Is Pitchfork The New Rolling Stone?

I'll let you know after this CMJ Panel...

Press Play: Rediscovering Music Journalism Online
Is Pitchfork the Rolling Stone of its generation? How did the small community of music blogs suddenly emerge as the hot place to discover new sounds? Has the print media dropped the ball, and if so, is music journalism's future to be found online? Moderator: Will Hermes Spin, Tracks Panelists: Scott Plagenhoef - Managing Editor, Pitchforkmedia.com; Matthew Perpetua Fluxblog; Mark Willett - Contributer, Music For Robots; Steve Manning - Director of Publicity, Sub Pop Records; Felice Ecker - Founder & Co-Owner, Girlie Action Media

Last night we got shut out of Bowery Ballroom, only to then get kidnapped by the myspace.com booze bus.

Here are shitty photos I took of Ted Leo and Paybacks...

I'm not kidding about myspace. We went on the bus for a free beer and it unexpectedly started driving to the meatpacking district.

Some of you probably want a Britney Federline update...

Brit Brit and K-Fed have been MIA for a few days because they're about to throw a week-long $5.4 million wedding party in Hawaii (they booked the entire Four Seasons in Hualelai). Will the couple will rap their vows and throw milkshakes at the guests? Stay tuned!

Sounds like I made a good move to hop over to brooklyn for Polyvinyl then.

Bishop Allen & Co. played a pretty solid set.

And I was home by 2 AM.

I'm so torn between my hatred for Pitchfork and my man-crush on Scott Plagenhoef. Why God, why?!

who can bother reading the tripe that is Pitchforkmedia? People need to get a clue. MP3 blogs, like Stereogum, are much more enjoyable and less saturated with cynical snide remarks.

Boooo to all that! I still read RS just because I have been hooked on the in depth articles and pics since the late 80s...there's just something about print that i just love, more archival than web sites. Check out Arthur. Very cool too. free in select locations, like tower records and such...

But I do love this site! YEAH!!!!!

I totally think P.F. is the new R.S. Both offer facile punchlines instead of thoughtful music criticism.

pitchfork's got nothing on the blogs -- the good ones anyway. someone needs to arrange a sitdown with all the families so that we can work out the new world order.

also: did anybody go to that 'new ideas in indie' panel? i thought i was gonna swallow my tongue. misery. darkness. etc.

Hi, great blog, if you ever need a UK gig arm let me know, more than willing as I attend 3-4 a week anyway, and maybe i need the kick up the butt, to put some of these in media form to remember and share with others. keep up the good work!

I went to the "New Ideas in Indie Rock" thing a little while after my panel was done - yeah, it was pretty dire. That Tobi woman was kinda horrifying.

I kinda have a new respect for P-fork after having met Scott, Ryan, and a bunch of their writers. Scott P is particular is a great guy and is working hard to make Pitchfork a better publication. Much respect is due.

I guess I'm a little late to this discussion. I was for an alternative to pitchfork, so I googled for "pitchfork sucks" ;) You can't trust a group of people like that.
Some of them like melody, and some of them like lyrics or the general sound. Most people I've met fall into one of the three categories. Need a site that accounts for it.
