First I would like to start off by saying that I love gwen stefani and No Doubt, and I agree that this song is not exactly the best she's ever written. But Come on. It's one song.
You havn't heard any of the other new songs from her new CD, they could be way better than this. A lot of the time bands and artists release singles that you dont like, but the rest of the CD could be awesome. It's just your taste in music I guess.
Personally, I love the new song "What You Waiting For?" and have been anxiously awaiting the 23rd for the release of the album.
One other thing to remember is that the CD is supposed to be a "dance record" and probably won't have very strong lyrics. It's very rare that a dance song does have strong lyrics.
Just take it for what it is and get over yourselves. It isn't like you can make her stop doing what she is doing. So what if she wants to go solo? She is allowed to do what she wants. Go complain about Britney Spears or Hilary Duff or something. At least Gwen writes her own songs. While Britney spears gets other people to write her shit.

Maybe the message that she's into Japanese fashion and that it looks cool could've been put to a better song. Bought it yesterday for my very long commute and when I first heard it I cringed BUT it's totally grown on me and I found myself getting pretty American Idol on it in the car. I bought the album 3 days before it's release and I cant stop listening to it, the stand-out tracks are HOLLABACK GIRL, RICH GIRL, BUBBLE POP ELECTRIC and WHAT YOU WAITING FOR? I have also been to Harajuku when I went back to Tokyo. It was a lot different from what I remembered when I was a kid, but Gwen doesn't know what it was like before. She's not making herself look like a stupid American girl infringing on their culture as some people are saying, but as a Jap (that is what I call myself by the way, usually to avoid cuss) I think she should choose a more mature style- she is getting on after all. I wouldn't class myself as an expert even though I worked in a shop and I liked the girls there. Shout out to Yasuyo, Natsuki and Megumi btw, even though you'll never read this site. They were so obsessed with fashion- I just found it all a bit much after a while. Maybe it was just me. Well, I think Gwen's album is good so maybe this song was just a dud...I much prefered the more understated references in WYWF and Rich Girl, but if thats as subtle as she gets, its not an ironic album. I could be totally wrong, because I don't pretend to know everything about Japanese style like Gwen does, but I always thought Harajuku style was a bigger thing. I totally dig this new album. It's much better and original than the same R&B/Hip Hop repetitive crap that is out there. And I also see Gwen's direction sort of like a student of Madonna's. Don't get offended people, but having witnessed Madonna's career and style from the beginning, I do see some similarities. Gwen has a unique style, with a dash of Madonna inspiration....and thats OKAY cuz she WORKS IT! Harajuku Girls is an awesome song.....as well as the majority of the album....I usually skip trakcs 4, 5, and 6...but listen to them sometimes. I was confused as to what Harajuku meant....I know it's a place in Japan. I was told, but not sure, that Harajuku is another word for "drag"....which lead me to believe perhaps Gwen is singing about drag girls a.k.a. in America as Drag Queens. That would make more sense to me than hearing ALL girls from Harajuku are what Gwen is referring to in the song.
And someone posted something on here as to what the beginning melody of Harajuku Girls reminds her of. I'd have to say the beginning is similar to the beginning of Madonna's "Papa Don't Preach"......

Funny how most people who have been positive about Gwen's new image are offensive to those who dont like it. Defending it with "you suck" and "you can all go to hell" really isnt intelligent, and just shows that you're being so defensive that it's idiotic. Personally, I like the whole Japanese fashion, I think it's interesting, and the idea of having her 4 Harajuku girls was fun in the beginning, but now it's just obsessive and boring. Okay, so I haven't seen the video yet because AOL Vidoe is a b****. But I know this:
1) Gwen is unique. Just like everyone else is. No offense but it's true. She may be a little bit ecentric...but I really like that she has found herself and what she likes. I doubt she cares what other people think of her music. (to a certain degree of course..she's got to make money)
2) All of the lyrics on her solo Cd are based on what she feels, sees, and experiences. Therfor they are awesome, because she is singing about what she knows and likes.
3) "Harajuku girls" ais a greta tribute to the culture. How many times have you heard of a harajuku girl before Gwen? And even though it may not shed proper light, she states that she is their #1 fan. Lats time I checked most fans don't know EVERYTHING about a culture. EVen if they love it. I think she just visted the district while on tour or something, made some friends, and became really inspired.
4) The LAMB girls are not annoying. Since when did background dancers become annoying? That's all they are: really cute, well-themed background dancers.
5) About this whole get back with the band stuff... They all wanted to take a break. Gwen wanted to do her own thing. leave it at that. She was no better or worse with the band. Her videos are still on TRL contantly, so she seems to be doign well. I know she got a bigger "gay" crowd with this CD, so that probably helped.
6) And I don't think she's making Japan look bad at all. If anything she's making people more interested in parts of the culture. Even if she's "doing it wrong."

Sure, she was a lot better with No Doubt. But think of it this way, try to put yourself in her shoes. She just left her best friends, the band members from No Doubt, and this is her very first time going solo. I'm sure you'd be a little nervous about that too. True, this song does pretty much suck.. but the tune is catchy, and she's just trying to get used to her new posse.
Just give her a little bit of a break. Gwen herself is a wonderful performance; most of us have seen that in her No Doubt career. Besides, she was the only one singing in that band also.

This is sick, tragic, disgusting explotation of a people and of a subculture. I have loved No Doubt since I first heard them when I was in like 5th grade, but this is inexcusable. Just because you like No Doubt or think Gwen Stefani is the singular most talented female artist of our time does not excuse her blatant female explotation. She's becoming worse and worse, first exploiting her own body and now the bodies of other young women, as well as an entire subculture. I went to Japan two years ago for a month, and you can definietly get caught up with the fashions on the streets of Tokyo or Kyoto, but this is ridiculous. Why can't any of you GWEN fans like her music, but hate what she has done? I refuse to support her latest musical efforts, it's too insulting to me as a woman, a feminist, and a writer.
