Kanye Remixes, Annotates Fall Out Boy

There are remixes that are faithful to a fault, and then there are Kanye remixes. In addition to fleshing out the beat and adding some choir vocals to FOB's "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race," Kanye critiques the track, spitting a verse that questions just how the arms race helped them "race straight to the top." Hey, Fall Out Boy makes a good punching bag! We'll make a note of it. Hear Kanye's take on the track at Buzznet. (Thanks, Laura!)

Kanye's lyrics after the jump.

Now I don’t know what the hell this song is talking ’bout
Do you?
She said ‘yeah, I’ve been spending all day tryin’ to figure that out,
You too?’
The arm race made ‘em raise their arm and race straight to the top
Who knew?
Right now they got the number one spot do you want that?
Me too

One thing I gotta call out boy
Take a look at Fall Out Boy
‘Cause they ain’t black when they get money they don’t ball out, boy
They just buy tight jeans
‘Til their nuts hang all out boy
They figure they dress tight so we gonna dress tighter
He dress white so we ‘gun dress whiter
So in spite of anything you might of seen or heard–this scene occurred
Word.

I already heard this earlier today. Fall Out Boy is my favorite band and I'm all for trying to new things and being diffrent, but if your going to try new things at least make sure they don't really suck? Plus through the whole thing all Kanye does is hate on them and say that he doesn't understand the song, if he doesn't understand what he's a part of then why the fuck is he doing the remix to begin with, just to make a dollar? and to make a fool of himself and Fall Out Boy? Not to mention his lyrics are absolutely horrible. I don't know what the guys were thinking.... popularity points? Either way it's really stupid.

Is this an official remix by him or is it really just some kid's bootleg remix? It sounds absolutely terrible, and that verse, it'll surely make people appreciate the writing of FOB...

Seriously though, is this a Kanye remix?

If it is, it's another thing I'll put on my list of stuff I hate by/about him.

Oh, you poor indie listeners. Are you too good to ever try anything other than what is already categorically different?

Yeah, Kanye blows. We know it. But seriously, must you all spew cliche hates of Fall Out Boy because they're just too mainstream? Or because they have success?

It seems that whenever FOB is mentioned, all anyone over does is say, 'Oh, I hate them.'

Aren't the indies usually more educated? At least use some more loquacious disses.

Merciful Jesus Christ, who died for our sins so that we may live to sound like retarded, cliche-spewing automatons learning our English grammar from music videos and those who pass off pop culture rhetoric and lunkheadedness as a totem of individuality, ALTHOUGH EVERY INDIVIDUAL SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE THE LAST, why must there be so much angst over something so trivial as a here-today, gone-tomorrow fad band and a rapper who's massive, bloated ego is going to either get him a one-way to the looney bin, or shot, or shot in the looney bin?!

Oh, why won't somebody think of the children?!!

The best part of it was on the comments where all the FOB fans were asking for more and saying how cool Kanye was for doing this. They must not have listened to the words cause he ripped them apart. haha this just proves FOB fans dont even listen to the music, they just like tight jeans and eye makeup

Saying "cliche-spewing" is cliche (but at least DwD learnt his grammar from somewhere other than pop videos; this, friends, is what English majors do in the middle of the night). FOB sounds like Savage Garden, but few of the teens writing in favor of them will know who they were (because they only lasted a year in the mainstream and were last heard from doing a Nickelodeon award show). What is with bands who make outspoken claims (like outfitting listeners with weapons in the form of words) and then only reiterating the claim instead of fulfilling it. Does FOB take a politico-social stance on anything? Do they empower their listeners? Do they just keep on repeating the catchy, vacuous lyrics that will sell records to the...so hard to say this without resorting to cliche. Um. I suppose I mean you. So they can sell records to you. Wow. I just wasted both my time and yours. Have a gay old time stretching this blog ad absurdum.

Im not a fall out boy diehard but you cant say they suck because you hate emo kids. Yes emo kids are retarded, just a bunch of pussies who have everything and appreciate nothing, but Wentz is the only bitch in that band however they have talent in that Stump can play some pretty complex syncapated(sp) rythms and decently sing simontaneosly, ill give it to them there. The lyric is " oh so intricate" not bjghadihde. And to all of you who hate them or any band and spend every waking minute bagging and critisizing, if you dont like it dont listen to it, you people spend more time whinning about music than you do listening to it, any of it. If you hate FOB so much, then get your friends together and make a band. Beat them in the charts. Sell more records. What, you won't? Okay then, shut up. I don't understand why no one can be happy for someone else's success. Are you really that conceited? Or at least, bemoan to yourself. It gets old after a while.

I'm a big fan of Fall Out Boy, and I didn't really like this remix very much.. I just didn't like it as a whole. Kanyes lyrics were bad. I think it was a waste of time, and the original is a lot better. Those of you who are saying things about the band like 'their music is emo crap' and things of the sort, it's your opinion, and not everyone agrees with it. Don't go around saying 'Nobody likes Fall Out Boy'.. Seriously. If nobody liked them they wouldnt've made it this far. You probably haven't even taken the time to listen to some of their previous songs. You've just made an opinion based on what's gone mainstream. I believe they are a great band, along with many other people.

should be: They figure 'Ye dress tight so we gon' dress tighter

'Ye, like Kan-Ye.

which adds a whole new element of weird to Kanye's lyrics in that song. Is he suggesting that Fall Out Boy is motivated by their envy of Kanye West?

This is retarded. For anyone who is wondering "what the hell this song is talkin bout"
the whole idea is that they are Pete Wentz's lyrics and they pertain to his life. most of the fans DO know what they're about. stop "hating on" FOB. nobody cared before they went mainstream. go "hate on" panic! or gym class instead. "Arms Race" is not a literal reference dipshits. and if anybody knew any of the old songs you would know what "fitting you with weapons in the form of words" was about too. so stfu. if you're going to post something ignorant, don't bother to post at all. the diehards understand it, even if you are too dense to figure it out.
so while you all are all saying "what the fuck does this song mean".. the rest of us are shaking our heads at your stupidity.
thank you and goodnight.

This is great, not to be an elitist...but comone Fall out boy has no musical talent at all. Any one can throw simple guitar parts, drum beats, and horrible singing into a track and get to the top of the charts now a days. What makes this really sad is it that the reason this happens is no one has a true since of musical talent and, will play this loud and proud. Kudo's to Kanye for making this even more apparent to the ever more amazing American
public. You all suck, Fall out boy sucks, and if you listen to them I would love to see you all cry once they all perish into the non existant drew of musical suck.

If you hate Fall Out Boy and/or Kanye West, that's cool. You are entitled to your opinion. If you like/love Fall Out Boy, I would have to agree with you, but I truly still wouldn't care what you thought. I don't know any of you on here so of course I wouldn't. I'd be an idiot if I honestly cared about what

He is just pointing out that the song is pretty much just a pseudo-political load of crap. It's FOB trying to sound like they give a toss about what is going on in the world when really all they care about is "taking off their [ludicrously expensive] clothes and having fun"

He is saying, if you have a point, make it, don't fake it. I think it should be encouraged for artists to critique each others music and say, "Are you expressing something worthwhile here Or just cashing in on your past success and catchiness?"

I liked this version of the song as well. Kanye says what everyone (who isn't a diehard fan of Fall Out Boy) thinks. Their lyrics are overly poetic, to the point of risking coherence. Kanye isn't insulting the band, it's tongue-in-cheek, ironic humour. By taking the effort (and time and money, etc) to remix the song, he's obviously expressing some form of respect for the song and band. Plus, the beat in the song is pretty sweet. And Fall Out Boy themselves expressed their like for the song (posting it on their website and myspace).

Its like this genration has forgotten that good music consists of good lyrics too! It's like he's hatting on kids in the indie scene for buying tight jeans or what ever, but look at the "players" in his scene spending $2000 on chains or spinners and other stupid shit like making it rain! FOB sucks and always have. Kanye for that matter had good skill at the beginning of his carreer but became too full of sh*t.
