Inside The Rockers Studio: Grizzly Bear

We know these Inside the Rockers things are getting old, but they're an excuse to talk about bands we like and, in case you haven't noticed (or read on banner ads), Stereogum thinks Yellow House is going to be one of your favorite albums of the year. You guys dug "Knife" and "On A Neck," so we're psyched to be the first to share with you this link to the full album stream!

We've been long-time fans of Grizzly's textured, time-shifting acoustic confections, but they've exceeded our highest expectations with the upcoming record. We've also been long-time fans of Chris and Dan's attempts to pose like NME buzz bands.

This fall they're teaming up with TV On the Radio on the "Tour Of Brooklyn Bands That Just Released Career Defining Albums." But before they take off on that trek, New Yorkers can catch GB at their first ever Bowery-headlining gig on 9/26. Get your tickets right here. It's gonna be a party (of heartbreaking, off-kilter folk).

To tide you over 'til then, we present singer/guitarist Ed's deepest and darkest confessions.

EDWARD DROSTE, GRIZZLY BEAR
1. What is your favorite word?
CORNUCOPIA

2. What is your least favorite word?
TWEE

3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
BOYS

4. What turns you off?
UPITTY-NESS

5. What is your favorite curse word?
TUSSIE (GERMAN FOR BITCH)

6. What sound or noise do you love?
PAPER CUTTER

7. What sound or noise do you hate?
THE TINY SOUND/FEELING YOU GET WHEN YOU PICK OUT THE SYNTHETIC COTTON FROM A BOTTLE OF PAIN KILLERS.

8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
WRITER

9. What profession would you not like to do?
JAIL WARDEN

10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you
arrive at the Pearly Gates?
"I'M REALLY PUMPED THAT YOU ARE FINALLY HERE."

Yellow House hits stores tomorrow (Amazon | iTunes). That "Knife" video is gonna be so fuckin' weird we can't wait.

sorry guys, but you're not first ones sharing that link at all. in fact, it's just the audio-player offered by music-store bleep.com.
give it a try: it's pretty easy integrating it into your site in case you use iframes...

why don't you check out niobe's latest, "white hat"?
http://www.bleep.com/current_item.php?selection=TOM72_DM"?

bleep offers easy streaming tools ("web tools" as they call it) for nearly every hot album around at the moment, plus you can use them on your site. problem is that they are using iframes to do so and through iframes, you can easily submit nearly every code you want, so watch out... ;-)

is there a reason for the interview does it have to do with the banner ad on the top of the page.. a little added value perhaps.

and why aren't you talking about Beck's Nausea being a sped up version of Morphine's Buena

You got a scoop? maybe being flown somewhere?

The singer for Grizzly Bear was originally in a band named department of eagles. The GB stuff seems like a watered down version of his old material. I think it was because of his partner being a bit of a muse.

The Department of eagles still exists, they have a website (it's just there name: www.departmentofeagles.com)

Yes they still exist - but with only their first ep and album released..and the singer from grizzly bear on indefinite hiatus from department of eagles. It's unclear if the other member of department of eagles will make an album without him.

Okay, the way it works is this: the first Grizzly Bear album featured no members of Department of Eagles. Then Grizzly Bear added two new members, including Dan, who's half of Department of Eagles. On Yellow House he sings, plays guitar and writes songs. If you listen to the Department of Eagles album you can hear some similiarities. DOE are still together, although I'm sure Dan's quite busy these days with Grizzly Bear. The Department of Eagles website is: www.departmentofeagles.com

Department of Eagles are still together, though Dan is obviously pretty busy with Grizzly Bear. But DOE has put together a few new tracks that can be found on their myspace page: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=69036797

Hallo!
