Jack White Does Have A Sense Of Humor

Brooklyn Vegan has the scoop from an attendee of the Raconteurs video shoot in Greenpoint yesterday:

It was an amazing afternoon, and the band was super cool to everyone there, talking to everyone in between takes. Jack showed us his customized guitar which is made of Copper, and was letting us hold it and comparing the weight to Brendan's wooden guitar. They also talked about the VMAs, and mentioned the bombed joke of Jack Black and Jack White forming a band, which I found interesting. Apparently they talked about it before hand and White's non-response to Black's suggestion of forming the band was supposed to be the punchline, but White commented that, but when he watched it on TV later on, he thought he just looked pissed off and was an asshole, and everyone started asking him why he hated Jack Black, his mom even asked him why he hated Black. He said he just cant shake the misconception that he doesn't have a sense of humor. White ended everything by walking around to everyone in the crowd and shaking every one's hand and thanked them for coming.
Of course he has a sense of humor! He's gonna be on the Simpsons! He does hate Tenacious D, though.

when did he say he hated tenacious d?

and the simpsons hasn't had a sense of humor since the late '90s.

If Jack hates The D, then he doesn't have a sense of humor.

Oh wow.. the above pair of comments are either from 11 year olds or folks who are even more humorless than Jack.

Or maybe they were just disappointed in the lack of K-Fed or L. Lo 'news' to whine over.

LOL

Just one more factor in those wonderfully bomb-astic VMAs.

Another video shoot? Are they making videos for every mediocre song on that album? They should just put out a live DVD, it'd be way better.

I don't know why, but the notion that his own mom asked him why he was making such a puss cracks me up. I think he's kind of dug himself into a "humorless" hole kind of like Al Gore had that "stiff" rep until he did SNL. I guess the lesson is don't trust a 5 second reaction shot during the crappy VMAs to send up your image. Hopefully The Simpsons will break open the image a bit. (No, The Simpsons haven't been good, but the concept of the first two eps sound promisingly fun.)

If White's going to just let a joke like that die in the water, of course people are going to accuse him of having no sense of humor. He could have yelled at Jack Black. He could have agreed to be in the band. But he just stood there and looked too cool for the joke. And now he's lost a point in my book.

Whoops, I read the post wrong. If his non-response was SUPPOSED to be the punchline, then it wasn't White's fault at all. Nix my last comment.

He was certainly amusing in Coffee & Cigarettes. I think. I was kind of delirious from the flu that weekend, but my roommate and I still talk about how the White Stripes scene was one of the best.

He might have a sense of humor but I've never seen him be terribly funny. This was a'ight.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GS_oSwv5B9A ("bit" on Conan, go 3:30 in)

he's Jack White, it doesnt matter if he has a sense of humor or not, he's Jack White. And he doesn't hate Tenacious D, that was a joke. Dur.

I got that he was kidding. Ditto to what Beans McGee and Dan said.

who gives a crap if Jack White has a sense of humour or not? There is no need for anyone to poodle jump through public approval hoops of somebody's perception of what a proper humour response is. Check out Coffee & Cigarettes to see if their sense of humour is good enough- they did a great skit!! Annoying to hear that "points were lost" for not having a quick, cool or clever snappy comeback for Jack Black. Do you think J. B. cared? Probably not. Jack White is not going to cry about the loss of points in buddy's scorebook-what a thing to say- how many points did J.W. start with? Point keepers perhaps need other hobbies to take up some of that judgemental energy. Who knows what he was thinking- maybe about his next meal or not even listening at that moment. Whatever... we dig the music, no need to starfuck.
