Harvey Danger Call It A Day The Seattle band says "the decision is totally mutual and utterly amicable." Farewell tour dates are here. Wonder if they'll play this song (they will) or if Geggy Tah will open (fingers crossed).

I honestly didn't know those guys where still around... or that they have other songs besides that one!
I seriously hated Summer of '98. So many one-hit wonders were produced that year. Fastball, "Sex and Candy", The Verve Pipe, "Closing Time", that Our Lady Peace song... eeek.

you're right - i should kick the twelve year old version of myself's ass for being so musically misinformed. you're only talking about the best period of mainstream radio in my lifetime, what spawned every now-twenty-something-hipster-void-of-a-musically-savvy-older-relative's appreciation for, and taste in, music today.
long live flagpole sitta! long live semi-charmed life, and closing time, and the freshman, and possum kingdom, and inside out, and the impression that i get, and the distance, and song 2. et cetera.

Dude! I totally forgot about Eve 6.
My point was that those bands only had one hit that was shoved down the throat all the time and then basically disappeared. There were also other smash hits like Goo Goo Dolls "Iris", and Matchbox Twenty broke out during that time. Most of those bands just kept dragging on or didn't have material for it.
And mind you, Third Eye Blind does not belong in that group (neither does Blur) because they had How Is It Going To Be, Jumper and even that awful first single of their second album, Never Let You Go, had success. I was actually 14 back then, and those were the times when I was really getting interested in music.

Sean Nelson's a hell of a songwriter, and by all accounts a good guy. Wish him luck in whatever he ends up doing. The rest of the band can go fuck themselves. ;-)
Score = 3
I saw Sean Nelson open for Fountains of Wayne, and it was worse than sitting through a worship band at a High School Youth Group.

I thought they announced this several weeks ago...

I saw their "last show" the first time around, except then it wasn't intentional and John Roderick was "touring guitarist". Fun stuff, nice guys, hope Sean's plate remains full and fruitful.

Good riddance. I blame them and Natalie Imbruglia for killing commercial alternative radio in '97-'98.

that video on the link is so ace

Killing commercial alternative? Bit of an oxymoron, isn't it? Commercial alternative produced some decent one-hit wonders but it never should have existed to begin with. Because now all most modern alternative radio plays is Hinder, Nickelback, or some other band that wants to sound like a cross between Ten-era Eddie Vedder and the heavier side of Alice in Chains while not maintaining any of the talent of those two aforementioned acts.

My favorite one hit wonder of the 90's, but that doesn't do them justice. They produced 3 solid albums, which is one more than Weezer could manage.
Score = 2
I think Radiohead was probably the best one-hit wonder of the 90s.
Either that or the Flaming Lips.
Score = 1
Obligatory post pointing out you can still get the amazing third Harvey Danger album for free at http://www.harveydanger.com
They are one of my favouriet bands and I am sad that they never played a show on my side of the Atlantic.
Score = 2
"Wonder if they'll play this song (they will)"
i caught them at the mercury lounge a few years ago & they actually didn't. i think they knew that the crowd showing up to a harvey danger show in 2007 was comprised of actual, you know, FANS who would be happy to hear just about anything they played.
but that was a noble attempt at making some of that wonderful indie music blog snark we see so little of nowadays. my hat is partially tipped to you, sir!
