Kanye's 808's & Heartbreak Out 12/16

thumbnail icon: Kanye's 808's & Heartbreak Out 12/16

When Kanye premiered the Auto-Tuned, un-rapped, week-and-a-half-old "Love Lockdown" at the Disney VMAs on Sunday, we still weren't convinced a new album would be out this year. Now retail sites like Amazon and Target are listing LP4 under the title 808's & Heartbreak with a release date of 12/16, and that's enough proof for us. It is a cool title, sure, but it has nothing to do with school: will Dropout Bear even appear on the cover? You guys should probably start Photoshopping some prototypes. Best one gets a pair of shutter shades.

Great title for the album, looking forward to it. I really liked Love Lockdown on the VMAs, was the only thing remotely interesting about the whole night, apart from Russell Brand (who I thought did a good job) and Katy Perry's puppies.

Seriously, the delay of this single is really getting annoying. I'm sure there's a legit reason and the initial report was probably slightly exaggerated but can't someone try to get an explanation?

Although I've gotta admit, it's pretty impressive that it hasn't leaked yet.

Very nice.

It took me a second to relate 808 to the Roland rhythm machine.. for some reason my first thought was Hawaii..

Then I continued mind-rambling and decided that Hawaii and Heartbreak didn't quite combine so well.. Hawaii's better with Honeymoon..

..then a few seconds after realizing that I typed out my entire thought process I clicked submit.

i really hope this album is drenched in autotune

i still have faith in it being dope but you have to admit, theres a chance it could sound like shittier parts of carter 3, a la "get money," "lollipop," etc...

i loved kanye but then bonnaroo happened. and the whole vma performance was kind of sad it felt like it was leading up to something but that was it he just kept repeating himself over and over and over and over and over again. kanye has lost it and we slowly have been witnessing it. i for one am done with mr. west

im done with kanye too he probably realized he's not that great a rapper so he started doing this t-pain shit which sucks even more. and the single not coming out the very next day is hurting him man. people are gonna forget about that shit. the song wasn't that good so he needed the momentum.

A release date of 12/16 sounds like the album is going to be pushed off until 2009 so the label can have a good first quarter profit. If it was truly meant to come out this year, it would drop the week of Thanksgiving, like most other blockbuster major label releases do.

kind of a clunky title to me. much like his rhyming..

is this going to be YET AGAIN another New Jack Swing revival with the 808s? how refreshing...

There's a whole lot of whining going on here. The man is one of the best hip hop and pop producers alive. "Graduation" was by far my record of the year. His contributions to the "Lil Wayne" album were great. And his rapping, though at times inconsistent, can be really clever and hooky. So maybe he's a diva...just like everybody else in the music industry. I have high hopes for the new record. And at the very least I'll wait to judge it until it's out.

if he pulls an andre 3000 with this one i'm gonna be really pissed. i just wanna hear kanye RAP. not this bullshit autotune half-assed R&B stuff.

i wouldn't be at all shocked if this was a bit more of an introsprective affair with the lead single being what it is and now the album title. remember since graduation kanye lost his mother (who we all know was a pretty big part of his life), as well as breaking things off with a fiancee. is this gonna be kanye's emo album?

especially with this album art for the single floating around:

If Jon Brion is involved, consider me on board. If not, consider me bored (see what I did there?)

"It is a cool title, sure, but it has nothing to do with school: will Dropout Bear even appear on the cover?"

Well 'gum, consider that the last album was titled GRADUATION, he's moved on from a "school" theme and into a "real world" theme, minus all the MTV / reality show debachery, but since sex and "the adventures of frat boys and their bimbo roomates" sells, I guess not.

On the Amazon link, it has its being release on PENDULUM Records. Is that his own record label? He's not down with da R-O-C anymore?

kanye's singing is soooooo bad, atleast andre has a sort of kitsch prince/ parliament funkadelic thing going on. I predict a cd with dope beats and him just lazily sing rapping over all of them, acting like its some clever side project. whats hip hop coming to when kanye and lil wayne, the most famous emcees at the moment, dont even want to rap?

FIRST OFF: This album will be entirley auto tune, which i have actually warmed to more and morea s he built us up with other auto tune tracks, Lollipop Remix, Go HArd, Swagga Like Us

SECOND: The track has been lieaked on his website and is on zshare right now, i dont know if its the final mix cos some bits sound off to me but its still hot and the drums are dope

THIRD: It's a Concept album and has nothing to do with his 'School' Series although most rappers usually do the 5 Album career thing something he has mentioned in the past, so the last three are his rap albumns, this is his experimental album and his last album will be the next one 'Retirement' which may or may not feature auto tune singin from kanyeezy depednin on how well 808 'sdoes.

i'm not sure whether i love or hate the demo-ish quality of the track. i wish the vocals were stronger and more prominent on the chorus. i liked the live version better.

i don't know, i kinda got used to the two-year kanye album cycle and took some comfort in the fact that he was taking his sweet time creating another blockbuster album. this one seems quick and unexpected. not to mention, how the hell did he find the time to put something together while touring incessantly, producing blueprint III and others, etc.?

also, i thought the fourth album was supposed to be called "good ass job," completing the whole school theme. He put all the album titles out there years ago and this is the first time he's strayed.

I agree with you.. There's something fishy about this whole thing. The single is ok but doesn't live up to the cool bass line or the more impressive live performance. There's a nagging doubt in my head that if this does come out by x-mas we're going to get a nicely packaged set of b-sides and stuff that's been on a shelf for a year or more. It will be like Ye's "Amnesiac!"

i dunno y but this thing just sounds kinda untrue to me, and i rly dont thing it can come out this year cuz i think he's going on tour for one month startin october 22. so thas like 2 months for an album) and he's doin lots of other stuff too. and i like love lockdown but to do a whole siingin album is kinda dumb to me, bt we jus hav to wait and see. i want to hear just cuz im curious bt im not excited about it like graduation, he might jus scrap it. n i think he would atleast put th title of th album n his blog b4 it went on amazon
