thumbnail icon: Jay Reatard Covers "Gamma Ray" On New Beck Single

Cool American garage punk Jay Reatard put his lo-fi imprint on ghostly Modern Guilt tune "Gamma Ray" for the UK version of the single. It's out today. You can hear a short preview here. In related Reatard news, the pre-order for the 5th installment of Matador's Jay Reatard 7" singles series starts tomorrow. In order to get on the list, you need to send an email to a top-secret address that'll be revealed tomorrow at 3pm EST. The instructions are baroque. Read them closely at Matablog.

Jay Reatard rules. It's nice to see someone with a long history of great bands finally getting some mass recognition, even if it's just due to hype.

Why did it take people so long to find out about Jay Reatard's projects? He was already widely known to underground music fans years ago. I'm not trying to be judgmental, but it's almost like mainstream people need to be told whether or not something is ok to like before they can really get into it.

Or they need to find out about it. Some of us "mainstream people" don't have as many avenues to find new music as others. Obviously the internet's changed things, but up until a few years ago, if a person didn't live in or near a major city, I'm willing to bet he or she wouldn't know Jay Reatard. Less record stores, less venues, less scene = less exposure and less knowledge of the underground.

Have you actually heard Lost Sounds? They were anything but a retread.

No offense, but you're way off the mark. Jay Reatard has been an underground garage punk legend since the 90s.

OK, am I reatarded or is it really hard to get the clip to play on the linked site?

Can someone offer a tip or two? I clicked on the Vorhoeren link and all I got was a Vorhoeren popup that gave me ZERO SOUNDS.

Dear Jay,

Please do not accept any gifts from Beck. I know that book with the volcano on the cover looks really cool and everything, but it's a trap!

Also, don't let him give you a free audit. He is not offering to do your taxes for you. And if he comes at you with an E-meter, please run away.

Thank you!

Love,
Laurie
