New U2 - "Get On Your Boots (Justice Remix)" (Stereogum Premiere)

thumbnail icon: New U2 - "Get On Your Boots (Justice Remix)" (Stereogum Premiere)

It's true. This happened. At the express request of U2, so you know, points to the lads for knowing the right remix crew to reform No Line's lead single. From the open it's clear Justice are wiping the slate clean and remaking it in their image. Or maybe in the image of Nine Inch Nails: For thirty seconds you'll swear The Edge's riff is about to fuck you like an animal. But true to its source's spirit, the Joosteece remix juggles multiple personalities. The menacing, distorted synth stomp flips to some toe-tapping piano and punchy keyboard bass, and suddenly Bono's miles-a-minute non-sequiturs start to make sense. (Or, seem sensible.) By the hook, the stomp's got swing. Reminds me of that old joke: How many French men does it take to make you wanna dance to U2? † many.

No word on where and when this remix will be available to purchase, so you may as well keep pressing play until you're sick of it.

No Line On The Horizon is out now on Interscope. You can check the 360° Tour dates at u2.com.

I think U2 has lost its originality. The song as a whole doesn't sound like any other songs but it sounds like they have gotten ideas from various songs by other artists and have pieced them together. Their last album was kind of similar in lack of originality.

everybody puts such weight on any new U2 music and every fart that comes out of Bonzo's mouth. It's just a fun song that's a little schizo. Whatever. It's not their best or their worst. This mix has its purpose but this type of music, that Justice makes is all fun. soulless but fun. lets get it in perspective. Most of the music that U2 makes has soul. It will be around for a long long time. I know, it's not popular to defend giants, but this one deserves defending, if we're really talking about the music.

It's strange, U2's new album just seems to have slipped into a deep chasm never to return again. All you ever saw/heard in 2005 was 'Vertigo' or some other single from that terrible album - but now, it's sort of like - who's U2 again?

Bono must be freaking out - "Obscurity!! nooo!, quick Larry, grab your disco pants, we're gonna do something no other rock band has ever done! Yes, that's right, we're going to combine dance and rock AT THE SAME TIME!!"

Larry - "We did that back in 97' Bono"

Bono - "oh, how did that work out for us?"

Larry - "Not so good Bono, not so good"

Bono - " ok, well, get me some eyeliner, it's time to show them Bono as the world has never seen him!!"

Larry - "oh? and how's that Bono"

Bono - "Bono.....WITH EYELINER!!!"

Edge - "God, the mans a genius"

As a long time fan of the Lads I'm not a big fan of Get on your Boots but this version sucks! The first 30 secs are good but once the piano starts it degenerates into some tired Ibiza garbage track. The vocals dont mix well with the music...well hell those lyrics dont mix well with anything...and what are those disco horns? Maybe I should get my roller-skates out.

U2 seems to be following the same principle on the last several albums...put out a hit friendly bubble gum single and then surround it with some quality work on the album. But the singles are getting worse...at least to the average American ear...but hell NLOTH opened at #1 in 31 countries... So what do I know....well I do know that the French aren't exactly known for their musical prowess and this song just reinforces that.

With a song this bad the potential for a great remix is huge. It's somewhat better than the original but at the same time a bit disappointing.

NIN meets Coldplay! This remix blows big time! This is a ROCK song, not a foreplay tune. Where's the rock?
I hate it when DJ's like this take just the vocals and add all their own music. What happened to taking the best parts of a song and enhancing those parts. This is a step up from the Crookers remix. But if you like lame remixes, look for Pete Tong's remix of U2's Magnificent. He also destroyed the song.

There's nothing wrong with the original track, people criticised The Fly and that went on to become a classic U2 track.
It's just a fashion statement, no one will remember the re-mixers in 2-3 years time.
Wanky wanky dancy dancy.

Love the Figure 8 shot - XO. Nice to see that Elliott is not forgotten.

Cool. I like that remix of that achtung baby single, but then again, we were very stoned at that time.
Know someone that song with Bono and Eddie Vedder? Perhaps they can make a remix of that song too.

This rmx is a joke....keep laughin' and listen to Kravitz's.....20 times worth.
Justice are just doin' like a bunch of french guys did...thinking that you stay on top without doin' anything...here is the proof....that's why "french touch" was a born dead movement....
Remember..."don't believe the hype"...

Does anyone else see U2's music gravitating towards Coldolay's style? I would have thought it would be the other way around.
