Jenny We Got Your Number
Jenny Lewis' solo album Rabbit Fur Coat sprung a leak this holiday weekend and thankfully I'm sensing a thumbs up to her indie rock brigade's Traveling Wilburys cover. Pimps Of Gore has an MP3 of the original "Handle With Care" (Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, and Tom Petty). At Gorilla Vs Bear you can hear Jenny's version, featuring rising stars the Watson Twins plus Ben Gibbard, Conor Oberst, and M. Ward.
UPDATE:
I'm gonna throw it up on the stereoserver so you can download easily and argue more. Surprising how the kids these days revere the original.

Am I the only loser up late surfing blogs? I like the songs I've heard but in this instance the whole is better than the sum of it's parts. This will hold me over for awhile but I still need new Rilo Kiley...soon...now!

Yes, you are a loser. Zing.
I liked the Jenny Lewis version well enough, but I have to say that M. Ward sounds totally out of place. Oberst sounds fine, but hes only there noticable for what, one verse? Still, Orbison trumps them all. So yeah.
Also, the whole album is kinda 'meh'. I bet the new Elected album is gonna be fucking great, though.

Craig, you're not the only loser up this late. :P
I heard this album and I like it. People kept saying it was "too country" but I'm glad I gave it a chance. It's all I've been able to listen to lately. :)

pretty good so far. kinda like neko case-lite (not that that's a bad thing.)

i'm likin' the record. i prefer rilo kiley's stuff just 'cause it's a bit more ragged. jenny's solo record will appeal to those who like r.k.'s more structured, and to some extent more delicate, songs (though the lyrics on this one - at least on my inital listenings - strike me as anything but delicate). good stuff - thanks for the notice.

I think this is wild. So many people my age really dug the Willberries in first grade and such. I really didnt think it would have any sort of staying power... but recently I've run into two people who listen to the first record OFTEN... and when they played me that song where dylan sings "she like to stick huh tung right down my throooooooooooooat" it brought me back. I mean yeah its got that slick 80s production, but the music has a good jolly jolly feel to it. I thought GRACELAND would have more staying power, though I know lots of people listen to that one, I have a hard time with it these days. Cool idea.

I don't normally take time to trash something, but...
HORRIBLE. They should punch whoever is playing drums on Lewis' "Handle with Care". I just don't get it - she sped up the song, had somebody flagellate on drums - it basically sounds like the original but significantly worse. And the indie rock all-stars just sounds like a gimmick rather than something worth listening to.
Ugh. With the Wilburies version on repeat, maybe I can purge hers from memory.

I expected more from JR's solo effort, "Neko Case-lite" sums it up pretty well.

We've got two more new Jenny Lewis songs, "Rise Up With Fists" and "You Are What You Love", posted over at the 'Stamps...

Stereogum, your Pimp Hand is fucking STRONG.
My bandwidth for the month is kaput, so if anyone is heading over to my site for the song, it won't be back up again until December 1st (unless I can find another solution).
Thanks for the link, though. I hope some of your readers continue to check my site out next month.

Not horrible, but nowhere close to the original. Ben Gibbard's fey vocals are not suited to this track, but M. Ward sounds fantastic. And what is up with the cowbell in the chorus!?!?!? It's distracting.

I really like the Wilburys version, and I don't hate this one. I'm pretty surprised by how much I like what Conor did with his part --- the way he says "clean-ed up myself, I guess".
