Everyone should just buy this. Upon first listen-thru, I think it's kind of a melting pot of the ferocity of Dig Me Out, and the harmonies of The Hot Rock. It's big, it's loud, it's really good.

This leaked so long ago, I forgot all about it. It rocks insanely. I love this record (hate the Pitchfork, agree with Kat). And thanks to the leak, the offical release is packaged with a live DVD. Here's to more leaks leading to value-added official releases.

Sleater-Kinney is a great band. I really don't think that they sound like PJ Harvey at all (if you were referring to "Dry".) Well, of course, that's all a matter of opinion. It's too bad that you won't give them a chance. They have many wonderful songs.

Agree that they are overrated. Have given them several chances and just can't do it. I'd take the sadly departed Mclusky over the Nirvana meets the Go-Gos ravings of Sleater-Kinney any day.

I've got this album on order, and am very excited to hear it. I know it's very fashionable to bash Pitchfork when you're a stupid indie snob, but I just don't understand you people. Apparently some critic on the site (you do know that different people write the reviews, right?) bashed some band that you like, and now it's a mortal grudge. Pitchfork is the best and most dependable indie music site on the Web, and that's the end of the story.

There are dozens of excellent bands that I never would've known if it weren't for them. Their reviews are, for the most part, excellent. Are there some that suck, and ratings that piss me off? Of course. Their obsession with shitty folk music continues to fascinate me, and their underrating of just about every UK band is irritating. But it's just like any reviewer, you're bound to disagree sometimes. Get over it.

There are much better sites than Pitchfork--Tiny Mix Tapes being one of them.

That said, the new Sleater-Kinney is fantastic, P4K review aside. I got a copy a few weeks ago and it blew my mind. I'm not big on Sleater-Kinney--they're an alright band, but this album is definitely a keeper and then some.

I gave sleater-kinney a shot...it reminded me of when I was eleven and like "punk music". Seriously it was terrible...I saw a video for their new single on the wedge and they just stood there, looking disinterested in the instruments they were holding. Was it supposed to be 'cool' or 'hot'? Cuz I didn't feel it. It was total fast paced power chord trash. Yet pitchfork sees it as the second coming of christ. how unfortunate.

The real thing that irks me about any music publication is that only people who can afford a publicist or are on a label that has one can get into a lot of those zines, both print and web. What this is implies is that a lot of middle class indie rockers are not getting any attention. Crazy theory? Only if you ignore the trail of breadcrumbs. But the unfortunate fact is that basically all or the most of the most talented musicians and songwriters I know are complete unknown because they have to work 9 to 5 and cannot afford booking agents, publicists, or promoters to help them out. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with wealthy people doing music, but you have to realize why you hear about some bands and why you don't hear about others. It just bothers me that these magazines just sit and wait for p.r. packages and industry buzz to float through their transum instead of actively seeking out new music that maybe doesn't have that kind of promotional muscle and those kinds of connections. End communicae.

The 'Fork review is a bit lacking and apparently wasn't fact checked...getting some release dates and 'who sings on which song' details wrong. Can't say I disagree with the 9.0 though....haters will hate, but The Woods is an incredible record.
