Kaiser Chief Saved By "Trademark Jump"

You may have read that KC frontman Ricky Wilson was hit by a car while crossing the street in Leeds the other day (he'll be okay). According to the band's website, it was Ricky's patented stage jump that saved his life.

"He's the luckiest man alive, because he is still alive, it sounds daft, but a 'Ricky trademark jump' has probably saved his life. The jump meant he was flipped over the top of the car, hitting the windscreen, rather than getting trapped under it."
Not to make light of a hit-and-run, but ... well, they just did.

Or did they? Check out Ricky in action (pic via NME):

Can't imagine what Pete Doherty would do in the same situation. Actually, yes I can. It's not pretty.

Pete and a car crash? The poor guy hasn't been doing too well inside cars given the last few months and new Jaguar purchases... I think he might be sorting himself out though because the headlines have died down a bit...

If squirting a syringe of his own blood at a camera lens during an interview is sorting himself out...then yeah, he's laying low and soul searching.

Pete would probably try to inject the car into his arm...

I realise now that was a horrible attempt at wit.

Dare I say that stage jump appears almost Lee Rothian?

Pete would have taken the hit like a man and walked away to a crowd of cheering brits. That guy will not die.

He probably would have jumped out the way, squirted blood on the windows and call it art.

My friend works at a PR firm that's throwing away over 100 Kaiser Chief's best of 2 disc sets. Then another 100 that are just plain promo copies in plastic sleeves. He's looking to unload them on a flea market/music show peddler. I hope this news helps bolster interest.

The fact that he lived because of his trademark jump is actually kind of funny, hehe. But thank goodness he is okay now :-) Getting hit by a car is not joke kids!

Not to be pedantic, but most times when people are hit by cars, they go over the top rather than underneath, unless they're getting hit by an SUV.

Haha I knew he was in a car crash but I didn't that the jump was the reason he was so lucky. Good on him

Pete would've done one of his weird "drunken barks" (they're all over his records):

"bwaAA Daaraargh daaa!", headbutted the windshield, thus killing the car and then injected himself with some transmission fluid.

G.

Even though Kaiser Chiefs get so much shit than Taylor "Soul Patrol" Hicks on such Indie elitists sites (you know, Pitchfork Media, Stereogum, Absolutepunk.net), I'm really glad Ricky Wilson is safe.

Having been hit by a car in a similar fashion, I highly recommend going over rather than under. (I was then thrown under another car, but never went under the car that hit me.) I was also, all things considered, ok after it. I let it hit me from behind and I tried to "sit" on the hood of the car, so that is my official recommendation. Just go with it.
