Hives Show Inspired "Hey Ya!"

From the new Rolling Stone (Dylan cover):

RS: Was there a show that changed your life?

ANDRE BENJAMIN: I wouldn't say it changed my life, but a while ago I flew to New York just to see the Hives. My flight was late, and I didn't get to see but the last twenty minutes, when they played every song I loved. At one point they were jamming so hard, and then right on cue they all stopped. They held their post for at least a minute. Nobody moved, sweat was dripping and they were like statues. They didn't have to play shit, and the crowd was going crazy. When they cranked it back up, the show went to a whole different plateau. The crowd went nuts, nuts, nuts! I wouldn't have written "Hey Ya!" if it weren't for the Hives.

RS: Are you with me on this: "Hey Ya!" is the best song of the twenty-first century?

ANDRE BENJAMIN: Jesus. I don't know, man. That could be argued by a lot of people.

RS: Can you think of anything better?

ANDRE BENJAMIN: No.

Just as I expected. If it wasn't for Fagersta this rap shit probably would never be going on.

Asking Andre if Hey Ya is the best song of the century? Now that's just stupid.

The Hives have inspired everything cool throughout history- past, present and future.

I was at that show. It was at Bowery Ballroom, I believe in June of 2002. My friend stood next to Andre at one point & said he had on a platinum blonde wig, huge sunglasses, and what looked like body armor. And it was really that spectacular. One of the best shows I've ever seen.
