John Roderick Performs "Pushover" @ Beacon Theater, NY 8/23/06

Another vid from last night's Revenge Of The Bookeaters. Johnny charmed with amusing anecdotes (he cut his own hair earlier in the day!) and stripped down three lovely Long Winters songs. Here's one. Enjoy:

"he was so great, and i was amazed that his voice sounds even better live. "

I second that comment. I was worried he wouldn't hit the high notes he does on the albums, but they sounded EVEN BETTER.

He was by far the most entertaining of the night, very funny AND a great performance. I hope he got himself a bunch of new fans last night.

I liked his work in the Barenaked Ladies / freshman quad much better.

Long Winters? More like the Yawn Winters. Serioulsy why is everyone stocking up on knee pads and getting in line to blow this guy? He makes Christopher Cross seem edgy.

I will say this. The dude has the single, sexually frustrated, nerdy, 30-something-female that-listens-to-KEXP nailed down.

tick tock, tick tock.

I love this band. However, he's definitely over-singing this song like he's in a Broadway play or something.

john roderick stole the show in my opinion. does he have any recorded acoustic stuff, or is it all with his backing band?

Three cheers for overeducated, urban white people who think they're hip paying a lot of money to watch "performances" from overeducated white people who used to be hip.

This show was the zenith of the "Indie Yuppie" phenomenon.

Strange how divided the comments are here. My partner and I also think he sounded amazing (and I think he looked great, I had no idea how damned attractive he is). Funny and self deprecating, too. Short set, but one of the better ones of the night. Broadway? I don't have sound on this video, but it wasn't like that at all live, the sound at the Beacon was great. Indie Yuppie? Yeah, kind of. But did you look up the cause? It was a benefit, and 826 is pretty cool one. I was surprised at how well the whole thing was put together.
