and it's great. Once again, she is starting something new. A new American-Tokyo Pop? What's next from Gwen?
Score = 0
Anyways, the rest of her album is great and how can you blame someone for be an individual. She's always been like this except it's always been a little bit more toned down. Has anyone seen her with the PussyCat Dolls in '96 (I think) she dressed the exact with Carmen Electra as she did on this stage and she gave everyone a heck of a show. Gwen is great and she always will be. She's a designer and she's out there. Don't hate her for that. Anyone could make fun of you just for your actions and beliefs or the clothes you wear. Love you Gwen! You're the greatest!

I'll go out on a limb and say that I love the song. Bought it yesterday for my very long commute and when I first heard it I cringed BUT it's totally grown on me and I found myself getting pretty American Idol on it in the car. It's a fun song...if you're not in the mood, just skip the track and move on. And I agree that Gwen is actually making fun of high fashion.

Well after listening to the whole album I have to say it is pretty catchy, I would agree that HG is probably the weakest song on there along with Long Way To Go IMHO, it just doesn't seem to fit the tone of the album at all IMO.
But I do agree that those Girls being around Her all the time is a little creepy LOL.

Gwen seriously should have taken a break. Her stylist should be shot at close range (I must also mention that it is her stylist, not gwen, that designs those horrendous peices of garbage that she is passing off as accessories). This single is crap and the whole album is a letdown. so much for that.

Harajuku girls is one of the best songs on the album, and to be honest there aren't many. Yeah i respect her as an artist cause she's original and fun and experimental but I guess I just dont dig the 80's. Thankfully some songs are more influenced than others. I love What you waiting for?, Rich girl, hollaback girl, harajuku girl and i dont mind crash and bubble pop. But i cannot stand the extreme corniness of danger zone. ugh.
Score = 0
Most of the people here degrading Gwen already know the style of the 'Harajuku Girls' and fear that the ignorant masses are going to start dressing like her just because it's her and they think it's cool --they have no clue. They're not gonna dress like she does because they've gone and found out about the fashion and what it means. It'll be another dumb trend that will really piss off the people who knows what it's really about. And Yuki-Kana is right.....there are a LOT of people who should be walking around in Harajuku right now, but they unfortunetly live in America. I also agree with a Lot of the people who say 'if she likes teh Harajuku girls so much, why can't she pronounce it right????'
Score = 0
Why would you diss Gwen its a style of music!!! And if she wants to sing that way then sing like hell gwen!!!

I am so in love with that video, as I'm an Alice in Wonderland fanatic, but I too worry about the future of fashion in North America. Personally... I love making and wearing lolita outfits. And I understand harajuku girls. But what'll happen if I go from being the only Lolita at school to suddenly be swamped with them? 0_o Its like the punk-rock/gothic look... I think its going to be ridiculously overpopulated and the idiots who start it without realising will overshadow the smart ones.
Do alot of people even know what a lolita is? v_v

Please do not judge Gwens album upon this one performance. I actually enjoyed this performance. I bought the album 3 days before it's release and I cant stop listening to it, the stand-out tracks are HOLLABACK GIRL, RICH GIRL, BUBBLE POP ELECTRIC and WHAT YOU WAITING FOR? I think that this a must have album for all people with a fun, interesting and energetic taste in music. And please do not crucifie gwen just because she is experimenting with a new dirrection.
* does anyone know if she is going to have a tour?

Jesus christ. Who the hell cares if she likes Jap. clothes? Its sad to think that she didn't have anything else to write about. No one listens to music to get fashion tips--that shit is for the music video itself--people listen to songs to grab emotions, not to find out if the artist likes copying another culture's style, even if she is giving them props, wtf?
Maybe their bribing her to do this. I don't want to believe any self-respecting american--thats trying to SELL records--would put out something like that. The first song I heard by here "What You Waiting For" was alright...but this...is below anything I've ever heard before.
Score = 0
Responding to BA's comment. Why do you insist that people only listen to music to grab emotions? Is there some unwritten law as to what music can be about? Some people enjoy music that doesn't take itself all to seriously. The lyrics are silly but very refreshing. I give gwen props for venturing into such un-explored musical territory. If you dont like it, simply don't listen to it.

You know.... Gwen Stefani is very talented. She was great in No Doubt, and I absolutely adore her because she has made it as far as she has, and she's not all fake and slutted-out like Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, etc., and who cares if she "lip synchs", for Christ's sake? She's beautiful, she's a woman, which makes it even better, and she can SING! Oh my GOD she's a break through for many mainstream singers! It's HER choice, anyway! Don't be so closed minded. That's what your problem is. I LOVE Japanese culture--and I don't give a damn what you all reply to this, I really could care less, I just thought that you all should let Gwen breathe because she is trying something different. She is absolutely NOTHING like Madonna, that is an insult to her, that makes me sick. Shania "Twat" could never even compare to Gwen, they don't even belong in the same sentence together. Gwen writes her OWN songs, OWN music, and oh MY GOD GET OVER YOURSELVES!

Not what I expected from the title..
The lyrics would be okay if she actually had a beat to them. Needs more music in the background.
Love Gwen's shoes (yeah I'm slutty).
And the Harajuku style clothing would be awesome too if it wasn't for those tacky bows and well, grey uniforms. Besides, I thought the What You Waitin' For video was pretty cool with the make up and alice in wonderland theme. Much more original than the just 'standing there in a booth singing' videos that you see all the time.

Someone above complained about how many times she mentions "Harajuku" on the CD. She also mentions "LAMB" several times. Gwen is a marketing machine disguised as a pop singer to sell products. Her product isn't even this record, but hey, people pay to hear this long running advertisement about her "wicked style" merchandise. Stop calling her and artist and definitely don't buy this CD.
Score = 0
In order to understand the song, you must listen to her entire album about 10 times. Every single song mentions "Harajuku girls" in it, and most of them are cynical, sarcastic tunes that seem like they are making fun of EVERYTHING. Take notes, people... guh!

Gwen Stefani rocks out so hard core. I think everyone that bashes her here is being very narrow minded. Anything that you just love the minute you hear it is teeny boppy crap. Give it a second chance. When you first listened to The beacon street collections, did you automatically love it? Whatever...all of you are not true No Doubt/ Gwen Stefani fans. Go back to listening to Britney Spears and Spice Girls.

Well..firstly to all you over ex-fans, man you really need to get a grip. Stuck in your own little No Doubt Rocks rut you have failed to look at the new exciting music Gwen has produced in this new album. I mean come on, isn't that why everybody thinks Gwen is so great anyway SHE'S ORIGINAL and if you've mistaken that as a bad thing then more the fool you. Go back to listening to the Spice Girls for god's sake..and go and put a pair of slippers on while you're whithering by the fire too!! Grrr..

NO NO NO. I was never a No Doubt fan. I really liked What You Waiting For, despite the total patronization (sorry, read: compliments) of girls like me. This is just a step too far. I did not like the Spice Girls, and I do not like Britney Spears, but I'm sorry, I'm still quite within my rites to say that this song is fucking crap. It's not ironic in anyway, nor is it clever. You're insulting her yourselves if you think this is her level of irony, cinisism, satire, etc. It's not really the type of thing you'd make notes on either, to the person who made that comment...guh, whateva that means. If Gwen Stefani ever actually asked a Harajuku girl what they were wearing like she pretends to, they'd most likely laugh in her face and tell her to fuck off to get her own style. So cut the crap Gwen and release a song like Hollaback girl that all your American fans are going to understand and that is good.

I agree with Riya 100%. Oh and the Spice Girls? How old are you, 70? How bout you go back there yourself, and cut the 'hardcore' crap? So Gwen is venturing a little, give her some credit. The album is definately growing on me. A little old school even. She looks amazing! Sure the video was a little under budget, but it's still Gwen! Loving "what you waiting for",I'd like to see more videos like that!

I'd like to see that. I used to want to be a Yamanba when I was about sixteen but I've calmed down a lot now and am happy with my natural look. Gwen should be too, although it is nice to see she thinks Japanese street culture is cool. I just wish she's expressed it in a different way to this awful song though.

I have also been to Harajuku when I went back to Tokyo. It was a lot different from what I remembered when I was a kid, but Gwen doesn't know what it was like before. She's not making herself look like a stupid American girl infringing on their culture as some people are saying, but as a Jap (that is what I call myself by the way, usually to avoid cuss) I think she should choose a more mature style- she is getting on after all. I wouldn't class myself as an expert even though I worked in a shop and I liked the girls there. Shout out to Yasuyo, Natsuki and Megumi btw, even though you'll never read this site. They were so obsessed with fashion- I just found it all a bit much after a while. Maybe it was just me. Well, I think Gwen's album is good so maybe this song was just a dud...I much prefered the more understated references in WYWF and Rich Girl, but if thats as subtle as she gets, its not an ironic album. To the people that said it was, in the words of Gwen Stefani's possessed Harajuku girl in WYWF, WAKATTEN JANEE. Plus shut up.

I never liked anything she did with No Doubt, it came across as particulary crappy, but 'What you waiting for?' i actually have to say i like, although i was mainly swayed by the shoes. But this Harajuku girls thing i was particulary puzzled by, not so sure such a wise career move, but shes doing her own thing which is cool and i respect her for. And whoever mentioned something about the Spice Girls needs to get out of the 1990's. Ah yes on a different matter altogether i thought i'd add in Britney Spears is a publictity seeking whore, who will soon end up in rehab. A final note - The Cure are THE greatest.

It's aggravating that people can't grow up and just leave it alone. If you don't like it, dine, leave it alone. It just shows the moron on the inside trying to reach for other idiots. I love her new album, it's unique, a ride for your mind, if you will. It's fresh, and, personally, I've never heard anything so strange. In a good way though, I recommend it, and thankfully most of my friends love it as well. I love the Japanese influence of it. Excuse me "Stupid Aggravating 15 year olds....barely learning anything about any kind of culture....freshman of high school are the worst...." *winks* Watch, now I'll get lots of greif for that. And so what if you are Japanese? I'm latina, and I got hit on by lots of black people when the "J-lo and P-Diddy" thing was cool. Or as I tell my friends,Cry a river build a bride and get over it.

Hope I didn't give yu too much grief x x x

I think it's kinda sad that there's people that can't appreciate music. If you don't love it, you can at least admit that it's original (what other top 40 songs mention Harujuku girls) and that it made you think (because otherwise this debate wouldn't have started).Personally, it took a second listening (along) with the entire album until I started to love it. I've found with any album that if you like it the first time you listen to it, it won't stay your favorite. Listen to it for a few times, THEN, start to enjoy it, it'll last in your collection for life. The Spice girls comment was supposed to mean, go listen to something a little more "safe" that doesn't make you think. I'd heard of harujuku girls, but I had to look it up to learn more about it. I would never have learnt that if it wasn't for the song. Thanks Gwen for being awesome. Her sound changes and that's wicked. Why would you want to listen to someone that doesn't evolve?
Score = 0
Um, because even if it doesn't evolve, it'll still be better than this shit? I'm not Japanese, but to me it looks like she is pretending to look like she knows everything about their street fashion and culture when she doesn't. Plus according to the young Japanese-English girl who posted on here, she also fails miserably when she tries to pronounce the name of the style! I thought she had enough of her 'imaginary friend' dancers to tell her that? Plus the publishing company on her What You Waiting For single is called Harajuku Lover Music. Oh dear. How obsessed can you get?
Score = 0
WHOOOOOAH!?!? WHAT HAPPENED 2 YOU GWEN?!-
I just dont get it okaaaay....why this sudden crazed obsession over Japan??? ESPECIALY the Harajuku Girls(which she pronounced wrong), not that I hate Harajuku style, itz really kool.But its like why are there 4 robotic Japanese girls that dance with Gwen,show up in the backround at every interview with Gwen,....I mean, hell! I dont dig Gwens solo gig at all. Im not even a very big fan of No Doubt, to tell you the truth, but this is sooo bad. On Americas Next Top Model last night, they were in Tokyo, and they had to dress in Harajuku style. I dont know how that is really relevent, but what the hell. This is almost like the time KISS traveled with all of those midgets. Its just fucking weird.

Score = 0
Yeah, I agree, it's original to put Harajuku girls into a song here in America. BUT, pretending to know what the f*ck you are talking about is just another annoying trait. People who dress this Harajuku style don't want it to be a teeny-bopper trend cause some singer sang about it. Someone said ' I had to look it up for more info ' what is everyone looked it up and say ' hey cool!!! I wanna be a Harajuku girl too, and learn how to say more than just kawaii and pronounce Harajuku right!! ' Would these people do it because they thought it was cool, or because of what it really means? Take the style that you dress --What if people started dressing like you and because of your dress started to act like you and like all the same things as you, wouldn't YOU hate that???? You people who think her style is cool and new just need to understand the people on the other side of the fence. The only thing new and original about it is that it's an American singer talking about Harajuku style. There are plenty of people who were talking about it before -- but those people don't have an influence on others like that. Just please see the view of those who don't want her to ruin the Harajuku styles.
Score = 0
Actually I would be quite flattered if people wanted to dress like me. I looked up harajuku because I had no idea what it was, I have absolutely no intention of dressing that way.It's irritating how some people just do things to intentionally not be a part of the mainstream. If you want to purposely make yourself an outcast then change your style, don't tell other people that they can't take bits from it that they think are cool. That's what harajuku style is about to begin with. It's a sampling of different cultures to create something unique. Either way I doubt that this will be one of her US singles, Rich girls just started getting radio play, I think that her other choices will probably be Bubble Pop Electric,Crash,or Hollaback. They're better songs anyway.
Score = 0
shes singing about stuff that shes into right now, but totally exaggerated, just like her on stage costumes
her goal for this solo album was to make songs that people will dance to. the lyrics are silly and meant to be sung along to while you are dancing and having fun
this will not ruin her solo career at all
if anything all of these award show performances and online stuff is going to make her even bigger, just because most people think "if shes on every show she must be good"
there is soo much hype surrounding her, just over one single. you know a million people will be buying her cd and in a few months the used cd stores will be flooded with half of those.
i think you have to understand her to appreciate it.
if i was her, and had her resources and money, i would be doing the same thing as her : pretty much anything i want to, without causing harm to any individual.

I agree with Aiko. I don't dress Harajuku but I knew what it is before Gwen jumped on to it. If I did dress in that way, I would now be distinctely pissed off that some American singer had trashed it beyond all recognition with a stupid song like this. Anyway, what is she, 34? I think the 15 year old girl who got trashed by Meagan for just putting her veiw on here (when she had a good point, is actually Japanese and came back with a very good comeback) said that Gwen should be growing old gracefully. I think that is probably rite. Of course she can still have fun, and she's a cool person with her sense of individuality and style, but really Harajuku style is for Tokyo teenagers that get it.
Score = 0
I have lost all respect for Gwen, that song was in no way music, just her voice and some electronic noises. She rekons she's so indivudual, but come on! She's ripping off Debbie Harry, Marilyn Monroe and Alice In Wonderland! And the red lipstick does nothing for her, she looks like a drag queen dressed as Marilyn. She's of Italian heritage, why did she fight ner natural colour, I rekon she'd be sexier if she was a brunette. But Gwen, I think that Gavin has fucked with you one too many times
Score = 0
personally, i think she's doing a pretty good job with this album.. although.. the promoting of this Harajuku style is going a bit overboard.. (seeing as she makes reference to it in like.. 3 of her songs.. with one actually dedicated to it) i personally think that she's done better for herself by going solo.. i mean.. when she was in no doubt.. fuck i don't think i could even remember one decent song from that band.. but now with this album out.. i think that she's finally able to express herself in her own lil way. And by that.. i mean, if she wants to go around talking about prancing posers in Japan all day long, then let her. It's a nice thing they've got going over there anyway.. seeing i'm quite a fan of the Gothic Lolita and Harajuku styles myself (though.. dedicating pretty much a whole album to Harajuku will most probably make the whole "style" lose it's authenticity/uniqueness).
ahh.. over all.. i couldn't care less.. i like the song // so just keep on rockin.

Thank you so much for praising me Sayuko!!!! At least someone out there understands my sheer frustration.....dumb, dumb, DUMB, DUMB PEOPLE!!!! The only people who really deserve to rant on here about her style are the ones who wear it everyday!!! --Not you dumb people who say 'it's new and cool and i like it' Don't you agree??? You people just have no understanding of what we are saying....you really don't. And do you think we need publicity??? Ha! no. In Japan, they make lots of companies with lots of different things to give each person an oppurtunity to make something original. Here, what do you have??? A million stores with the same stuff....blah. And no, I wouldn't like it if there were a Japanese Fashion store here. It would be too easy for dumb people to get ahold of something they don't understand. --I would really not mind it if I were the only lolita in my area...I can say this: If she were just to wear the clothes because she likes them and understands them, that's fine. but she's not!! She's wearing them cause she think they're cool. And then she goes and makes a clothing line that's supposed to look like something from Harajuku, then she makes a million songs about it and carries those poor girls around and puts them in dreadful make-up.....she went too far!!! A good example would be Evanescence. While looking at pictures in a biography of them, I was interested in the way the singer dressed. I always have been really. After closer examination on one of her shirts, i saw h.Naoto Blood written on it. To those who don't know that's a Gothic Lolita lable. Now, does she rant about how cool it is or make songs about Harajuku or any of that other crap? no. I still think she looks a little Americanized, but that's her original twist on it. To those who understand, what 'harajuku' fashion do you think she is most like????
Score = 0
In the song, there is the line, "The subculture in a kaleidoscope of fashion." This would mean Gwen thinks Harajuku style is a subculture. I could be totally wrong, because I don't pretend to know everything about Japanese style like Gwen does, but I always thought Harajuku style was a bigger thing. I thought there were subcultures WITHIN Harajuku style, eg) gothic lolita, ganguro. Harajuku is a Tokyo district but I thought it was also just a broader term used for the types of fasion worn there? So maybe that stupid little prancing whore Gwen has got it wrong yet AGAIN, or I'm totally wrong and I should apologize to her. Please correct me if I am wrong, Aiko, Sayuko and all you guys who know what you're talking about. The songs crap by the way.

Oh sure Devon, so Gwen who is an American girl can wear Japanese style clothes better than me when I am a Japanese girl. Right. I'm so jealous of the 'stupid ho' I was being very nice before this... as nice as I could be about the song without totally dissing it anyway. I wasn't getting so wound up like some of the people defending her (btw you're all saying the same thing: oh Gwen's so great, she's so original, more than you could ever be) Well here's something you may not have noticed: she's not very original if she just copies another culture's style. Its very nice for her to admire it and compliment it...but for god's sake, please understand the meaning of the word subtle! I know Gwen's trademark of style, personality etc is being as unsubtle as possible, and that this also applies to Harajuku style. But she looked brilliant when she had her own, Gwen Stefani style. If she just put some good references in a decent song to show her liking for Harajuku style then I would find it cool. So she could just have said, look, isn't this Japanese type way of dressing nice- Instead of broadcasting it in a terrible, terrible song and making out like she knows everything about it just because she's got four whacked out back dancers. Before any one says anything, I don't claim to be any more original than her, have better style, or to be better songwriter (coz I'm not a song writer). No I couldn't have wrote this song, you're right- coz it'd be sound so fucking excrutiating I'd have to stop at the first line. Plus from the looks of it, a whole lot of people care that she hasn't got the 'specifics' of Harajuku style down. Actually they're not 'specific'- if she knew as much as she pretends to about it, then she'd make a bit more effort to get it right.
Score = 0
It's really sad how she totally objectifies Japanese girls and perpetuates stereotypes.. with that horrid American version of "geisha makeup" on L.A.M.b's faces. She's talked about having confidence issues in writing the CD, but I guess she got over it by deciding to have fakes of her idols (harajuku girls) bow down to her and cater to her whims. I can understand how she feels.. the harajuku girls and boys' styles are really intimidating, but Americans get so few images of this subculture (yes it is a subculture off of the entire world of "Fashion,", even if there are smaller subdivisions), that they think this is really what harajuku girls look like. Gwen has an impeccable sense of style when she is true to herself and designs for L.A.M.B., but the way she dresses up the girls and makes them behave is unforgivable.
Score = 0
After listening to the album a few times, I really like it. But I gotta stress that it was aFTER hearing it more than once. I'm more of a fan of hers now, than I ever was. It might do good for some to be more open-minded and/or not be so quick to judge & diss. Don't think Gwen's done anything bUT stay true to herself - even if that does mean a lean towards the Harajuku style & writing a song about it. She still tops my Fave Persons list.
Score = 0
TO Yuki:You couldn't have written this song, because your grammar is so appalling. I quote : "No I couldn't have wrote this song." Heh, heh. It really does sound like your jealous. You imply that artists aren't allowed to seek inspiration from other cultures and lifestyles. I remember arguments as lame as yours when Madonna released "Vogue."
Bottom line: Love, Angel, Music, Baby is a fun party record. The song "Harajuku Girls" and her performance of it are very entertaining. End of discussion.

It seems like she has worn that same outfit in every TV appearance she has made in the last month. Whats up with that? And not to mention that SAME pair of platforms. I know she can afford a few alternate outfits.

To Mark: doesn't your argument also seem a bit lame as it focuses on my not using a comma in a se Oh god, I left out a punctuation mark! On a webpage! Strike me down now! May I remind you that Gwen's grammer isn't that hot either on this song, and that she routinely mispronounces the word she is obsessed with. Oh yeah, and I really sound jealous, don't I? Of course, Mark, just keep telling yourself that. I just totally cussed Gwen Stefani down in flames but I'm jealous of her. I think you just said that to piss me off, that's what you all like. I agree with you that Love Angel Music Baby is a fun poppy record, but Harajuku girls is a lame patronizing song that should have stayed on the album.
Score = 0
By the way, I wouldn't say Vogue was my favourite song, but I can actually listen to it instead of having to cover up my ears when this piece of shit comes on. Difference between Madonna (and most artists that take inspiration from other cultures) and Gwen? Madonna didn't totally rip off the fashion she checked, she wore it in her own way. Plus she didn't recruit four little suicidally depressed but fashion- aware girls to follow her around everywhere.
Score = 0
Um actually Madonna tried to rip off the whole Hindu thing back in 98'. Just my 2 cents.

Aww, Yuki, Yuki, Yuki. I see your problem is that you're mildly restarded. You can't even spell grammar, let alone speak it. Shall I remind you that during the "Vogue" days Madonna was followed around my a number of gay male dancers, including two that she met at the Vogue balls in Harlem? Once you learn rudimentary English skills, I'd like to work on your pop culture history.
Score = 0
Mark does it make you feel better to flame someone about their grammer when it isn't their first language??? Well, whatever makes you feel superior...I'm sure Yuki still thinks you're an idiot...oh and btw, you spelled retarded wrong. heh, heh. If I were you I'd spend more attention on your typing when flaming someone else about it. And were talking about the song Harajuku girls. So most people on here don't know about Gwen other than that song, so please don't give us a history lecture on her....because we probably don't care. To the one who asked about what Harajuku fashion is -- To my knowledge Harajuku is a place, not a fashion. Harajuku is a place were people of different fashions can go and be accepted, a place to express yourself. There are many different fashions in Japan as in America. So don't feel stupid ^____^ To Yuki: keep going with your flame!!! I'm behind you 100%!!!

Mark, how do you spell "retarded?"
Yuki, if you loath "Harajuku Girls" so much, then why did you say that it should have stayed on the album?
Beavis, dont even get me started on Madonna and Kabbalah. What a joke.

I think that Yukki and Aiko are just mad because Gwen hired those other four Harajuku girls and not them, to follow her around and strut it in her videos. I bet they auditioned and were turned down. If they are so offended then why dont they take it out on the Asian girls that CHOOSE to be apart of Gwens freakshow and not Gwen? Yep, thats it. hahaha
