Idol Weeds Out A Pot Smoker

Count us among the 350 billion people that can't seem to stop watching American Idol. Last night's San Antonio episode was the final audition edition, and it was full of the usual mix of strangled cats and Idol ready pop stars. But we took a particular shine to one of the final contestants, a kid named Akron Watson who, after being given the "you lack charisma" treatment from Cowell, slammed it with a buttery smooth "Let's Get It On." Remember him? The one with the tone deaf, hammed-up-exit-for-the-camera cousin:

As you can see, Akron got his golden ticket. Until the AI folks stripped it! Via TMZ:

Watson, whose San Antonio audition aired on last night's "Idol," was arrested in April 2003 for misdemeanor possession of marijuana, according to court records obtained and posted by PegasusNews.com. He was headed to Hollywood after impressing the judges with his singing, and his story. But Watson tells Pegasus News that two days before he was scheduled to leave for Hollywood, he received a call saying that he would not be competing anymore "for unknown reasons." "Idol" producers did not comment on their withdrawn invitation.
Come ON. What's a misdemeanor, a dime bag? An eighth, maybe? That's a sorry ass rule, dawg. Anyway, Akron isn't taking it sitting down; BWE points us to myspace.com/BringAkBack, where you can register your displeasure in the comments. Plus, he provides his phone number. Just in case.

If you want to be an American Idol, act like one.

Because pop stars don't use illegal drugs.

Is he related to Akon?

Anyway, weed is a hell of a drug - some real dangerous shit. I once knew someone who smoked like three fat blunts in the same day. And then I think he drank like two forties and passed out. On the couch, even!

I think the rule is that you get booted if you have an arrest record but don't TELL them about it ... not simply because you've been arrested.

Good. We need to punish all those disgusting pot smokers in this country. I'm so glad he at least had something important to him taken away. Nasty bastard. God, I just wish the legal consequences were actually SERIOUS for possession >:(
