Heroes Taps Wilco, Death Cab, My Morning Jacket, The Jesus & Mary Chain For Soundtrack

Heroes doesn't normally give us a lot of reasons to mention it, as pop music is rarely incorporated into their scenes about staving off the apocalypse. There was that one time where some girls were double-dutching to M.I.A.'s "Boyz" (before Kala became the Reminder of dance music) but that hardly seemed worth a post. Usually the deepest we go with the show here is when Peter Patrelli turns up in Fergie videos.

But apparently none of that really matters when it comes to compiling the show's soundtrack, because it's hella cool and hella full of stuff that has absolutely no connection to the narrative (okay, Bowie's "Heroes" is a logical inclusion). The key question for OST compilers these days seems to be "what will make us appear cooler" -- and in Heroes' case, they've succeeded here, most notably scoring the Jesus & Mary Chain's first studio recording in a decade ("All Things Must Pass") and a new and exclusive tune from Wilco, "Glad It's Over." That's in addition to previously unreleased tunes from Imogen Heap, Brighton Port Authority (feat. Iggy Pop), and Panic At The Disco, as reported by Billboard. To throw more coolness at you: there's a tune from the Chemical Brothers (feat. Spank Rock) and oldies from Dylan, My Morning Jacket, Death Cab, the New Pornographers, do you really need us to go on? It's out 3/18 on, what else, NBC Records. Check the tracklist:

01 Wendy & Lisa - "Heroes Title"
02 Wendy & Lisa - "Fire and Regeneration"
03 Brighton Port Authority (Feat. Iggy Pop) - "He's Frank"
04 The New Pornographers - "All for Swinging You Around"
05 Wilco - "Glad It's Over"
06 Nada Surf - "Weightless"
07 Panic at the Disco - "Nine in the Afternoon"
08 My Morning Jacket - "Chills"
09 Wendy & Lisa - "Natural Selectio"
10 Shelia Chandra - "ABoneCroneDrone 3"
11 Imogen Heap - "Not Now but Soon"
12 Death Cab for Cutie - "Jealously Rides With Me"
13 The Jesus and Mary Chain - "All Things Must Pass"
14 Wendy & Lisa - "Homecoming"
15 Bob Dylan - "Man in the Long Black Coat"
16 Yerba Buena - "Maya's Theme"
17 The Chemical Brothers (Feat. Spank Rock) - "Keeping My Composure"
18 David Bowie - "Heroes"
19 NBC - "Now Will You Watch Our Show You Fucking Hipsters?"*

Why does it have a bunch of songs that have nothing to do with the show, and not have the Rogue Wave song that they've used at least two or three times?

wait, did you just use the words "coolness" and "Panic at the Disco" in the same sentence? are they even really a band?

So wait... I'm confused... were these songs in the show, or were they not? It's a pretty great soundtrack, nonetheless.

Brighton Port Authority is Norman Cook. And the song is a Monochrome Set cover. I wrote about it when the show it appeared on aired...

"Heroes needs to really step its game up, the second season/chapter was mad weak."

It got REALLY good right when it ended, though.

I believe they picked songs which will remind fans of their favourite scenes. "Weightless" is obvious, "Keeping My Compusure" being Peter trying his darndest not to blow up, and so on.

I'm also a little confused as to why Rogue Wave's 'Eyes' isn't on there, since it was pretty much center stage in their pilot episode and used another couple of times after that. Weird.

Honestly the only song I remember being in the show was The New Pornographers playing on the radio in the background at a cheerleading practice somewhere in the second season.
