Kanye Live At Lollapalooza

Chicago's dropout-cum-Jesus Kanye West offered a fitting close to our second night in Grant Park. Lupe, Twista and GLC made cameos during the rapper's set, but first we got an audience singalong to "We Don't Care":

I'm happy to see you had a good time at Kanye's show. I saw him perform at my college last spring; worst concert I ever attended.

Kanye's show at House of Blues in 2004 was the last good show I saw...one of the few truly great Hip Hop shows I've seen (other one was PE in 1990)

Heard he was awesome last night. Him and S-K are the only reasons I regret missing Lollapalooza.

Is working the crowd waving your hands from side to side? That sounds fun. [Insert Steve Harvey joke from the Kings of Comedy]

Gnarls Barkley outperformed Kanye's weak set on Saturday.

I like Kanye, but I never liked him live. He always exerts more than too much energy. I think Common is the kind of MC who can hold a crowd without trying too hard.

There really isn't anyone doing hip hop shows these days who can hold a candle to Sage Francis. Seriously. When that man's on stage, you are physically incapable of paying attention to anything else.

Too bad Sage has no good music to do up there. But he's so commanding!

@RZA. For the record. Killa Hills 10304/Hell's Wind Staff is my ringtone.

I do listen to Kanye's music. I own his CDs. I've seen Wu-Tang clan twice, Tha Dogg Pound, The Hieroglyphics Tour (with DJ Shadow), Ice Cube, etc. and I know what a good rap concert should be, but this Kanye clip looks terrible. Twista is nice though, I'd go see him live before I buy tickets to a Kanye show. Okay, move along to hiphopspot.com

Why would I ever pay to see this loser and his sad ass nursery raps. Most of his stuff blows but he thinks it is all fucking genius. The 12 year old wiggers eat this shit up.

I was a little torn between Kanye and Manu Chao. I got about a half hour of Chao and then wandered over to Kanye's stage. This was when he was firing his general manager and complaining that the sound had embarrassed him in front of his city. I was really hoping that he'd pull out a crazy over-the-top show for Lollapalooza, and while it was cool to see Twista, Kanye didn't really do anything all that special. Hell, he had his string section and backup singer cover "Crazy", but he had no part in it. It was weird. I should have stuck with Manu.
