Karen O Makes Native Korean Rock

thubmnail icon: Karen O Makes Native Korean Rock

In a move that echoes Jim James's Asian country star Sec Walkin, Karen O has an Asian-themed project of her own, Native Korean Rock & The Fishnets. She explains the spare, lo-fi love songs at the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' blog:

Native Korean Rock is a side project of mine comprised of a body of love songs written over the last two years, to be performed with a motley crew of NYC natives. Expect high drama, high stakes in two intimate performances.

Does Native Korean Rock have anything to do with Yeah Yeah Yeahs? NO

Are these the leaked demos of years ago? NO

Take a listen. The "two intimate performances" she mentions are a pair of sets at Union Pool in Brooklyn this Monday, 7/21. You can find out about grabbing tickets and see the full flyer at the YYY's blog.

weird. i think they're lying. it sounds like anything else the yeah yeah yeah's have done. karen o needs to try to be innovative if she's doing a side project of her own.

Karen O's project really isn't that much like Jim James' whole country star thing because Karen O is actually Asian and she isn't taking on a new name/personality.

also, the photo is probably of Haenyo divers -- they're from the Korean island of Cheju.
