I tried to decide between getting their new CD or Annie's DJ Kicks.

Can anyone help me decide, since I really want to hear both but I only have money for one?

I like how different this new album is compared to the first. It's good to see bands try different things and not just roll out the same thing over and over.

Great album.

Does anyone else agree that there is an increasing likeness to Coldplay?

Again, great album.

I dunno, I think the shins comparisons are pretty strong myself. But, yeah, the entire album is pretty damn good.
I am curious about the DJ kicks too - but I doubt it will have the cohesiveness that the Rogue Wave has.

Publish My Love. It's a song I didn't think they could play.

I'm not crazy about this album. It alternates between annoying (10:1) and cheezy (Publish my Love) I liked their first better.

i think "you" is the best song on the album. or 'bird on a wire'. one of my favorite records of the year.

The record's a little too predictable for me. There's no shortage of bands that sound like this right now so the bar's a little higher than usual, as far as I'm concerned, and Rogue Wave err a little too much on the safe side for my liking. Also, I'm not sure how they feel about being compared to the Shins, but the album's cover art leads me to believe they welcome it.

i am tormented by whether steve's post above is a joke or serious. is is a weird feeling...like a cat's eye in tic.tac.toe. it makes my head hurt because...i think he is being serious...i have just realized that in liklihood the one issue that probably divides the stereogum fans right f'in down the middle is whether coldplay sucks or not...its the "infinite loop" of indie rock.
then again, maybe i picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue...

I'm with Josh, this album doesn't hold up to the first and is a touch on the predictable side. It's got some great cuts, and almost has the depth of the first but the songwriting is Rock-by-numbers at times.

Still, the departure is welcome welcome. 10:1 is killer. There live act is great so I would !highly! recommend you check them out.

I have to say I was quite blown away by this album. I liked their first one quite a bit, but was a little unimpressed because of the so-obvious Shins comparisons. This one is much more mature, and much more enjoyable to me. I missed them last time through Ann Arbor when they were playing with Fruit Bats (would have been a great line-up), but will have to check them out when they come through later next month.

i wanted to like this a lot more than i actually do.... i loved their 10:1 EP, but the full length album seems pretty weak.

LOVE IT -- the CD's a natural progressional from the first - and you can totally tell that Zach had a real band this time around (it's more grown up sounding). That said, I totally miss the quirkiness of the last CD, it's really only there on one or two songs on this one.

I saw Roguewave when they hit DC 2 months ago with Fruitbats and Chad Vangaalen.

The show was at the blackcats second much smaller stage and created this really awesome intimate vibe.

Roguewave is really good live, and their drummer rules has huge afro, and sings great back up (and from the small town in Ohio where I went to college). Plus Chad Vangaalen was on stage singing and playing the Tambourine with Roguewave for the whole set.

that said, I do enjoy their more rocking songs like 10:1 better then their slow stuff. But regardless they are very enjoyable.

The Shins comparisons were perhaps true, for the future of Rogue Wave during their first album. Not now. I compare them to Coldplay with "Descended like Vultures" because they've refined themselves to that all too agreeable state. Who doesn't like good Coldplay ringing in their head? But it also seems horribly vague and trying to cover all so much, so you're left with a big generalization.
