Handsome Franz Modeling School

The first Handsome Boy Modeling School album is one of those CDs that sits on my shelf and never, ever gets played. I don't regret checking it out, but the Get A Life references got old real quick.

Despite their Chris Elliott fetish, I like Prince Paul and Dan the Automator as Nathaniel Merriweather and Chest Rockwell. They're always up for interesting collaborations. Here's the tracklisting for their forthcoming White People LP:

Look at this face!1. Intro (featuring Father Guido Sarducci)
2. If It Wasn't for You (De La Soul)
3. Are You Down With It (Mike Patton)
4. The World's Gone Mad (Barrington Levy, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Alex Kapranos)
5. Dating Game (Tim Meadows)
6. Breakdown (Jack Johnson)
7. It's Like That (Casual)
8. I Am Complete (The Hieroglyphics)
9. I've Been Thinkin' (Cat Power
10. Rock and Roll (Could Never Hip Hop Like This) Part 2 (Mike Shinoda, Finesse, Jazzy Jay, Grand Wizard Theodore)
11. Knockers Skit (Tim Meadows)
12. The Hours (Chino Moreno, El-P, Cage)
13. First . . . and Then (Dres)
14. A Day in the Life (Mars Volta)
15. Good Hygiene (Tim Meadows)
16. Greatest Mistake (John Oates, Jaime Cullen, Paula Frazer)
17. The Runaway Song Part 2 Remix (Kid Koala)
18. Outro

Yes, they asked Tim Meadows to do The Ladies' Man on their album. They have terrible in taste in comedy! Otherwise, very cool line-up.

Dan talked up "The World's Gone Mad" to Rolling Stone last month:

"We have Del tha Funkee Homosapien putting it down for the hip-hop and Barrington Levy holding it down for reggae and Alex from Franz Ferdinand doing the rock thing. But the album's not about every kind of genre of music in one song -- it's more about handsomely visiting different types of music."
Enjoy the handsomeness.

You're crazy, GET A LIFE rocks! I still love you though. And you're right about the ladies man.

Huh!?Wha?! "sits on my shelf and never, ever gets played"?! Don't fail me now stereogum, we were doing so well. the first HBMS album is teetering on classic status in the hip hop scheme of tings. & Get A Life is a definite classic for comedy geeks.

get a life resets aside, i like parts of the album-- especially the track with DJ Shadow, "Holy Calamity". That shit was hot. And the promotional video they sent out to radio stations was hilarious.

Is the John Oates on track 16 the same John Oates of "Darryl Hall and..." fame? Because if so, then props to HBMS. Nobody ever picks Oates.

Wierd... I had heard from a somewhat reliable source that there was supposed to be a track featuring both Busta Rhymes and Leanne Rimes, to be called "Rhymes on Rimes"... pardon my spelling.

It sits on your shelf??!??!!? Sorry to say, but that is a big mistake. Outside of the cheesy jokey stuff--which does get tiring--it is one of the best hip-hop discs to come out in years. Prince Paul and Dan the Automator are simply great at what they do.

For "every kind of music in one song" I recommend Virginia's own CROTCHDUSTER - www.crotchduster.com - easily my Album of the Year 2004.

bless you, scott stereogum for putting up the new handsome track.

and you're putting a great cd to waste with the first one, but then again, we'll have got that one cd somebody else loves that we never listen, so i understand.

Ooh! I see thee are a fan of Lovage: Music to Make Love to Your Old Lady By by Dan the Automator with Mike Patton and Jennifer Charles.

My obsession with Mike Patton knows no bounds. So good to see this! Thank you!

Handsome Boy Modeling School actually hosted and mixed the Fall 2004 Atlantic Records sampler, and it turned out pretty well, regardless of the constant and never-ending clips of Zoolander and Chest Rockwell saying "That is decidedly handsome of you" over and over. Oh, and "Being handsome means never having to say you're sorry."

I'm not sure how I feel about Hansome Boy Modeling School. There are a few songs of theirs that I love (See "The Truth") but they kind of rub me as semi-corny.

You're nuts. The comedy on this disc is classic Prince Paul, reminds me of 3 Feet High and Rising. That bit with RZA on the dating game had me on the floor.

Also, rhymes from Casual, Heiro, etc...this is a great CD to introduce somebody to hip-hop.

This album is great, as well as the first. Guido is a funny funny man. Tim Meadows get's old, but is still humorous. Del puts it down with Barrington Levy, that is a great track. This is well worth it.

I was wondering in the coming months before hansome boy came out why the hell it was called white people. Now i know, because they got a bunch of wet-behind-the ears singers to come out on some raw beats and really make it happen. This is something never done before, i dig the concept album fo sho. Limp Bizkit better get on their knees, this is how you collabo.

I am trying to get in contact with Nathaniel Merriweather and Chest Rockwell. With my 8th grade art students I have created a music video to the track "Holy Calamity". I would like to give them a copy of this video, but I am having difficulty contacting them.

Please email me with any contact information:
